  • They want to take everything away that spreads happiness. They want to regulate and delegate. It's a power trip thing... sad... Great informative vid, tho.

  • Their... not there**

  • This doesen't surprise me at all.The American people have lost their connection with the government and if you don't change this you're in for one hell of a ride in the future. All the best...

  • I don't know how accurate all this is. I always like to hear both sides of the story. However, I do fear for the internet. Just look at what happened in Egypt. If a government or a corporation wanted to, they could cut us off.

Then there's the more subtle way, bit by bit wrenching control from us. This is much more of a threat here, and if history is anything to show... it'll happen. Not enough people will see we're losing the freedom on the net before it's too late, b/c they'll do it slowly

  • "They put their thumb on the scale of democracy".

    Good.

Democracy is just as much a form of tyranny as a dictatorship/oligarchy.

And I trust private enterprises with pretty much everything over any government.

I've never heard of viacom or microsoft rounding up people and throwing them in concentration camps like pretty much every government has done at some point.

  • @turdferguson9725

You're crazy. Absolutely crazy. Ever heard about sweatshops? They're pretty much concentration camps.

Corporations are no more safe than any other group of people with power. Democracy is not perfect, but companies do not have the people's best interests at mind. Their goal is profit. The individuals in the company may be fine, but they are bound by the corporation to make profit their only goal. Freedom of choice is not profitable. How can you trust that?

  • @Jimera0 No, workers may leave a sweatshop at any time they choose. Sweatshop managers also do not execute their employees at an industrial scale.

Democracy is not only not perfect, it isn't even a legitimate form of government. It is merely a transitional period between a republic, and an oligarchy. The will of the majority is just as much a tyranny as a dictator.

A corporation does not HAVE to make profit it's only goal. Governments, almost without fail make tyranny theirs.

  • @Jimera0 There's also this thing called the 10th amendment. It recognizes my right to a constitutionally limited govnment. And since there is no constitutional amendment granting the federal government power to regulate the internet, that power is reserved to the states, and to the people.

The feds could regulate sales and transactions on the internet, since that is covered under interstate commerce, but not content, especially content on a privately owned line.

  • I'm for peace...but when "push comes to shove"...I will push back. They may take our lives, but let them try to take our freedom. Even they have not got enough "goons and Bullets" to stop billions of outraged people. The simple reality is that these draconian "persons" are all dried up old prunes, clinging to their worthless lives.

    Invest in Rope.

  • How exactly are they going to limit our internet? Limited and specific websites?

  • @crisb8713 Connection>

-basic: All sites blocked accept your ISP website and the free Google Package. -Next one up: includes News websites and sports channels. -Next: Includes all the above and propaganda crap fro children. -Next: Includes porn access.

All packages for a seperate price. Just look at the evolution of television. We need a new system.

  • I totally agree with the ideals behind this vidieo but I can't help but thinking its like trying to stop a boulder from rolling halfway down the hill. 60% of today's net content may be user generated but just over 10 years ago the percentage was more like 90%. I remember trying to get people interested in this when the first of the small free internet providers started charging for their services (like another.com) in order to make profit not to maintain their service. This is just one example.

  • @sisterloki That's not the point. Look at what Google is doing. Google is buying awesome projects (like YouTube!) for growth and refining with the financial backup necessary. Most views (and thus revenue) on YouTube is for normal users' videos.

Making money on the Internet is NOT a bad thing. Limiting internet access to monopolize services for maximum profit is (think about what the internet would be if you were FORCED to upload videos to vimeo and not youtube because of your ISP's contracts..)

  • Shocking, They want more MONEY.

  • Greed.

  • Revolution is what we need.

    Fuck the system

  • Govenment is what will shut your free speech down not your service provider. It was Gov. that limited speech over the airwaves not the free market. Keep the Govenment off my Internet!

  • SAVE THE INTERNET, we cant let those power hungry politicians take our freedom its just the way it goes awsome minidocumentary, very interesting and intriguing.

  • relax, no one can undo the internet and rebuild it all over, it's much too late for that.

this is paranoia. Think about it.

  • fuck these succubus called corportions

  • I like when people think. But don't just think, act.

  • A very well produced video... at risk of sounding outre, I'd say that it's a beautiful example of postmodern propaganda (in the neutral, not negative, sense). If we have, as Kopale(x2) claims, enslaved ourselves, we will continue to do so time after time and no movement will change that.

  • Noone has power unless the society gives it away. Thats why the society can take the power away from everyone! Fuck the laws fuck the goverment fuck the money fuck every form of slavery! We enslaved ourselves its time to get our freedom back!

  • i remember life before computers....

  • I think the reason newspapers are in trouble is because cable tv costs so much that people watch the news they already payed for. And, we are getting so sick of the bull we hear on the news (political, financial) people would rather watch reality shows, or sports. Is big money after the internet? OF COURSE! Ignorance is strength.

  • FREE INTERNET. Okay, the internet is free to commerce and the regular Joe alike. centering the internet will just be another slow usurpation of our civil liberties which needs to be taken back.

  • If this shit goes down, I'm pretty sure one of the chans will severely fuck shit up. Hopefully, one not infested with newfaggotry.

  • That was exactly my thoughts. Remember what happened when at&t cancelled 4chan? imagine what would happen if they cancelled the internet...

  • the internet is dangerous for people who have power,

the internet is not governed and once you have connection everything is free for acces.

    fuck them

  • Are you gentlemen fans of G. Edward Griffin and do you watch videos of G. Edward Griffin here on youtube? Peace!

  • Nicely done. We created the Internet, and you fucked it up. >>

  • Could be wrong, but wasn't it mainly developed at CERN?

  • it is inevitable that they will try to do something

our batting record for keeping our freedoms says that they will probably succeed.

so, enjoy the internet while you can, and

remember what it was like, so you can tell your grandchildren what it was like in the old days.

  • Okay, all who are in favor of opposing the removal, send a friend request to myself and we can get this process STOPPED!

  • alright dude....you gave us your message..now ...WHAT THE FUCK DO WE DO!!!!!!!!?????....what do you want????a riot???come on!!!... even if we tell people ...what then.. and what about the rest of the worlds net????

  • I suggest we do what the anarchists would do. We take it back to run it on our own and we dont let anyone but ourselves control it. We've come way too far to go back to one way communication again.

  • Great message. Just really distracted by the music.

  • people should not pay for access to the internet and then pay for access sites like youtube, myspace, twitter, facebook and wikipedia all because they want control we're to big of a community to be taken lightly. its bad enough to control how much we download and then control the sites we visit and chose to download from (no im not talking about porn grow up) and parents have parental control learn how to use it for fuck sake

  • Do you really think that avid internet users would let this happen? There would be hacks every day.

  • conspiracy theorists are retards. c'mon guys, they can't even stop us from pirating movies and music. the money comes from MORE access, not less access. do you really think that the companies who are spending billions to compete with each other are going to all of a sudden start cooperating . understand this : if it wasn't for porn and stealing media, NO one would want an internet connection.

  • Well... even if this crap is implemented, you just have to choose the provider that offers youtube/wikipedia/wordpress/facebook/myspace et cetera and you'd be able to access millions of individuals' perspectives on the world and still have the chance to watch a baby panda sneeze and get rickrolled. Maybe less pr0n as well, who knows what the future holds.

  • lol the first internet users are the military for private but the developer bring it to public for other people to use it....what do they wanted to do?? bring it back to military?..only who created it can only use it?..

  • it is all obvious of the governments course of action. they believe that if the people have their say, the people become even more powerful. once the vast population gets too powerful, the central government becomes obsolete and because humans are so flawed, they never follow a lawful society based on only ideas and not laws, they would tear themselves apart.

in other words, the government is trying to protect you...from yourself...but they underestimate you don't they? I think so...

  • Great comment! My wishful thinking is that the only ius cogens of the people will be ius divinum.

  • oh well, let humans be humans...their constant feuding balances out the world anyway...yin yang and all that stuff ...

  • Btw, the first books were PRINTED in China (far before Gutenberg alias Gensfleisch) in 593 A.D., i.e. over 1400 years ago, WRITTEN and published much earlier, if you think of the Ancient Library of Alexandria, but publishing started much earlier, if one considers the writings on ancient buildings, stones and artifacts.

  • It was in Japan

  • Am really curious about. Send me a link or the title of the book to confirm such a statement. Thanks!

  • And now you have the Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (Introduced in Senate)

    Beginning: 1st April 2009

    Sponsor:

    Sen. John Rockefeller [D-WV]

    Cosponsors [as of 2009-04-18]

    Sen. Olympia Snowe [R-ME]

    Sen. Bill Nelson [D-FL]

    Sen. Evan Bayh [D-IN]

    Read it!

  • Ha ha, yea it's true though, even You Tube fiddles with ratings/numbers in their own favour, and restricts more now it's owned by Google. But as for free speech, there are decentralized networks which "they the government" have no control over. :)

  • This must have been edited by people who had something to do with making Four Eyed Monsters ;)

  • What songs were used in this video?

  • Nice... And then, and then... A bunch of people will invest in a Free Net ISP, and drive other ISPs out of business. Ok. How hard was that?

  • HMMMMM....

  • Calm down folks, there's always a way round things, controlling the internet and stopping free speech would result in us boiling over the sides and finding another route..

  • where's the ed whitacre's original speech video?

  • im so fucking pissed now

  • we have a internet bill of rights now, this video is old

  • I desire nothing more than peace, but if that peace is unattainable I stand for for nothing short of revolution! Prepare to make a difference America. We've had enough. Congress and the government all together needs to step aside and let our democracy back to the controls!

  • pfffffffffff :P democracy in america? When? where? how? buahahaha! kid, dont be silly. where did you see such thing in whole world? funny, especial in america.

  • Admittedly, democracy has yet to truly exist in America. In fact capitalism is almost the antithesis of a successful(stable) democratic society. But we will have out hay day soon enough friend.

  • Capitalism is actually the epitome of a free and democratic society. Find a definition of capitalism (e.g. Wikipedia)... it is nothing like what the U.S. is today.

  • The U.S. was constituted as a republic, not as a democracy which can lead into ochlocracy.

  • "...seems too good (COMMA) right?

    ThEIR first step, not "there"

    Excellent piece!

    THANXX!

  • This will also mean the end of small internet businesses. People will have to pay extra just to get to outside web sites, and that will cut down a lot of visits. Businesses will have to go through the phone company, and pay them, just to get their site on the list. Or they will have to resort to partnering with other big businesses like Amazon or Ebay. That's just wrong! God it's like the whole Wal-Mart thing all over again, but worse, because so much else is at stake.

  • great video :D Just another way for a huge corporation to gain more money and control over the people. They want to make the choices for us!? We're not stupid, we're educated adults, I think we know what we want! That's not even an excuse, we know what's happening here, why don't they just take the damn Bill of Rights and flush it down the toilet while they're at it >=(

  • The problem is people think the news media is some kind of enemy. That it's all controlled by corporations, nothing they say can be trusted. That's paranoid bullshit. I've been married to a newspaper journalist for 24yrs, and I know the integrity that well regarded newspapers have. The vet everything. You can count on it to be accurate. Opinions are on the editorial page.

Without competent journalists--all we'll have is a blogosphere of idiots. It's coming. My husband is now laid off from 20yrs.

  • marstokyo that is bullshit, so in other words all control should be in the hands of "journalists" controlled by corporations? Not to the people themselves? Well these "Idiots" are the PEOPLE, and they should be in control, not some demigods of communication.

  • I think... Anyone who thinks of the internet as the answer to Mcluhan's "Global village" most likely possesses cognitive deformities.

  • English subtitles would be useful

  • This is one of the most important issues of today. The internet as we know it is much more than mere computers linked together, it is the ultimate form of freedom of speech. This video elegantly depicts how this could be all undone, turning the internet into nothing more than a perverted version of cable. They cannot do this if you educate other of this issue.

  • It looks like the freedom of speech is at stake world wide!

I'm from the Netherlands and i think people need to speak up before they aren't allowed to speak up anymore. Cartoonists that have been arrested in the middle of the night, the Fitna issue, Theo van Gogh (r.i.p) .. etc etc

    Sh*t's bad man ...

  • the internet is to beautiful to be destroyed by ATT or virgin etc...

  • The powers will have to do something about the free flow of real news and truth information. They will be very crafty with introducing this control. The NWO is real and you better get educated and inform others.

  • I'm not as worried as some here for one simple reason. Killing the internet will be an economic disaster. Think about it. Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, Amazon and Ebay all have a huge stake in keeping the internet open, and they also have the bucks to gain influence. In all other forms of media, there was no corporate giant whose interest it served to keep that medium open. Only the telecoms have an interest in shutting down the internet, but they aren't the ones with the most cash or pull.

  • Aside from search engines, companies have nothing to fear. Ebay, Amazon and similar companies have nothing to fear if we lose capability of opening up individual sites AS LONG AS WE PATICIPATE IN THE NET THROUGH THEIR SITES. If we lose the power to make our own sites the majority of other sites can still remain open as long as they have enough money to pay off people that wish to close the internet (because that will definitely happen).

  • Search engines will be damaged, but at the same time they will remain capable of presenting corporate sites as results.

  • They aren't talking about shutting down the internet but having control over the input you get without being able to output what you think about whatever crap they show you.

Example: i wouldn't be able to tell you that you are retarded.

    -x-

  • Weres the peoples word man. no citizen has a word to the government. they make the choices! some FREEDOM! My user names the lastcommunist but i dont like communists! LOLLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL pwnd!

  • communisim!

  • The shadow of the beast is covering more and more territory of the human mind. Worse than physical slavery, is mental slavery. Since the battle is not just fought in the three dimensional realm but parallel with the spiritual realm. Eph. 6:10-20. Bless

  • Have you guys read George Orwell's 1984? Well, I don't think the real world is far from living under Big Brother's watch.

  • cutting the net will be one of the 1st things they do for the big picture (1984)

cut all ppls way of communicating so ppl cant fight back and cordinate there efforts.

Its coming ppl need to grow a pair

  • I want to keep the internet free and open for everyone to do what they want and provide what they want, and communicate as much as they want... All the ISPs do, is provide a connection, all other parts of the internet came from the people.

So if the ISPs screw it up, We should all start forming free wireless grids of connections across the world!

  • I like that idea. The people take the technology they have been given and create a large massive wireless network that connects them to each other. Suddenly the US looks like a giant LAN as everyone connects to each other and ISPs are no longer needed to get on the web :P.

  • one problem, this will turn out just like the iPhone...they will essentially say "Hey! We OWN the internet...and you cannot use it this way!" and then thier big lawers and paid off politicians will make it illegal to do so (don't ask how...I doubt the legal rights of AT&T to keep ppl from hacking iPhones)...then LAN will die... hold on to the free inernet, but really try to clean up our political system...clean the top,it will spread to the bottom

  • WIN!

  • @NikoKun I hope we can do that before it gets too late. We should employ IT experts to work for the democratization of Cyberspace. Let not the phone companies jeopardize our inherent right to the world wide web.

  • The corporation´s greed never ends.

  • This has already really happened. I remember 10 years ago when I could put up a website in a few hours, saying anything I wanted. Now it would be very difficult and would put me in legal jeopardy. Too many people these days think that their myspace is enough for their freedom of speech, but the authorities even collect information on people from their and use it in courts. "Thought crime"

  • well i read that wikipedia have problems with free speech because the goverment shut down pages that talk about issues they dont want people know....still you can find very important information in wikipedia, i just think that if thats true.....we're really fucked up xD

  • wow, this is an amazing video. ur damn good at making movies man

  • Every time i have to take a shit, im going to drop it off at the front step of every AT&T building. I DONT GIVE A FUCK.. These fucks got enough money as it is, and now theyre trying to make broke people even poorer.. Instead of shooting up schools, why arent these kids shooting up AT&T buildings

  • Why are most companies ignoring the fact that people will boycott their "internet". They will fuck it up!

  • No they wont. Just like we boycotted cable TV and newspapers? The masses will eat what you feed them. There is no hope.

  • Thats not the issue, who's currently controlling access. What the problem is is that the service providers are trying to regulate access to sites by bottlenecking anything that hasnt payed them the fees. Is that what you're trying to say Cable TV is doing in Milwaukee? Because if that's the case then we are worse off than I thought.

  • why does every internet clip have to be voiced by a kid with obvious ANS (Arrogant Nerd Syndrome) that sounds like hes 15 years old and 96 pounds. Also, There is a lesser of two evils situation going on here, Right now, at least in Milwaukee,Cable Tv has control of high speed and AT&T is trying to cut in on the high speed market but the cable companies are trying to block entry. AT&T would offer lower rates on higher speed internet. Which is better?

  • PAY ATTENTION. It's not just about the company. It's the fact that the internet is being controlled. The news is already controlled so most of the US has no fucking clue what's actually going on. The internet and pirate radio is the LAST place for freedom of speech. How can freedom exist in a country where "homeland" security can go harass a 15 year old girl for her anti bush picture and Guantanamo Prison still exists? No I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I'm just PAYING ATTENTION.

  • Hear hear!

  • yeah if they have so much control of the internet, why didn't they censor this video? makes me think some...

i do really appreciate this information though

  • also, since google provides ads for webmasters, im sure "people" made sites will be highly important. but thats wishful thinking. honestly, i'd just like to pay less for my cable connection and i'd like the internets to stay the way it is.

  • ifr any company takes over the internet, i hope its google. i heard somewhere their goal is to provide free conectivity everywhere in the USA and eventually to world.they already did it for san fransico. my guess is that they'll hit all the mayjor cities first

  • and rofl @ 06:23

  • i hope the american government lets them take control of the internet. maybe then you americans will revolt lol

  • this is the most informative video i have ever heard the world need to c this really to stop the phone companys

  • 264GL, when you complain that you're already being censored, you're kinda missing the point. You might be censored on someone else's forum site, but you can start your own--and it's _not_ expensive. You can get set up with a domain and hosting for less than $5/month (about $20 to get started). Add free, easy to use software and then you can say anything you want. But if Net Neutrality is lost, then no one will be able to find your site--and _that_ is the rub.

  • This video is an incredible video with THE most important purpose of any movement on the internet at the moment. Bravo! If this message doesn't get out, the internet really will cease to exist in any familiar form. Spread the word!

  • There is really a World Wide Web and there is a danger that US laws will shut down more and more as Intellectual Property rights and copyright regimes are US based becoming International Law sanctioned by US courts yet the USA does not want to subscribe to something as simple as the Bern Convention that would make large parts of Disney & Hollywood public domain. The United States is failing the world once again with claiming its own self proclaimed exceptionalism but making the world eat it.

  • this is only in the usa?

  • a good point. I suppose it is, but I mean most of the internet is based in the U.S, so it effects all of us, I guess.

  • everything is censored. I try to post my comments and sometimes they are not posted. Others can outright swear and say the most gross offensive things, but I was not allowed to voice my unhappiness with Heather Mills. My comments were not published. I'll be surprised if this one is "accepted". the new message says "if accepted" then I can have my comment published.

  • We need this to be in the hands of the many, not the hands of the few rich fucks. I'm pissed, I might as well watch TV if this is comes true.

  • Ironic how this on YouTube bought out by Google Video...

  • yeah..so true.

  • yes, but these days, any one who knows anything would be able to 'build' his own access point into the net

  • hmmm, i don't see how coroporations can have so much restricting power on the internet, it simply controls the cost of entry, not the content of the internet. a corporation can't stop you from posting.

one body that can stop you from doing that is the government, who puts more and more restrictions on our freedoms

  • If they control the access, the control what you are and are not allowed to do.

  • damn the man

    just damn him

    damned man
