Dave is wrong though - just like for private schools or private insurances, even though they are not "managed directly by the government", the sole fact that the government provides subsidies or "tax incentives" of any sort channels money into sectors where it would have gone in a "different amount" without the incentive (people will buy more cars just because the gov gives an incentive or a tax deduction - even though they wouldn't have otherwise). Crappy rant. Him & Peter Schiff. Same mistake.

No. It would depend on How much I donated? If I donate $500,000 and they gave me season tickets that were worth $1000 (if that) then an essence i dontated $499,000. in this case I DONTATED stupid Liberals
Yes but what if you donated a more realistic 10K and your tickets are worth a more realistic 3k. You are then allowed to take a 10k tax deduction even though you only donated 7K. Thats what the reporter was talking about.

Well no one likes to be taxed, but the bills of this country have to be paid somehow. I am probably one of the most taxed individuals here. Yes we should cut spending, I just dont see it happening.
Liberal socialists claim to care for people while taking others money to give away to those who haven't earned it. Punishing prosperity they take away incentive. I'm all for helping others but it should be by choice. Many of those which welfare seemingly helps, are debilitated & demoralized by the handouts. People flourish when they help themselves as much as possible. Capitalism isn't perfect but socialism is a nightmare.
"People flourish when they help themselves as much as possible. Capitalism isn't perfect but socialism is a nightmare. "
And bailing out companies to the tunes of millions is a better solution. People kill me with that socialist bullcrap when it comes to individuals but remain awfully stupid when it comes to bailouts for corporations. The same corporations that help Republicans and Democrats.
Make no mistake -- the bailouts were a terrible idea as well. How did you construe that @sistermitzi was defending the bailouts, particularly after arguing against welfare, since they're practically the same thing?
It's amazing that the liberals get so mad at Fox News. One fair and balanced station. All the other networks are so leftist it's pathetic. Maybe that's why Fox is slaughtering them in the ratings?
"It's amazing that the liberals get so mad at Fox News. One fair and balanced station. All the other networks are so leftist it's pathetic. Maybe that's why Fox is slaughtering them in the ratings?"
And you actually believe that. The same media that pays Fox Cronies is the same media that pays so-called liberals. Point is they are all CORPORATE MEDIA. If you want the real truth you won't find it on Fox, CNN, or anywhere else.
Part2 Tax wise, many individuals either don't itemize, itemize but fail to claim a charitable deduction, or even claim the deduction but have limitations that reduce or negate any tax benefit. Never have I had a client tell me they gave money to a church or university because of the deduction. Their gifts were irrespective of any tax benefit. I think the view of the media & other liberals is that government is the source of all things good, & if someone or entity benefits, its only by gov't.
Its all a matter of viewpoint. Those who believe government owns all property and we are allowed to have a portion, then they will see the contribution as Government allowing the universities to have these monies. If you believe in private property, and if you donate to a charitable, educational, or even other governmental or public projects, that public good is benefited solely because of the benevolence of the individual.
America is great because we have options. That's why every year millions of people from around the world try to get in. I wish there were 300Dave Ramsy's in the US Congress saying"no We can't afford it!"
Thanks to the great 2008 last minute unbudgeted spending frenzy, the interest on the national debt will soon grow to over $1trillion per year. We need to knock that out as a national goal. Every responsible person should be demanding a debtfree America to pass on to the youth. Not this mess.
Money not taken by the government in taxes (tax deduction)is YOUR MONEY. The only credit the government can take for how that money is spent is for the gov't to admit that you know how to spend it better.

...continued. The $2500 in lost tax dollars went to support college sports. Our government chose that program to support as a tax deduction, but didn't do the same for the others deemed unworthy of our support/money/subsidy. the government does NOT subsidize anything by giving you a tax deduction on your donation. The government gave YOU a deduction, they did NOT give any UNIVERSITY money directly. I got an awesome idea for you liberals to think about, Im going to donate $10,000 to the satanic church (not because I believe in satanism, but because I dont think the government subsidizes enough money to the satanists enough. It's my choice what I donate to and it such as hell wont be the soc... oops I mean democraps
I like Dave alot, but this is just plain stupid and somewhat manipulative. The tax break for college sports is done to support it, and the $2500 tax has been lost and will either be found in higher taxes or less government services (the ultimate goal?). Put it this way for the republican ideals pushed here, if the government allowed the same $10k donation to whores, drug dealers, or better yet, the DNC, wouldn't the government be subsidizing them with our tax dollars? ....to be continued...
People don't understand the difference in economic philosophies, but some simply choose to disguise their views and slowly force socialism/communism on the public. The line gets blurred a little more every day. Thank you, Dave, for setting things straight! God bless you!
Dave is awesome. The people who don't like him just don't like what he's saying. But following his program will work. It's the harder way but it's the right way. Dave Ramsey should run for President. He couldn't POSSIBLY be any worse than Bush.
Dave, as usual is RIGHT ON! He always is. I am so sick of having to support programs that I have no control over. It's my money. I'm not lucky, I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I worked hard to get where I am, and the harder I work the more the liberals / socialists try to take away. If this continues there will be no incentive to try and do better. Once that happens then where will you IDIOTS get your free money? Get a job! Stop playing video games and do something! UGHHHH!
Dave... These IDIOTS that don't agree have opinions bred and born of their own ignorance. Liberl/Socialists: 'Tax deductions' and 'subbsidies' are 2 different things. You 're-define' things when they don't coincide with your Liberal agenda. The comment regarding the 8k x 2k split: Government/University is proof that you are pissed that YOU don't get your cut, rather is 'given' to someone else. If you want money, go WORK FOR IT! Responses are welcome and encouraged.
He's wrong about this one. If I spend my income on buying $10,000 worth of Dave Ramsey books (or Britney Spears CDs), I pay taxes on it. If I spend the same $10,000 on a donation to a university, I don't pay taxes on it. That tax incentive is a subsidy any way you slice it. The word "subsidy" will become inappropriate when, and only when, that purchase of a Britney Spears CD or a Dave Ramsey book gets the same tax treatment as a donation to the university.
You can't stand that anyone but you (Liberals) would get something for free, just as YOU wan't 'that someting' (2,000.00) for free. The thought of offering a 50% discount of tax on donations never occurred to you either, huh. Of course not, you want it ALL.
Any way I agree with him totally here. He's right, governments don't support tax exempt status churches, they just give citizens the right to give freely of their money. That doesn't mean that the US endorses a certain belief or denomination just like it doesn't mean that the gov. endorses college athletics. This Yang guy seems to definitely be an idiot.
BTW I'm DEBT FREE!(but I am only 17 so I have plenty of time to be swamped in debt)
"Any way I agree with him totally here. He's right, governments don't support tax exempt status churches, they just give citizens the right to give freely of their money."
Don't be silly: the citizens already had that "right." The tax deduction is EXTRA, on top of that "right"-- um, a subsidy.
Say you pay your taxes and then have a mere $8000 to give to your church/ university. But thanks to the tax deduction, you suddenly have $10k. Where did that extra $2k come from? Subsidy.
Hey moron... How do you figure a tax deduction is 'EXTRA' when a person would have to GIVE 10,000.00 away for free with nothing to show for it. (just in case you're a little rusty at math, the tax benefit on 10k doesn't off-set the expense of the donation, so effectively, the 'donor' is still 'in the hole'.
You may or may not know what the word "moron" means, but in fact in the scenario I outlined one person does, in fact, have more money to spend than the other. Call it "more," or call it "extra," same difference. Call me a moron, and I'm still right about this.
(A) socialism is not liberalism. There are socialistic liberals and conservatives, but free-market economics is inherently a liberal idea. (B) Mainstream media is horrendous. Don't watch it. Duh. (C) If an organization is not taxed on it's income, whether gift, property sales, ticket sales or bible sales, it's a government subsidy. It simply is.
"The sky is not falling," Dave. In spite of all that, you are doing good work, keep it up!
Correction: A 'subsidy' is something (tangible or monetary [as in REAL money]) that the Govt. gives to assist an entity to operate effectively.
How can the Govt. 'give' something to an entity, that it never had to start with? If this were true, you'd be able to deduct expenses from your business that you never had. You can't do that... They can't do that... therefore in these cases, they are NOT subsidies, so get over it.
Dave's right! I have disabled friends who say they're entitled to these funds. But I must say, this entitlement mentality, socialism will wreck the US economy if we continue down this road.

I love Dave Ramsey too, but come on people! there is no Liberal, socialist agenda in media. TV networks are out to get an audience, that's it!. FOX/ABC may slant to the right, and CBS/NBC slant to the left for sure! Dave has a point w/ this tirade. But don't label ALL media as socialists! Bill O'Riley, Olbermann etc. they all say stupid crap that doesn't make sense. I'm debt free because of Dave Ramsey, but I do not subscribe to right/left wing conspiracy theories, from anyone.
Yeah, but FOX was the result of the bias presented by NBC, ABC and CBS. You should give credit to Rush Limbaugh who really helped people open their eyes to the media bias.
Another point: Look at the news staff at MSNBC, ABC News, NBC News, etc. Most are former assistants in the Carter or Clinton administrations: Chris Matthews, Brian Williams, George Step.
The more I listen to Ramsey, the more I like the guy. I'm 90% on board with the debt thing, but I've gotten a lot of good advice from him and he has the basics down pat.
The guy who made that claim forgot that Dave has already paid tax on his $10,000, or he wouldn't have it. So he doesn't have to pay twice. He can give it to a bum on the street if he wants.
I don't either. So I have to wait for his appearances on Fox News or perhaps any other channel to hear (and see him). BUT MAN DID HE UNLOAD ON THE CORPORATE FASCISTS AT NBC!
The sad part of that NBC spot, "The Fleecing of America", is that it is seen by people who swallow this crap hook, line and sinker. Kind of the way they swallow the crap being fed them on a daily basis about Barack Hussein Obama. Pure, unadulterated CRAP! And they are full of it.
I would run out of money & wind up million of dollars in debt if I watched NBC Nightly News because I would be buying a television every morning after I watched the program because I would throw a freaking sledgehammer at the screen. Walk into Best Buy, "I'll have the usual".

NObama '08. What has Obama accomplished in his career?

The only solution is for the Gov't to take all money and allocate it to the poor. Obama 2008!!!!

SCUM-BURGER!
He called himself an athletic supporter lol

Subsidy.
eatingworms 3 years ago
Hey moron... How do you figure a tax deduction is 'EXTRA' when a person would have to GIVE 10,000.00 away for free with nothing to show for it. (just in case you're a little rusty at math, the tax benefit on 10k doesn't off-set the expense of the donation, so effectively, the 'donor' is still 'in the hole'.
tazztt1 3 years ago
You may or may not know what the word "moron" means, but in fact in the scenario I outlined one person does, in fact, have more money to spend than the other. Call it "more," or call it "extra," same difference. Call me a moron, and I'm still right about this.

I am a Dave fan, but he goes over the top here.

You're an idiot.
SVBerk65 3 years ago
What's it like to be wrong, tell me.

I'm debt free because of Dave Ramsey, but I do not subscribe to right/left wing conspiracy theories, from anyone.
onairhokie 3 years ago
Yeah, but FOX was the result of the bias presented by NBC, ABC and CBS. You should give credit to Rush Limbaugh who really helped people open their eyes to the media bias.
Another point: Look at the news staff at MSNBC, ABC News, NBC News, etc. Most are former assistants in the Carter or Clinton administrations: Chris Matthews, Brian Williams, George Step.

Wow. I've listened to ol' Dave for years and I don't think I've ever heard him get that mad! GO DAVE!!!!

The more I listen to Ramsey, the more I like the guy. I'm 90% on board with the debt thing, but I've gotten a lot of good advice from him and he has the basics down pat.
stevis78 3 years ago
The guy who made that claim forgot that Dave has already paid tax on his $10,000, or he wouldn't have it. So he doesn't have to pay twice. He can give it to a bum on the street if he wants.
avidalocan 3 years ago
No, he is not taxed on that $10,000 at the end of the year. It's called a tax deduction.

Dave is 100% correct. The media is so full of crap as to be unwatchable by anyone with critical thinking ability.

I agree with Dave Ramsey. The news report also shows us all the sloppy mess that try's to pass for journalism.

I don't either. So I have to wait for his appearances on Fox News or perhaps any other channel to hear (and see him). BUT MAN DID HE UNLOAD ON THE CORPORATE FASCISTS AT NBC!

I laughed at that part too man.

I paid extra $ for Fox Business News, just to get Dave Ramsey's show. Great common sense advice!
