@sydbarrett5 It would be great idea. Iggy Pop has already performed free jazz.in the Stooges "Funhouse" album. It was one of my favorite tracks in that album before I got into free jazz. Now I know why.
Sorry, but this is just noise. Plain and simple, no post bop avant-garde bs. Just noise plain and simple. It makes Bitches Brew sound like Kind of Blue. First jazz video that made me press the "thumb down" button.
Now we're talking - logged on to this expecting some band playing a song and then saying - Sting used to be in our band you know - like some sort of saddo - but this is great.
hey, that's 6-string fender bass/baritone guitar Bill Laswell is playing ! the beatles had one of those for studio use, in case someone except mcCartney wanted to play
I first heard LE because I was looking for a good jazz guitarist and was turned on to Sonny Sharrock. I wasn't that impressed at the time (still I heard something) because I was only just getting into free jazz and didn't even know noise. It's been around a year now and after discovering Brotzman (via Myspace of all places) and Bill Laswell (via John Zorn) I find myself hear again with new ears. It seems that my young ears were at least a little enlightened. All I'm sayin' is OGs right here.
I believe it is a Fender Bass VI, a six string bass voiced an octave higher than the usual bass (and an octave lower than a usual guitar). Robert Smith of the Cure is famous for using one.
like a baritone guitar especially when strummed, although it was intented to be used as a six string bass with the four lower strings corresponding to a four string bass. Modern 6-string bass, as far as i know, is tuned just like a modern baritone, only one octave lower, using much thicker strings of course :BEADGC
Gave my neightbours a hard time back in the early eighties when I listened to Last Exit, Painkiller ... while playing my trumpet all the time under my parents roof
I love this. Often, when i listen to last exit, i'm reminded of that sesame street exercise, "which of these things is not like the others?" the answer is always bill laswell. take that for whatever it's worth (probably very little).

Although, I don't like the bit after about 5:07, when he tries to step it up again, it sort of cheapens it. Idk, I can't explain it.

no, it is a bass strung like a guitar:
E A D G B E
Bass is only 1 octave lower than guitar, not 2.
But don't feel bad many people make this mistake for some reason.
rillloudmother 1 year ago
@rillloudmother
yes you're right. it was intented to be used as a six string bass and the tuning corresponds to that of a standard tuned guitar.
theo9952 1 year ago
@rillloudmother
But , come to think of it now, it sounds more
like a baritone guitar especially when strummed, although it was intented to be used as a six string bass with the four lower strings corresponding to a four string bass. @rillloudmother Maybe because guitar music is written an octave higher on the staff than it sounds.
