@bluebabe3000 acyually, not all the cast was different at one point, in 1996 Adam Pascal (playing Roger here) also played Roger on Broadway. Which was Jonathan Larsons original cast. Taye Diggs, who plays Benny, was also an original cast member.

Both Adam and Taye Diggs starred in this 2005 movie adaptation.

But its a shame they arent doing broadway anymore

@ChocoCoatedLemons in the play she most certainly gave it to him. mark explains it as part of the documentary...he says "his girlfriend april left a not saying 'we have aids' before slitting her wrists in the bathtub" she couln't have known he had it unless she gave it to him....she however could have gotten it from the needles as was depicted in the movie

@zTEDDYBEARz in the broadway show mark says it right before one song glory. as mark is leaving to go to life support with angel and collins he reminds roger to take his azt and then says the thing about april as an explanation. then roger gets frustrated and sing one song glory. im not positive if any of this happens in the movie(i've only seen it once, while i've seen the 'filmed live on broadway' dvd many times)...i hope that helps!

I love the back story to this, it makes the story so much more accessible to hetero guys because it reminds us that gay people weren't the only ones. I was so ignorant of gay equality before I saw Rent, I actually changed my religious beliefs because of this song.

Don't get angry when I point this out because I'm just defending my statement so please remember no offence is intended. When hiv/aids was just discovered by American medical bodies, the ignorant doctors at the time called it GRID (which stands for Gay Related Immune Deficiency). This stupidness carried on for decades and can actually still be found today. I think that Roger and Rent are both very important because they show that even straight people can get this evil illness.

61 Rent fans happen to agree with me. That's all the validation I need. And besides, the emotional impact a song can have on a person is totally subjective. Some songs you listen to and feel happy, others you feel depressed. The point is that not everyone feels the same way from the same song. It should also be mentioned that the song came to me in a time in my life when I stopped being socially biased towards gay people (what if people think I'm gay type stuff...very pathetic of me).

I am not sur eif anyone else has noticed this cause it is very hard to notice it unless u replay it a few times. But around 2:00-2:02 when his girl and the dealer are exchanging, I noticed a metallic strip on the Bill she hands him. Now I am not familair with American money, but I know that Canadian money has that metallic strip on all our bills, and it appeared to be a Canadian $20 bill. Can any one else make that observation?

I really don't know why they kinda sped up the songs for the movie. You can tell when you compare them to the OST, where they're at the normal tempo. This one also (because of the speeding up) is about a half tone higher. Still, my favorite song in the movie/play, thanks for it.

@ibriselric2 There can be various reasons really. Sometimes it's how the director or producer figure it would 'feel' for the movie. This incarnation of Rent is also a musical movie, not a live performance so they tend to want to stick to a more stringent timeframe for the length of the movie. Whereas live performances are naturally expected to be at least 3 hours with an intermission period as well. Another example is Angel not showing up 'in spirit' at the end. They felt viewers wouldn't get it
