  • For all of you who are saying that you would drink while pregnant I ask this. Would you also give your baby a glass of wine in his/her bottle? Alcohol kills brain cells. Period. You could kill the ones that help your child understand math or you could kill the ones that prevent your child from making the choice whether to walk across 6 lanes of heavy traffic. Why chance it?

  • ignorant mom of the year

  • for everybody who says they want to drink while pregnant because they are stressed: there are other ways to get rid of stress and those won't possibly damage you babys life for ever! so why not go with safe things like punching your husband? :D not going to hurt your baby and is good for stress^^

  • @littlepanimausi Because punching your husband is so safe and totally respectful.

  • @HaryuuNoHanekata it was a joke. calm down

  • @littlepanimausi I don't like jokes.

  • Ignorant!!!!!!! You are sending out a very bad message to those who are pregnant. I am a male and think about being able to have children everyday because I love them. Why would you want to chance the fact that fetal alcohol syndrome is inevitable? Think about your child and if you ask me, drinking alcohol while pregnant is the first signs of child abuse! When you are pregnant it is not all about you, it's about the child and their well being! Screw your relaxing buzz and be pregnant correctly!

  • @EssenRay08 you sir are a twat

  • I think it's stupid beyond reason to any type or amount of alcohol suring pregnancy. I'm not even having caffine! I'm sorry but I have a problem with taking even the slightest risk during the developement of my child.

  • The medical community is unsure. Some reports suggest that the same volume of alcohol may produce FAS in some children but not others. Others suggest that moms with severe stress levels during pregnancy can improve their child's health with infrequent drinking to relieve stress. Some health professionals tell moms they can drink very conservative amounts - some recommend it for stressed moms! The obvious safe side is to abstain completely, but we can't say that ANY level of alcohol is dangerous.

  • What! You must have other children or not value your pregnancy But for moms that try for years before they get pregnant or cant have children would not dream of drinking while pregnant. Are you kidding me, 9 months is not that long to wait to have a drink. Thats kind of sad, im sorry. Your child will probably be fine, but why the hell would you risk it. Im 14 weeks now and i try and do everything i can to keep my baby healthy. Good luck to you,

  • Your lack of knowledge makes me sad. I have an adopted son who has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. The only birth defect that is 100% avoidable! Dr.s in this country need to read the research or spend a day with an FAS child! I am so sorry that these kids have life long disabilities caused by their mothers who couldn't give up drinking for 9 short months! No amount of alcohol is ok when pregnant, that is the only answer. I pray that your child is ok. Because I wouldn't wish FAS on anyone!

  • Hmmmm ... Let´s just think about this LOGICALLY for a moment. You and your baby are connected via your umbilical cord right? So that means that EVERYTHING you consume is passed on to your baby right?

So if we don´t give our babies and toddlers and children alcohol because it´s bad for them and dangerous ..... why would you give your unborn baby alcohol???????

You need a new doctor for starters!!! I breaks my heart what you are doing to your baby ....

  • A "cool mom" has no idea what stage of developement the cell are in when she is drinking...it is a huge risk.

Get a grip people....if you can't abstain from a drink of alcohol for 9 mos...you've got real problems. Ever heard of the word "self-restraint"....oh, sorry, you're a "cool mom".

  • This is not a cool mom! Maybe US docs say its ok, but ask a doctor in a country where Fetal Alcohol is actually diagnoised and they will tell you NO drinking while pregnant. Not Cool!

In the US, doctors don't want to "offend" moms by blaming their childrens emotional/developmental/physical disabilites on a "cool mom who drank a bit while pregnant" NO in the US, the docs just medicated the child - a little ritalin never hurt anyone.

  • Alcohol is not fine....not even a 'little bit'. My adopted daughter has FASD. Her birthmom drank a beer a week from month 5 on. That is not fine.

  • @LetzWrock when my grandmother was pregnant with my aunt she would drink alot of beer and my aunt is perfectly healthy has a great job and 2 awsome children so i have hada glass of wine or 2 at new years and chirstmas and i will have a touch of alcohol on occasion yes im pregnant i also did that with my daughter and shes EXTREMELY healthy and vibrant so it depends on the people i guess

  • What an idiot. How will she know if her baby has FASD or if it's just like it's mother? And if her dr really told her it was ok, then her dr is an idiot, too. Alcohol always kills brain cells. How many does this kid have to spare?

  • Perhaps you should hang out with my kids for a few days. Both were exposed to alcohol in utero - moderate drinking. Poor memory, poor choices for behavior, poor social skills. Life is hard for them. They will never drink when pregnant, because they live with the consequences every day and will for the rest of their lives.

  • Of course its safe to have a glass of wine here and there, The Dr.'s are right most people are too stupid to decide what is a little. I went to my husbands ned school graduation 7 mnths pregnant and so badly wanted a glass of champaigne at the dinner I knew it would bne fine to even have 2 glasses but I was huge and sisnt want people to see it and freak out!

  • 0*4*9

Zero Alcohol for the Nine Months of Pregnancy is The Only Safe Choice.

  • Lol, I knew that already.

Everybody is just a bunch of close minded bitches.

I know I will drink a little when I am pregnant.

Also, doctors are better than nurses.

  • My Dr told me the same thing, a little is ok occassionally :)

and as for the person who sd we never give our babies/toddlers alcohol has obviously never heard of what our grandmothers used to do with just a little whisky or the like to help with sleep and also to rub on gums for teething pain

  • umm...actually you are wrong.

I've taken numerous food nutrition classes and my instructors have told me that NO AMOUNT of alcohol is considered safe for your unborn child. When I was pregnant I would have an occasional glass of red wine and thank God my son didn't turn out with any disabilities. If I ever got pregnant again no way would I take a sip. The funny thing is is that doctors don't have to take one single nutrition course. I'm going to nursing school and I just learned that. Bummer.

  • lmao right on!

  • Well PurpleCantaloupe, doctors are chosen to make decisions and help pregnant mothers decide what is best for their child. If they say an occasional sip of wine on certain occasions is okay, then obviously it is fine. A small amount of alcohol has no proven studies of birth defects or problems.

  • Britaniwalling,

Obviously you haven´t done much research then because just the opposite is true! There are thousands of studies out there that DO say that even small amounts of alochol have been proven to NOT be safe for a baby and CAN and DO cause birth defects.
