thats very interesting. it seems the only issue people have with moss 500's generally involve the safety. whether it breaks because of it being plastic or otherwise. i love my mossberg 500 anyway, the thing is a tank.
Wish I would have seen this before I installed a new Mako Group grip and side folding stock that I ordered from Natchez Shooters Supply... No instructions, so used factory hardware which ended up sheering the internal safety... Now my Mossberg 500 fires when mechanical safety is engaged. Also nothing but horrible customer service from both Natchez and Mako Group... Never doing business with again.. Lesson learned....

After watching your newer videos and then this one, I have to congratulate on exactly how well you've done taking care of yourself. Your face looks much more defined and healthy now.
Well, I read pistol-grip and it therfore doesn't apply to me. From watching the video, if the safety is defective, any gun owner knows the safety is as reliable as the front door lock on your house, "NOT TO BE TRUSTED, ONLY A PRECAUTION". Thenm you said you're NOT SURE what he did with the gun?? WTF? Wow, don't know if he sold it like that? You both are NOT TO BE TRUSTED. A safety is named a safety for a reason, if YOU trust a safety at all, you shouldn't handle that very gun in the video PERIOD
I just recently purchased the Mossberg 500 Persuader and it came stock with only a pistol grip. When I was at the rage after about the 5th round the safety switch would move it self to the middle between the safety and fire mode and would not let me fire. I just contacted Mossberg and I'm sending it back for repairs. There are a ton of pages with people that have the same problem. From what I'm reading it due to the plastic safety switch that Mossberg decided to swap out instead of metal switch
If you are in the market for a mossberg and want to use a pistol grip I would say to go with the maverick 88. The main diffrence with the 88 is the safety is on the trigger guard and not on top of the gun.It can be reached without letting go of the grip hitting the safety and going back to the grip
Safety Issue is the installers mistake. The bolt used to mount he pistol grip needs to be shorter. If you had disassembled your mossberg for proper cleaning you would know how the safety works. The safety is a large lever that gets blocked by the bolt protruding into the safety operation area. The pistol grip should have come with a much shorter bolt.
sorry to spam up your comments... but is your safety switch in your trigger assemble backwards? that can be easily reinstalled the wrong way, it has an angle like this /I at the top, it will reinstall backwards like this I\
Hogue Tamer pistol grip will not cause this issue.
loudly racking the action is not a deterrent, it can turn a simple home invasion into a gun fight. the ultimate goal is not to hope someone breaks in so you can kill them. if someone breaks into your home, the first thing you should grab is your phone, then assess the threat.
I have a 500cruiser which came with both barrels and a pistol grip. About 15 years ago i fired it once with the safety on and the rectangular safety slide on the top fell off in two pieces. The shotgun went into the back of the safe, and HAS NOT been loaded since. I think mossberg knows about this problem and has known it for a long time. I will NEVER buy any mossberg because of this.
Thank you for the video. That's good to know. Since its an after market grip and not the original, with differences in the length of the screw, Im sure that's what it is. I would really like to know for sure though. I happen to use my safety feature and I guess Im sticking with the pistol grip my Mossberg 500 came with.
Storing a shotgun with a round up the spout is not a good idea. A safety is NOT foolproof. A dropped weapon, even with the safety on could, has, and therefore WILL discharge.
That is really weird. I have had 2 mossberg 500a and it came with full rifle stock and pistol grip. On both shotguns with the factory pistol grip this never happened. With an after market safety, this never happened. I believe this is a user error.
I do not see an issue here. The only safety needed on a gun is called keeping your finger off the trigger. I never use gun safeties and I keep all my guns loaded ready to go. In fact, I have a CWP and I always carry my pistol loaded with the safety off. All a safety does is give the bad guy more time to react. Under the stress of an unforgiving situation the last thing you want to do is be fumbling around with a safety. Just keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire!
You can have a shell in the receiver and STILL have the SOUND--- here is the way--- have the receiver chamber empty. Cock the gun and pull the trigger.
THEN put the shell in the receiver. Now, to fire, you have to cock it. The shell will not eject, but you'll be ready to fire, AFTER THE SOUND.
Just going to say that IS NOT at all how at least these shotguns work. To be honest I have never heard of a single shotgun that could work this way, because well that's just not how they work...You might want to reconsider spreading false info, some idiot might actually listen to you and hurt themselves.....
I agree with your review. The only time i need a safety is when using a different barrel and for hunting where the "sound of loading the chamber" is not suitable.
I do have a pistol grip on my mossberg 500 and the safety does work because I test it. I had a regular pistol grip and the safety worked. I now have a knoxx stock pistol grip and the safety works, it will not fire. So thanks for bringing that unsafe problem to everyone.
In law enforcement we do keep the chamber without a shell in it for psychological reasons and when we crank one in and point it at the suspects, they know what weapon it is and they mostly comply. I keep mine ready full of rounds and safety on but everything comes to constant practice. I can take that safety off fast and chamber a round but to each his own, just practice the tactical techniques that will keep you safe at home or other. Good video.
you are 100% right! i recently installed a folding recoil mako stock and experienced the same thing and more.. my extractor sometimes fails to grab a round and chamber it . I came to the realization that the allen bolt that holds the stock on protrudes into the safety mechanism and interferes with it as well as the rest of the internal parts...i will refit my original take some measurements and perhaps use spacers or file the excess on the bolt down so it doesnt interfere with the safety.
mine came with a telescoping stock and a pistol grip.. the safety was a pain to use though, it was moving back and forth very rigidly. i took it apart, realigned the little ball and spring there and now its working great. brownell's also sells the spring and ball that are better designed to work with the safety switch for those that are having the same problem.
dude, i literally just switched to pistol grip a half hour ago, and i'm so glad i found your video. however with mine it will dry fire with the safety on, but when i'm loaded the safety is functional. my time is kind of limited, henceforth doing all this at 3am, but i will take the weapon apart within the next couple of weeks and once i know what the problem is, i'll def pass it foward.
This is why I opted for the Maverick model, as it has a standard cross bolt safety on the trigger guard. You also don't have to break your grip, which is something you have to do to use the saftey on the reciever.
my 500 is stock and the only safty problem i got is the safty will slip down just barly and casue it to not fire after the first shot every now and then
@rizukan Seriously? As a "police officer", you should be very well aware of the fact that you are delusional if you feel that you have time to rack a slide, let alone load ammo into the darn thing.
@roby14 yes and no...yes but your talking long term, what weekens a spring the most is the tension of it being pushed on then released, or use stress...there are pump action shotguns that are stored loaded and work fine after decades...
@cutlerylover TRUE!! Confirmed that with my uncle, a SCIENTIFIC GENIUS, it's all about REPETITIVE compression and decompression/loading and unloading will wear it quicker than simply leaving it loaded. Good rule of thumb is to always keep it downloaded by ONE at least on standard mag's (4+1, 5+1), with the extended(7+1, 8+1, etc) leave it down by about two. This'll keep your spring lasting longer, spend about $10, or $30 if you're me (one for EACH!) & get an extra Wolff spring as CHEAP backup!
Seen friends 590A1 (mine's full stock'd w/no problem) w/pistol grip, it works fine (he works @ gunshop), but the AFTERMARKET P.Grips need to have attention payed to the LENGTH of the screws, especially if it's been converted from full-stock to pistol grip'd, i.e. NON FACTORY installed. They SHOULD send a notice out with EVERY Mossy 500, 590, and 590A1 that this is a KNOWN ISSUE. Go check out MossbergOwners forum, GREAT GUY'S WHO LOVE TO HELP!! I'll be there if ya need too!! GOOD LUCK, BE SAFE!!
@roby14 Yeah mines been loaded for almost 2yrs now and it still works fine. Thats old shit! I got a Beretta 92 mag that was loaded with 15batteries. it slipped down into the spare tire well of my car. I found it almost three years later. After I was done shooting all the rounds out of it, i took it apart and the spring was fine.
@roby14 it depends on how long they're in there, how many are in, if the gun is used (if the previous owner did the same), and what kind of shotgun your using, but generally it's not really somthing to worry about. if your using your shotgun for home defense and your worried about the spring weakening, i recommend just keeping one in the chamber. that should get the job done :)
@rizukan Ive heard of people putting a less than lethal projectile in for the first shot so that if one of your buddys comes over to your house in the middle of the night drunk and you shoot him hes good to go. or if you got teens and they decide to sneak out at night and they get shot they would be fine. but if it is a bad guy you can easily pump two rounds out real quick.
Wow!good info 2know.but some comments below are different!first those w/children should not leave ammo in gun!if it takes more than 2seconds 2load shell u need practice.2nd identify your target!3.you illegally entered my home! No sandbags.no shots to arm.you are dead!cause lawsuits are are stupid!Castle doctrine thumps lawyer.im in texas listen to 911 tapes 3 years ago.neighbor watch crooks from home next door.he told 911 he was gonna shoot.he did killed 2people.trial,not guilty!I LOVE TEXAS!
i have a 500 and i put an ati stock on it and it installs the same way as the pistol grip and if u use the bolt that comes with the grip then you wont have that problem
This is the first time I have ever heard of this problem. I have that exact mossberg 500 and it came with a pistol grip. I even instaled a Knox tactical stock and I have no problems.
@rizukan I dont have kids, and I dont have time to load the gun with ammo when someones in my home...I appreciate your suggestion, but its counterproductive in my case, having ammo in a gun is no different than having a sharp edge on your kitchen knife, its only dangerous if you misuse it...
The only Audio the mother fucker will hear in my house is his intestines plopping onto the floor from a 3 1/2 00 buck magnum wound cavity.. Thanks for the warning about the P grip man. I will advise.
This is exactly why long guns should not be kept with a loaded chamber. Manual safeties can fail. Most designs don't have the same level of internal safeties as modern handguns (like an inertia "drop" safety) which are designed to be carried chamber loaded. In a home invasion, if you lock your doors etc. you should have enough time to chamber a round in your long gun.
i can see it now criminal enters your at the stairs he hears the iconic chhh chhh and in a distant voice while he runs he is screaming "fuckkkkkk thisssssss!!!"
i got a mossberg 590 with a heat shield and 8 round tube... i also have an 870 (express tactical) and i like the capacity and bayonet feature on the mossy , but for me the remington has a smoother action and trigger pull... but BOTH ARE GREAT!
are bean-bag rounds legal for civilians? cuz for hunting of course i would use regular buckshot or whatever but for home defence i would like the bean bag just cuz its nonlethal.
i added ATI Shotforce Collapsing Shotgun Butt Stock 6 Position Adjustable and had the same problem..
so i look out the trigger assembly and seen that the mount was pushing on the safty keeping it from locking into place easy fix is to just take off the grip and file the end that is bumping up against the safty tab inside the recever. its plastic and is easy to file
I have a mossberg 500 persuader, I have an advanced technologies folding stock that I mounted on it. It is essentially a pistol grip with a locking hinged folding stock attached to it and mounts up like any pistol grip. My safety functions correctly on mine. It could be hardware related (as in the mounting screw), I would remove the pistol grip and replace the original stock\grip (use original hardware) back on to see if the problem persists. If it dose something may be damaged internally.
no offense but your stupid you should always keep the safety on one because you seem to know nothing about firearms and because you keep shells in the magazine tube so it should always be kept on and all you have to do to turn it off is push forward
I purchased a Mossberg 500 today and installed the pistol grip and fortunately I am not running into this issue. With the pistol grip installed the safety is still fully functional and does enter into its safe mode with the trigger fully locked.
Mossberg owner myself.......I would shoot an intruder in the arm so you can tell them to leave and not come back. That way you don't have to deal with a dead body.
I own that mossberg as well. The problem is most probably with the bolt used for the stock. I bought mine with a pistol-grip, and bought an aftermarket adjustable buttstock. It is easy to see where the problem would be. Put your weapon on safe, send your bolt home, remove your stock and pull the retaining pin on your trigger group assembly. (mine is original parts [plastic]) Slide the safety and then check your bolt length and clearance. Add washers or change the bolt and inspect 4damage.
like the video, well u seem cool but i don't use racking a round as audible deterent to criminals.all that will do is alert them to your location to shoot u.don't depend on putting shell in chamber when needed, slide action can get caught on something,i've had my 500 get caught while hunting.i have a pistol grip but haven't tried the safety for i like full stock, although i do use the 18 1/2 barrel.pistol grip hurts wrist and cannot be aimed at eye level.which is disadvantage when shooting 20yds +.
Great video. i just purchased a 500 today, i was wondering, what are the advantages of putting a pistol grip on the firearm?? and how much does it cost to modify it??
also, my barrel has a normal tip, yours looks awesome haha, is that just an attachment? does it have any advantages/disadvantages regarding accuracy??
i think your friends idea of keeping one in the chamber is a better idea. i UNDERSTAND that where you are located is different then where i may be located but i would assume that anybody who KNEW me that decided to enter my house without my consent would be there to do me harm. i do not want to even let this person know that i am aware of their presence untill i can see them before they are even looking for me.
@shatheprodigy I dont mind giving the person a fighting chance, no suprises if you in ym home you get to hear that noise its upo to you to figure out you should leave or chance death
@shatheprodigy I like anyone else will do the best to kill them 1st, but at least they will know they had a chance to leave, peoepl tend to forget law issues too, say you shoot someone and they dont die, at least in my case I had a warfning, what if you accidentaly shoot your neighbor who was trying to just get in touch with you about something, often tiems people shoot their spuses who get up in the night to pee...at least once you rack the gun your wife may yell its me honey...ect...
@shatheprodigy keep in mind there is no real right and wrong here this is just what I do and why I do it...there are a very few scenarios out there where it may so more harm than good, Im just trying to cover the general scenario
@cutlerylover I am completely with you and your logic on keeping the weapon loaded but without a shell in the chamber....the sound of the weapon being racked WILL hopefully scare away the intruder. My question is, does keeping the magazine tube full harm the feeding spring? Will it lose it's tension value over time? I also have a double action semi auto 9mm that I keep store in the same fashion, though I do keep a round chambered because it is double action.

@shatheprodigy god I absolutely love how mature you are with your responses, you don't say stuff as fact, but it's for YOU, YOUR opinion. I really wish more people would be like this, but alas, ignorance is the new fad.
BTW, have you ever tried that KNOXX Blackhawk pistolgrip/stock? The spring loaded one?
I recently bought a Mossberg 500 tactical persuader with the pistol grip and the reduced stock. I had the same problem when I was shooting my gun. The safety would engage while I was shooting.. Then it eventually got stuck and I could not take it off safe.. I took the gun back to where I bought it and they are working on the issue. I'll let you know how it goes when I get it back.
Not really. If you keep it close by, like in your room, you have plenty of time as long as you have an alarm system, dog, or aren't a heavy sleeper. No need to live your life in fear.
Last and finaly question lmao .. are the pistol grip kits reliable ? Like have you fired your shotty since youve installed it ? how firm are the grips i dont want to buy one and the grip come off while im shooting it lol
BTW, Can you make a vid for first time 500 users as myself to teach us mainly about the anatomy of the gun ? like how to get the stock off and things of that nature .. thanks ..
See people like this guy are the people who get lots of views and subs on review vids .. you can here what he is saying and is straight and to the point .. not looking down when he talks looking straight at the camera .. youtube quality right here !
just checked my 500 that came with the stock and grip. the stock bolt is longer and uses a hex bolt with a flat screwdriver machined in it. the pistol grip uses a allen type bolt. mine works fine. good post by the way. made me check mine. good gun.
Mine came with a pistol grip, and works fine. No safety problems. I prefer a pistol grip with this Breacher model as I keep it on my side out of the way with a bungee for any breaching or CQB. Primary is an AR-15.
ya i have a mossberg 500 i just purchased and i checked out your video i dont have that problem on mine its a pistol grip like yours it came that way when i purchased it but i am concern if i will ever have this problem ever in the future now that i seen this....im curious though off da subject what can you get to reduce the recoil on the mossberg 500?
@Sblackman07 Get a shoulder stock, bud. Recoil is going to be pretty intense with a pistol grip no matter what you do.. Unless you're trying to conceal your gun or use it indoors (around tight spaces) then there truly is no reason to have a pistol grip without a shoulder stock.
I respect your choice of arming and thought the same thing. I also have the same exact gun. Until I talked to my CCW Instructor and he recommended having one in the chamber ready with safety on because the ratcheting sound may merely mark your location rather than scare a trapped criminal away in your dark home at 3:00 am. When I say trapped, the sound may help him forget how he got in and he may try defending himself instead of fleeing. I now prefer the element of surprise instead.
Hm, very interesting and informative video, my friend! Incidentally, we purchased a Mossberg 500 over 5 years ago, and like most other 500 deals, ours came with a pistol grip. I have yet to install it; after watching this video, I've become aware of this problem.
As much as I love the Mossberg 500, it really seems like there are some limitations in terms of life, functioning, durability, and whatnot compared to other popular shotguns like the 870 or the 1300. No matter, still love the 500. =]
Love that shot gun, just want to say if an intruder comes into your home with a hand gun, which is most probable, and hears you rack your shot gun, they need to run, they have very little chance of surviving a confrontation with that shot gun. Straigt up, I have a Mossberg 500 and other guns, and I would not be intimidated by an intruder with a hand gun. Mossberg is great at clearing hallways, and close range.
You're assuming they know it's a shotgun.Maybe it's better to stay quiet, guard your family and when the intruder gets in range...............open up on them.
Hey, haven't gotten a response but will let you know what happened anyway. I got a Mossberg almost by accident. Wanted the 870 but was not instock in the short barrle only had the one with retractible stock which was a crazy $670 I told the guy about your video and he showed me a Moss with a pistol grip and the saftey worked just fine. He told me it may be that it was assembled incorrectly. Again, I'm the newb so I won't pretend to know anything, just letting you know what he said.
I'm buying either a Remington or a Mossberg tomorrow.NOT a gun guy until now and so i won't pretend to know anything. I am concerned about this and I think I'll spring the extra $100 for the Remington just because of this video, so thanks. but I have a question beyond that. I like your explination about loading the gun but keeping the chanber empty, BUT I have a 10 month old and when he gets old enough I don't want this to become an issue. I do think it is harder for a child use the pump (cont)
if they are armed that sound lets them no to shoot first. but i think you are right ,as far as the screws go. mine came with the pistol grip screw that! you have to aim a shotgun too!! i put my blackhawk knox stock on with no problem, peace out
I own a 500 and I was debating whether or not to install a pistol grip or not. After watching this, I don't think I will be trying that. One other thing, do you know whether or not installing the pistol grip with the butt stock combo suffers from the same defect?
Something to consider, I am not attacking your personal choice, but if the person that is creeping around your house is also armed you have just warned them to shoot first instead of possibly running. If someone were to break in my house they are already desperate enough to do something that quite possibly get them hurt or killed, and a person that is backed into a corner like that is just like an animal it will fight it's way free or die trying.
@mkiv46919 thanks but I have already taken that into consideration me coocking the gun is my way of saying if you stick ariound your going to die, period, if the criminal doesnt get that one of us WILL die, Im ok with that
@cutlerylover Like I said just offering my $0.02 wasn't hounding at you as others seemed to have been. The other thing that concerns me is if you don't have the time to rack one when you get to it. Once again nothing personal just concern.
@cutlerylover audio warning is fine if done from a place of concealment. Some criminals might respond to the sound by just blindly firing in the direction of the sound.
Thats the only way I'd store a pump action.....safe yet ready. It is a gun for home defense not a mantle piece....boozehound is a moron...Kinda a long clip but it definatly makes sense
Bad can happen. I'm not willing to take that chance. I live in a
Nice enough
Neighborhood where I don't have to worry about my place being robbed. That's why I keep my guns locked up. But I know how to get to them and load them fast enough
Hey, bro, I find your videos informing. I also have a Mossberg 500 with a shoulder stock. I want to add a sling. There is an eyelet on the butt end of the stock but not at the barrel end. I bought an Uncle Mike's packet that has a new magazine cap that has a built in eyelet so I can attach the sling to the upper end of the gun. But the cap screw is held by a washer. Can't figure how to remove the washer. Any ideas? Thanks and keep trucking.
Own video and listen to every word you say. Then laugh at
Yourself and take this video down." hahahhah ur way too funny, he is an american citizen and can do whatever he wants, is it really your problem to critisize him for protecting him/his property? all i can say is wow... *slowly claps hands*
@Boozehound817 sure leaving a gun unattended in a house full of kids might be stupid. this guy lives alone, maybe you have young kids running around if so your situation is different. My Mossberg stays loaded with 5 in the tube all i have to do is pick it up pump it put it on fire and squeeze. hopefully they hear the pump and leave first. I live with 3 other adults. So your dead wrong about telling this guy he's wrong for leaving his gun loaded. your the clown here. and 3 of us so far think so.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If you don't
Think my point is valid. The don't listen to it. I'm just saying that keeping a firearm loaded is a stupid idea. My shotgun is locked in a case. With a slide lock on it.
Before you use your shotgun on an intruder. Someone will find it and hurt/kill themselves.
How many times have you heard of someone shooting someone on accident. And how many times have you heard someone shooting an intruder.
@Boozehound817 not that it matters to you but I live alone, and I wont accidentaly shoot myself, on a side note if you live in a household where you cant trrust others there to not play with your gun, than you shoudlnt own guns, period, locked up or not, unless your talking about kids, thats different, lastly I hope you never have a problem and need your gun, you wotn be able to get to it on time
@Boozehound817 you shoudl watch ym other videos, I carry a pistol loaded on me everywhere I go, the mall the stores fast food palces ect, I AM in public with you and your family thousand of us are, one day you may have to thank us, OR you may have to run from us, either way you wont have the option to fight back if you dont carry
@cutlerylover i agree with you a have my firearms loaded all the time. i think tho thts its our responsability to teach others around us how to hande guns, ie. children, friends whatever. casue the one time some dude wlkas in and you dont have those extra 5 seconds. thn ur screwed.
@cutlerylover Be thankful you don't live in California. You won't be able to do that if you did. I have to carry mine openly and unloaded. We have to be a little more strategic-minded if we had to become involved in a firefight.
You said that you store the gun with the magazine fully loaded, but with none in the chamber. I store mine in almost the same fashion (being in a home with experienced gun handlers myself), except that I load mine with a full mag and one in the extractors with the action open.
I'd suggest that because it keeps the action during an emergency to a simple forward slide rather than a "release slide, pump back, pump forward" thing.
That would be why you educate your family on gun safety, while teaching younger children gun safety is controversial it's proven effective. Really, a little bit of thought can be put into play to figure this one out. Education leads to knowledge and knowledge eradicates the curiosity issue. With curiosity out of the way no one needs to pick the gun up point it and pull the trigger. It doesn't mean you DON'T lock the gun up (with it loaded). In the event that an intruder comes
@Boozehound817 I can't do anything but shake my head. I got this same reaction from my neighbor the other day, I asked if he wanted to see my new gun, he did, I showed it to him and he asked to hold it. After handing it to him he said "it's not loaded is it?" I had a good laugh and told him "yes, it's very loaded, guns tend to work better with bullets" the safety was on and there wasn't a round in the chamber, but he was visibly quite nervous and no longer wanted to hold it.
@Boozehound817 Those someones that shoot other people on accident are children fucking around with adult shit. If you are an adult and keep your gun loaded then you are not taking propper precaution in keeping it put up somewhere that either A - children dont know about or B - they cant get too. I myself keep my gun out of reach of children and unloaded but I have a couple rounds close by that no one knows about.
@Boozehound817 oh also if you rack the gun with nothing in it the slide lock has to be pushed before it can be racked again so you can rack it, put shells in the magazine and then it wont be able to be loaded until you hold down the slide lock and rack it again which is a very
my 500 came with a pistol grip and the safety works just fine...and is a mossberg.

Also nothing but horrible customer service from both Natchez and Mako Group... Never doing business with again.. Lesson learned....

ridgebuggy 2 months ago
Safety Issue is the installers mistake. The bolt used to mount he pistol grip needs to be shorter. If you had disassembled your mossberg for proper cleaning you would know how the safety works. The safety is a large lever that gets blocked by the bolt protruding into the safety operation area. The pistol grip should have come with a much shorter bolt.
vdub2002 2 months ago
i wouldnt keep a round in the chamber..because that relies on the hammer being held back on a live round by the trigger sear...not a good safety..

treezy8769 2 months ago
Hogue Tamer pistol grip will not cause this issue.
loudly racking the action is not a deterrent, it can turn a simple home invasion into a gun fight. the ultimate goal is not to hope someone breaks in so you can kill them. if someone breaks into your home, the first thing you should grab is your phone, then assess the threat.
treezy8769 2 months ago
@treezy8769 also racking the action will give away your location

I just purchased a Mossberg 500 with pistol grip, works great. My pistol grip came with the gun.
donnyc806 4 months ago
Storing a shotgun with a round up the spout is not a good idea. A safety is NOT foolproof. A dropped weapon, even with the safety on could, has, and therefore WILL discharge.
MrJPONZ 4 months ago
If the shotgun doesn't scare an intruders away, you could just threaten to eat them.
PowerViolenceForever 4 months ago 5
That is really weird. I have had 2 mossberg 500a and it came with full rifle stock and pistol grip. On both shotguns with the factory pistol grip this never happened. With an after market safety, this never happened. I believe this is a user error.

In the end, the only safety that counts is your index finger.
f35caleb 5 months ago
Mine does not , it also is a pistol grip Mossberg 500 .
ronmagicone 5 months ago

The shell will not eject, but you'll be ready to fire, AFTER THE SOUND.
dljewettabr 5 months ago
@dljewettabr or load the tube and just press the slide release to cock it and actually chamber a round, making the sound.
DystruktoBoi1 5 months ago
@dljewettabr
Just going to say that IS NOT at all how at least these shotguns work. To be honest I have never heard of a single shotgun that could work this way, because well that's just not how they work...You might want to reconsider spreading false info, some idiot might actually listen to you and hurt themselves.....
olchevyman 5 months ago
I agree with your review. The only time i need a safety is when using a different barrel and for hunting where the "sound of loading the chamber" is not suitable.

Ghostginthree 6 months ago
In law enforcement we do keep the chamber without a shell in it for psychological reasons and when we crank one in and point it at the suspects, they know what weapon it is and they mostly comply. I keep mine ready full of rounds and safety on but everything comes to constant practice. I can take that safety off fast and chamber a round but to each his own, just practice the tactical techniques that will keep you safe at home or other. Good video.
Ghostginthree 6 months ago
you are 100% right! i recently installed a folding recoil mako stock and experienced the same thing and more.. my extractor sometimes fails to grab a round and chamber it .

Jaxson0023 6 months ago
my 500 came in pistol-grip only. it had a loose safety that would go "safe" when you needed it "live".
digschopper 7 months ago
This is why I opted for the Maverick model, as it has a standard cross bolt safety on the trigger guard. You also don't have to break your grip, which is something you have to do to use the saftey on the reciever.

justin123456789707 7 months ago
If you keep rounds in the gun, will that cause a stress on the spring in the magazine and eventualy cause it to weaken?
roby14 7 months ago
@roby14 yes and no...yes but your talking long term, what weekens a spring the most is the tension of it being pushed on then released, or use stress...there are pump action shotguns that are stored loaded and work fine after decades...
cutlerylover 7 months ago

FullmetaljacketJ 3 months ago
@roby14 Yeah mines been loaded for almost 2yrs now and it still works fine. Thats old shit! I got a Beretta 92 mag that was loaded with 15batteries. it slipped down into the spare tire well of my car. I found it almost three years later. After I was done shooting all the rounds out of it, i took it apart and the spring was fine.
mlke4258 6 months ago

If it dose something may be damaged internally.
drunkenpumkin 1 year ago
no offense but your stupid you should always keep the safety on one because you seem to know nothing about firearms and because you keep shells in the magazine tube so it should always be kept on and all you have to do to turn it off is push forward

lukep9spanky440 1 year ago
I own that mossberg as well. The problem is most probably with the bolt used for the stock. I bought mine with a pistol-grip, and bought an aftermarket adjustable buttstock. It is easy to see where the problem would be. Put your weapon on safe, send your bolt home, remove your stock and pull the retaining pin on your trigger group assembly. (mine is original parts [plastic]) Slide the safety and then check your bolt length and clearance. Add washers or change the bolt and inspect 4damage.
lukep9spanky440 1 year ago
like the video, well u seem cool but i don't use racking a round as audible deterent to criminals.all that will do is alert them to your location to shoot u.don't depend on putting shell in chamber when needed, slide action can get caught on something,i've had my 500 get caught while hunting.i have a pistol grip but haven't tried the safety for i like full stock, although i do use the 18 1/2 barrel.pistol grip hurts wrist and cannot be aimed at eye level.which is disadvantage when shooting 20yds +.

i mainly got it for skeet shooting..

i think your friends idea of keeping one in the chamber is a better idea. i UNDERSTAND that where you are located is different then where i may be located but i would assume that anybody who KNEW me that decided to enter my house without my consent would be there to do me harm. i do not want to even let this person know that i am aware of their presence untill i can see them before they are even looking for me.

Sblackman07 1 year ago
@Sblackman07 Get a shoulder stock, bud. Recoil is going to be pretty intense with a pistol grip no matter what you do.. Unless you're trying to conceal your gun or use it indoors (around tight spaces) then there truly is no reason to have a pistol grip without a shoulder stock.
Jenult 1 year ago

I own a 500 and I was debating whether or not to install a pistol grip or not. After watching this, I don't think I will be trying that. One other thing, do you know whether or not installing the pistol grip with the butt stock combo suffers from the same defect?
76Stankfinger 1 year ago

@cutlerylover gotta agree with you thats why I have my mossberg,
if not my Ruger gp100 357 mag should be sufficient

@cutlerylover audio warning is fine if done from a place of concealment. Some criminals might respond to the sound by just blindly firing in the direction of the sound.

Thats the only way I'd store a pump action.....safe yet ready. It is a gun for home defense not a mantle piece....boozehound is a moron...Kinda a long clip but it definatly makes sense

When a gun is loaded and not
Locked. There's always a chance
Something
Bad can happen. I'm not willing to take that chance. I live in a
Nice enough
Neighborhood where I don't have to worry about my place being robbed. That's why I keep my guns locked up. But I know how to get to them and load them fast enough
To defend myself in that one in million
Chance.

@Boozehound817 unfortuneately some people dont live in a nice neighborhood.

My mistake. An unattended loaded firearm.

@Boozehound817 hey boozehound ur tooo funny, "
You sir, are an idiot. Watch your
Own video and listen to every word you say.

Who says I don't carry? I'm just saying leaving a firearm unattended in
Your house, is stupid.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
If you don't
Think my point is valid. The don't listen to it. I'm just saying that keeping a firearm loaded is a stupid idea. My shotgun is locked in a case. With a slide lock on it.
Before you use your shotgun on an intruder. Someone will find it and hurt/kill themselves.
How many times have you heard of someone shooting someone on accident. And how many times have you heard someone shooting an intruder.
Boozehound817 1 year ago
@Boozehound817 not that it matters to you but I live alone, and I wont accidentaly shoot myself, on a side note if you live in a household where you cant trrust others there to not play with your gun, than you shoudlnt own guns, period, locked up or not, unless your talking about kids, thats different, lastly I hope you never have a problem and need your gun, you wotn be able to get to it on time
cutlerylover 1 year ago 13
@Boozehound817 you shoudl watch ym other videos, I carry a pistol loaded on me everywhere I go, the mall the stores fast food palces ect, I AM in public with you and your family thousand of us are, one day you may have to thank us, OR you may have to run from us, either way you wont have the option to fight back if you dont carry
cutlerylover 1 year ago 9
@cutlerylover i agree with you a have my firearms loaded all the time. i think tho thts its our responsability to teach others around us how to hande guns, ie. children, friends whatever. casue the one time some dude wlkas in and you dont have those extra 5 seconds. thn ur screwed.
iagui004 1 year ago
@cutlerylover Be thankful you don't live in California. You won't be able to do that if you did. I have to carry mine openly and unloaded. We have to be a little more strategic-minded if we had to become involved in a firefight.
TheWitnesserer 1 year ago
Just one little alternative I'd like to suggest.

@Boozehound817
In the event that an intruder comes

..into your home, you need to be able to respond as quickly as possible.

Str8OuttaOakbrook 1 year ago
@Boozehound817 Those someones that shoot other people on accident are children fucking around with adult shit. If you are an adult and keep your gun loaded then you are not taking propper precaution in keeping it put up somewhere that either A - children dont know about or B - they cant get too. I myself keep my gun out of reach of children and unloaded but I have a couple rounds close by that no one knows about.
DThompson1985 1 year ago
@Boozehound817 oh also if you rack the gun with nothing in it the slide lock has to be pushed before it can be racked again so you can rack it, put shells in the magazine and then it wont be able to be loaded until you hold down the slide lock and rack it again which is a very
