  • Is this really Lou Reed singing?

  • @akisboyatzis No, It´s John Cale in this version.

  • Sounds a little Doors-like influence, but more freaked out. I like this version of this song.

  • such a...chill..

  • Lou Reed sounds alot like John Cale here. Lol jk

  • @TheNEWfilmfanatic99 Well yeah I guess. But that is because it IS John Cale in this version of the song. God I love this!

  • Anyone who knows where i download THIS version of the song?!?! I NEED IT!!

  • @htsand go to filsh.net. you can convert youtubes to mp3 files and then download them. a useful site.

like the slower Cale version huh? kinda more haunting

  • RESPECT.TOP JUNKIES.DECENT ! ! ! E.F.C.

  • this is awesome. check out the Hellfire Social music video....

  • cale singing - not lou

  • sounds like a bad acid trip

  • i think it was

  • wow, never thought id get to see Gerard do the "whip dance". great stuff.

John Cale's live album "Circus" has him doin "Venus" and although theres no other velvet's playin, him and his band play a righteous version of it.

  • fuck the dancers. cale can sing!

  • I think that in a past life I was there. I always get really nostalgic listening to this song, despite not having been born yet.

  • I know just what you mean!

  • @chandru1103 Someone could've very easily listened to it with you around in some early morning memory association you don't fully recall. A trained psychologist or psychiatrist could explain your feelings pretty easily.

By the way, I believe in reincarnation, but having to debate the issue often in my line of work so to speak... I would respectfully point out you should avoid using that story to convince anyone who doesn't already believe.

Hope I don't sound like an ass :(

  • love it

  • This is one of my favourite songs of all time!

  • this is awesome!

  • i am hipnotized!!!

  • Great

  • pretty cool man , thanks

  • gerard and andrea in action.

the more "venus in furs"es i hear with cale on vox, the more i wish they'd done it that way on the LP...

  • I'm gonna have to disagree...although cale is a good vocalist, especially on this song, and he does a better job these days vocally, back on the original LP Reeds vocals gave me chills.

  • thaaaaank yooou!

  • Id like to take this and put the album audio on.. wait a minute! Ill just open an extra tab!! AHAHAHA!!

    Damn Im high..............

  • I like the hypnotic guitar play.

  • I should watch this stoned ;)

  • I also love the version of the Ludlow Street sessions in 1965, which can be found on the Peel slowly And See cd box set.

John Cale sings like a mintrel singer there.

  • This movie is cool , but I just wish they would've focused on the band more.

  • pfff, well it's a live, low quality recording. What do you expect?

  • John Cale on vocals instead of Lou, makes it interesting, I'm such a fan, I love it all

  • i agree and i like this song normally

  • i'm in love.

  • really neat.. I was thinking of the vu concert I saw in my hometown in 89 but I have a blurred memory.. as my brain works.. but the whole concert felt like a dream... remember eye contact with moe tucker but not much... lou was seen in the morning in the main square of Bologna, writing notes, alone.. it was only 20 years before... i mean in the 80's the sixties seemed, for me, round the corner even i was born in that period.... sorry for blabbing - great vid

  • I like this version better than the one with Lou Reed. It feels much more sinister and Cale doing vocals definetly adds to that

  • beautiful video.

i think this is a hapening to all our senses.

andy warhol is a great creator too.

    antonio

  • NICO

  • are this a demo?

why the video look like syd period of pink floyd?

  • they were all kind of intertwined

  • how this come?

    tis cale on vocal!

  • best velvet underground song

  • this version is so tasty....for my ears!!!

  • wow ... its john cale singing not Lou .. strange

  • wow..I never heard this before...love it..thanks for posting!

  • this is an incredible retro song!!!thx for uploader!!!

  • edie sedwick ?

  • aha aha

  • such a decadent trip.. brr!

    i've always loved this film

  • aaa

  • this is called...

  • this is called vifg:)

  • is that edie being told to bend down further sexy hot

  • what?

  • Yes, that is Cale singing.

  • Is that Cale singing?

  • Venus in furs, one of my favourite songs! I really like the sound of this live version too. And the video as well. Exploding Palstic Inavitable! What a trip! I would have been on the stage with them... holding a whip

  • If somebody knows of any actual video/audio footage of VU, please respond to this...

  • The beat is better.

  • exactally

  • The guy in the leather pants holding the whip is Gerard Malanga. The woman with short blond hair looks like Ingrid Superstar. I guess that means the woman with long hair is Nico.

  • I saw them at the Fillmore in SFO on tour in 1966. They were co-billed with The Mothers of Invention, who I guess was the only other equally weird band Bill Graham could think of (The Byrds were considered avant garde at the time).

  • wow this sounds WAY different from the original. I like it though

  • wow - so rare, a live cut of this song. They were SO amazing live. Lou Reed was always a trip in this band, so extreme to this day. I don't know how many times I saw them... 10, 15? at the Boston Tea Party on Berlekey Street. They were always amazing.

  • I heard Led Zepplin played at the tea-party- Did you see them?

  • I saw Zeppelin in Denver in 1970. At the Berkeley St. Tea Party I used to sit in the balcony near the light show guys. I saw Hallucinations (Peter Wolf's act before J. Geils), The Velvets (a lot), Bonzo Dog Band, tons of other bands... At Lansdown St Tea Part I saw The Who, Beautiful Day, The Flock, more... it's a blur. The Velvets were so weird, but so good...

  • I r jealous!!!

  • It is always hard to understand things of the past! If you could see what the Roman Empire was like you would freak out! But this was a time of peace and end to violence.

  • it all looks so silly in retrospect

  • that was becuase john cale could play the organ aswell so thats probably an eerly take of it

  • This is because the clip is from a 1966 show in Chicago were Lou was to sick to play for a few dates

  • This was apart of Andy Warhol's personal video art when he was experimenting with film as art. Its a fantastic clip *for its time* the visual with the lyrics. Very surreal and from a artistic point of view shockingly different!

  • Andy did make a film of the Velvet Underground, but it's in black and white, this isn't it. You can find it elsewhere on youtube.

  • Why does cale vocal necessarily mean no viola? He can do both at the same time when he wants

  • like punkace says, it sounds like organ rather than viola to me. not sure why. not a crit of cale, love him! i can't play guitar and sing at the same time, after 20 yrs of playing...;-(

  • the song is based on the book 'venus in furs' by Leopold von Sacher-Masoch.

  • it's about sadomaschiasm

  • The studio version with Reed on vocals an Cale on violin is far better.

  • One of the reasons why there are only a few VU fans I suppose is their extremely strange weird style.....

  • yeah...the siong is about drugs and prevertion

  • no, this song is about a book of the same name...it involves an englishman moving to france and getting involved with a dominatrix, listen to the lyrix and you can tell. it's a good book, you should read it.

  • thanks, i know that it is a name of a book, but i think the sound of the music is something hipnotic, and reminds when you're stoned...i know the book but never read it...thanks for the sugestion;)

  • This song is way too good to be experienced on drugs.

  • hooray for drugs

  • yeah well, get too deep you wake up with your fucking life behind you-a sad thing, trust me

  • fredjhenzel

  • I don't trust you

  • I don't either.

  • lou was sick. hepatitis. there are many bootlegs of this performance available. cale sang "i'm waiting for my man" that night too. i think it smokes.

  • Oh yeh? Great!! Let me know the name of this Bootleg please.

  • Orange Disaster is the name of the vinyl bootleg I have the Cale vocals show on.

  • word. reed sounds incredible on track i prefer LP version .

  • scuse me, word is the Bootleg version?

  • it's john cale on vocals - why, idon't know - perhaps mr.reed was not up to singing on this live performance - anyone have any info?

  • I believe he was in hospital at the time receiving treatment for a STD

  • @Joeninety22222 hmm that's odd I heard form some where at one pont near death he admitted he was a virgin. People would try to get close to them but he wouldn't let them.

  • @Mennismervice joe was referring to lou reed i believe, who is about as much a virgin as he was a teetotaler

  • jezz.. that is a real art!

  • That's definitely not Reed on vocals. Still, it's ok but nothing beats the album version. Best song ever, I'd say.

  • hey, i used to be in a band called boomhauer! funny. john cale's unmistakeable welsh camp on vocals....means there's no viola, which is a pity...

  • I think he's playing organ rather... idk why. He sang and played viola on alot of songs and actually plays this song live playing viola now.

  • yeah,it definately is Reed on vocals...?

  • no it's Cale..

  • cale

  • wot a disgusting cover version. u really can't improve on perfection so why even bother? wannabes especially rubbish ones make me feel sick.

  • wht are you talking about man?correct me if i'm wrong but it looks like your saying this is a cover version????are you fucking stoned man?this is A LIVE PERFORMANCE of v.u in some andy warhol party.wake up dude

  • F#CKIN LOVE IT

  • lolz.... why doesnt anyone ever mention the movie 'Belle de Jour' when they talk about this song...

  • man this song is a sadist anthem..video is really good man..it looks like a l.s.d trip man.i jus cant comprehend tht how d fuk they're not in top bands or 500gr8st songs?i rate these people with floyd for their progressive tendencies n breakthroughs..its a shame the're not given their proper due.

  • I'll rate them in my top 5, that's for sure.

  • right on man..thts where real place lies in any so called poll..stones,Beatles,floyd,led zep..velvet underground.watch d all 2morrows parties vid of nico..man its good.

  • i couldn't agree more.

  • for me, "venus in furs" ranks with "kashmir" and "comfortably numb" as one of those chilling, otherworldly classics that sounds as new and revolutionary now as the day it was released. velvet underground's massive influence alone on indie rock over the last 40 years has to put them in the 10 all-time best. for me, they're at the top.

  • They invented Alternative Rock. That alone should summarize their influence. Sterling Morison cited this song in-particuler as what everything from punk to metal to indie to experamental to anything else stems from.

  • Sure helps define psychedelic sound of the 60's!

  • best velvet underground song
