God's love in Jesus Christ the true Savior of the world for all who will call on him - all I can think of when I hear this beautiful song. So glad He saved me when I was 16 years old.
Great film and amazing song, I almost forgott, how sounds good old grunge voice. Does anybody know, if this song is on any album from Pearl Jam. I found it just as a singl.
Reign Over me is my absolute favorite movie that has ever been made. I can almost cry everytime I watch it. This song by both bands is just.. Simply.. Amazing.
@mikawhofan I was confused watching the ending of the movie cause I was hearing this song for the very first time and madly wanted to know WHO was singing it and they say on the credits "The Who" so I thought it was them singing it at the ending of it...I know they've written it and its their track but I need to know who is singing it at the ending credits of the movie cause it's totally amazing
@fatboy, I couldn't disagree more. I loved The Who and Im damn near religious about PJ. The raw emotion in it makes the song transcend music to another level you can only feel
@1172SHINE The Who were one of the best rock bands ever....it's no wonder so many rock bands of today do remakes of their songs. Vedder did a good job, but Daltrey is the master of this song.
Well Done ... one of the best covers, and truest to the original that I've ever heard ... Roger Daltrey does it better though, seeing as he "gave birth" to it and all ...
okay honestly this is good. i didn't think pearl jam could knock it out of the park but hello stupid me ya got Eddie who can hit those like Pete. but Jimi Hendrix is still number 1 too me. too bad we don't have a machine that could combine certain things from who ever you liked into one really awesome person
@LVCDR I would never call The Who underrated... they're still a rock phenom as is Perl Jam, The Who sells out the largest venues every where they go, as does Perl Jam... I think it's just true rock in general that is underrated these days.
It's called 'feeling' and the world will try to stamp it out of you young or old. Don't let it. What God would make a human apologize for their feelings? None. But God knows people will.
I think that Eddie Vedder is the only one who can really make me feel the song he's performing.. his voice is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard... and the Pearl Jam is my one fav band sooo ... LOVE IT!! :))
Does it really matter which one is "better"? The Who are Eddie's favorite band, and Quadrophenia his favorite album, and this cover is a testament to that fact.
Who knows which is best? All I know is this is the right version for the Adam Sandler movie. I lost friends in 9-11 and I could never grieve until I heard this song.
I don't know why but when I heard this song I feel a burst of pain, coming from the bottom of my soul who just want to get out! I feel how my heart is breaking in to pieces... I really dont know why, I think I'm messed up, big time!!
@ju1cycrackfa1ry If you know anything about Eddie Vedder, you would know that he worships the ground The Who walks on, (read Rolling Stone's most recent Top 100 Artists Issue). This song is his tribute to them, and his performance of it is absolutely humble. However, the scope of human emotion covered in PJ's version far outdoes The Who's. Furthermore, Eddie Vedder, as an artist, shows so much more creativity, talent, and soul than Roger Daltrey ever did. Eddie Vedder has no comparison.
i not a pearl jam fan and i think that the who are gods. that said i want to let you know that this is a brilliant cover, really brilliant. most covers are shit - merely playing the original harder, faster, louder. no one needs them ( HI green day !! ). but then there are the good ones : when you feel a bands love for a song ( like i do here ) and when something really new is created - listen to the twilight singers version of "when doves cry". for me THE cover.
@ManfromEarth2010 that's one of the highlights in the movie... I thought adam only can be comedien, but he was so emotional in this movie... he's a awesome and amazing person
im digging pearl jam more, he sings it like a woman just killed his heart... theres more emotion but both singers are crazy talented, soo i guess i dont really have a preferance
You all are listening just the voice... but what about the instruments? IMO Pearl Jam's version is much more strong... it gives me much more of everything... U should count that Eddie sang this when he was 43... roger was 29...
i have only just got past the first chorus and i think he has done brilliant with the vocals considering they are 2 completely different singers it is a very good attempt
one of a lot of pearl jam's cover which is a little bit more interesting than the original versions of any band. maybe more contemporary, maybe more suitable to my taste... the who has something which i don't understand. maybe i'm too young. but to sum up... i prefer pj's version to the the who's.
I think Roger and Eddie both put more or less the same amount of heart into this song. Actually, I think this is one of The Who's most heartfelt songs in my opinion. But Roger's screams are definitely better at the end of the day. Eddie can't scream as well. So I've gotta say The Who's version edges out a bit for me. Even though overall I'm a bigger Pearl Jam fan.
@HELLtoTHEnoWAY - Robert Plant, Chris Cornell, Myles Kennedy, Freddy Mercury, Steve Perry, Geoff Tate, James Labrie, Sabastian Bach, Phil Aneselmo, Russel Allen, David Lee Roth --- "Who" else?? hmm.....oh right Roger Daltrey :) ---- no disrespect to Eddie, but he screams on his A's --- let alone D's
When you are listening to music, you feel the time it's been played - if we compare 'Love, reign over me' of Pearl Jam and The Who - it's very different:)
The first time I heard this was on a VH1 re-run of the original performance. Was housecleaning at the time and had the show as background. This performance stop my cleaning and left me in an emotional stuper like that of the best drug run ever...SIMPLY AWESOME! The who may have wrote it and deserves top honors, but Pearl Jam touched my soul with it. So hats off to them both!!
@meanmugfan thats like saying yes and no to a yes or no question, Roger Daltrey sings the actual notes better, but Eddie puts soooo much more heart into it, even tho his pitch may be off sometime, and his screams are pretty rough and crude, it has so much heart in it so ill go with Eddies version, but only by a nose
