  • Easier way is to just import that Google Exported file to the web-icloud portal.

  • Was there not once a switch on the phone in settings to sync my Google contacts? I checked my Google account on my PC and i have contacts listed in my account that I created a few months ago. Why is there an option for Yahoo and not Google to sync the contacts? I'm trying to get away from Yahoo

  • I already imported using exchange method. Can I now use your method? When I add a contact will it be automatically sent to the cloud or do I have to re-sync? And lastly, how about my gmail calendar? Thanks.

  • @kmhudson3 you can turn off the exchange method in your mail/contacts options. once finished you will be in sync with icloud. working on gmail calendar method

  • Thanks for this. Question: If you want to continually sync between your Google Contacts and your Iphone, do you need to leave contacts turned off with I-Cloud and just sync every few days with Google Contacts through I-tunes?

  • Very helpful if you want to move contacts one time from Gmail to iCloud and you have a MAC. I have a PC and exactly one Apple device, an iPhone. This video says if you want to use exchange and get gmail contacts that way, watch another video. But how do I know which method to use when and why? I want a general overview of how this all works, it is very confusing to me.

  • @UscholdM sorry your confused. this is to move from gmail to icloud. which many apple fans find helpful. the exchange method is old and totally works to stay with google contacts. this is a new method to get people off google contacts and on to icloud. sorry your confused let me know if u need anything.

  • @macmixing Thanks. Most of all it would be helpful for a 2-3 page document that explains the big picture for people with different needs. Failing that, there are lots of small questions. One is: how come when I search my contacts and find one, I cannot edit it, but it asks me if I want to save the contact. WTF? I found the contact searching the contacts, so what sense can it possibly make to ask me if I want to save it as a contact? Clearly the word 'contact' has multiple meanings.

  • @UscholdM lol my job isnt to explain every detail. it worked for the other 20,000 people. im good with that.

  • @macmixing You asked if I needed anything - so I asked. I'm very grateful for what I learned from you already. Thanks.

  • So helpful! Didn't want to sit here and transfer all of my contacts manually. Thanks so much

  • @BeautyzTM glad I could help ya!

  • @Vinn3333 Awesome thanks

  • @macmixing, look forward to if you do. Thanks!

  • how about syncing your contacts from the iphone to gmail contacts?

  • @Vinn3333 different method. maybe in the future ill make one on that

  • Good job.

  • @tonyyba thank u

  • i just got an ipad 2 and i enabled i cloud. it synced all my stuff except mail and notes. even after i enabled it on both my iphone and my ipad it still didn't work. what am i doing wrong?

  • @aria64mm well this method will onyl work to sync your contacts to icloud. nothing else use exchange if you want mail and notes on your phone

  • Top man. Good advice - no hassle. Great stuff

  • @nsheridan0 thank you! thanks for watching

  • I must be doing something wrong. Couple questions for you.

When I turn off contacts in iCloud account it asked me if I want to delete them or keep them on my phone. I said "keep". Should I have deleted them. Also, I have an Exchange account set up on my phone (I want to get rid of) should I have deleted that as well?

  • @kellyjaros just follow the steps. as far as the exchange account goes you have to remove that under your accounts section.

  • Thank you! This worked perfectly for me :) Especially since I had a iPhone 3G without iCloud :/

  • @JonnyTheTanMan awesome!!! glad I could help!

  • Excellent! Great help, took 2 minutes the whole process... Thanks!

  • @mdamatas AWESOME! Thank you for watching! Glad to help you out!

  • very nicely done! Solves the most prevalent problem simply!

  • @RLeeWII Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad this worked for you! Please Subscribe!

  • How is this synchronizing your contacts? To me it just looks like you exported them. If you make a change on gmail.com, your contacts are not synchronized with iCloud.

  • @milesbossons it does not say sync in the title. there is no way possible to sync across all platforms this is a one time sync to icloud. i mearly demonstrate how to get your google contacts to icloud. because many people that finally made the switch needed this option. Thanks for watching :-)

  • @milesbossons obviously listening isnt your strong point :-)

  • you answered about 10 questions I had about iCloud - great video, thanks.

  • @bltysonjr awesome!! Thanks for watching!

  • this was great it worked .. I went to The Apple store and they said I had to come back with my old 3g phone and show me how to do it... this saved my lots of steps 'thanks again your great Josi

  • @licari1000 no problem!! Glad I could help!

  • Agree about shutting off iCloud sync... but you can do this MUCH easier. Simply setup your Gmail as a Exchange server, the contacts will autosync without iTunes. Shutting off iCloud was the piece I was missing.

  • @studio472 Yea but that defeats the purpose. some people want to switch over completely from google. we all know about the exchange method. but most of these people wanted to get away from google storing their informaiton

  • @macmixing I suppose the conspiracy theorists would agree with that. Thanks for the video though.

  • @studio472 lol it might sound that way... but also remember the millions of people that jumped ship on android to get an iphone. It's just the next step for them switching everything over.

  • THANKS!

  • @chris770 Your Welcome!

  • I just did this and it worked, except for one thing. I like to keep my contacts in groups the way I have them in Gmail. When I synced with Google, the groups were not imported. Also I see no way to make groups in iCloud. Does iTunes/iCloud not support groups?

  • @oddfielder I don't think iCloud will support Googles groups at this time.

  • It's worth noting a good reason to do this is because iCloud contacts work better with Siri. I was not able to get Siri to remember who my parents were without switching to iCloud

  • @TechKnight07 oh well im glad you got it working. Siri is GREAT!

  • I am just wondering how I sync the other way around -- that is sync my iCloud contacts to GMail. To explain, my contacts are perfect on my iPhone and they are synced with iCloud, but I can't get them from my GMail. So, I want to be able to see my iCloud contacts in my GMail contacts. Can that be done?

  • @patgrhm you cannot currently "sync" icloud to gmail completely. sorry if i figure out how though ill make a video!

  • I had to figure this out on my own, but I'm giddy to see that I'm no dummy when it comes to this stuff. Great thorough video. I just explained this same process in MacRumors and found this afterwards. Oh well. If you have a great idea, it's probably already been thought of... :)

  • @DaveCondie Hey well at least you got it done right? thanks for watching! I appreciate it.

  • omg thanks sooo much!!!

  • @SuperJiggababy you are so welcome!

  • Brilliant - you just saved me hours of irritation!

  • Thank you so much!!! I have been trying to figure this out for a while because I wanted to setup a group list on my phone for mass texting. This did the trick. Your Awesome!!! Happy Halloween!!!

  • @lgrico1 THANK YOU! you too!

  • Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @lwall3 your welcome!!!!!!!!!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH IM GOING TO CALL YOU ICLOUD CONTACT SYNC-ER MAN!!!!

  • @chickennwrap98 awesome I love that name! :-)

  • If you have a Mac running Lion: just add your iCloud account to Address Book in Mac OS Lion after you've synced with or imported your Google Contacts.

  • Fantastic Video !!!!!!!!!!!! i cannot express my gratitude!

  • @Poetic0574 thank you so much and thanks for watching please sub! :-)

  • awesome video, thanks a lot, worked perfect!

  • @mcous07 thank you! thanks for watching!

  • Great video! Very helpful!

  • @knimhoff your welcome!

  • This is a one time transfer, not a true sync.... Anyone out there that has a solution that will keep apple iCloud contacts in sync with google contacts?

  • @jorrflv its impossible at this point to TRUELY sync them. because on iPhone you cannot sync across three platforms like that.why would you want to keep google around anyhow.

  • @jorrflv If you follow the steps in the video, make sure you turn "contacts" sync on in your iPhone preferences for both your gmail account and iCloud. Then when you view/edit "all contacts" they should be "Unified Info".

Assuming you are running Mac OSX Lion, already have iCloud set up, and are already syncing Google contacts at least on your iPhone (possibly Address Book on your computer as well) import Google contacts vcard to Address Book on your mac, and then add iCloud as an account.

  • I did everything you did but itunes also transferredthe computer's address book contacts to the iphone along with my gmail contacts. Also my gmail has now picked up the address book contacts. Is there a way to pick up just the gmail contacts?

  • @ccrsn1 you have have set it to sync the address book contacts

  • well done dude, that was a great solution, nice lateral thinking

  • @QuickFingersGames thank you! thanks for watching!

  • How come when you use iMessage then you can barely text anyone

  • @SKAT3RB0Y4987 thats only if they have imessage also

  • Thanks mate, needed this! I have defected from android over to Apple so needed contacts crossing over one time, and your method was painless! Thanks again! :)

  • @spark001uk no problem!!

  • thanks !!!

  • @dauzn ur welcome!

  • This is an awesome tutorial!!!! I was going nutz with this problem! Thanks! +1 subscriber

  • @tonyf80 Awesome glad I could help you!

  • I have my iphone synced via exchange for google contacts so that I can also get my mail and calendar. Will that interfere with the way you showed to sync in this video?

  • @jennlaine4 if you want your contacts in icloud you must turn them off under exchange or it will cause duplicates of contacts. :-) thanks for watching!

  • You helped me alot. I had iPhone contacts, google contacts, iPad contacts. Now they are finally happy together ))

  • @Ramedine awe how sweet! lo l thanks for watching!

  • hey is it possible to do the opposite ? backing contacts from iCloud or another Apple Contacts source to Google account ?

  • @aekixx if you want to do that, make sure "Address Book" on your mac has your contacts within it, then sync Address Book with Google (under the settings on address book). Bam! lol Thanks!

  • Hey thank you very much!! It worked and it was very easy, great tutorial!!

  • @montyhades no problem!!!

  • Thanks for this!!!

  • @AustinKing09 Your welcome Thank you for watching! please subscribe :-)
