Single payer will empower the patient to choose his physicians and the hospitals he desires to go to. Competition will improve health care. Republicans have usually supported bills that encourage competition, but not this one. Why? They have been lobbied by the special interest groups who have given them significant contributions. They are our elected representatives who are beholding more to the special interests than to their constituents.
