  • Can someone tell me if i can upgrade from OS X Tiger (ver. 10.4.11) to OS X snow Leopard. do i have to already have OS X leopard installed or can i just upgrade it without Leopard. Since OS X Leopard is not sold by apple anymore

  • do i actually need to put all my files on a harddrive. will the upgrade delete all my files?

  • will it work on my Apple G4 tower computer? i know it is old, but can i upgrade it or is is cheaper to buy a new one?

  • Could I install this on any machine, or only a Macintosh? If I put together my own computer or just partitioned my hard drive on a Windows, would the installation disc work?

  • @khoraski Mac Only, sorry.

  • forgot to mention i have a mac mini with 2g. of ram will it work ?

  • i dont have the install disc but i do have the .dmg file will it work as a DVD ?

  • PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION!!

When I upgrade, because I like movie editing, will it change to imovie 11? please tell me it does!

  • Is it possible to update from 10.5.8 to Lion?

I have a CD i got with my MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard on it, but I don't know if I can upgrade my regular MacBook with that same CD... What do you think?

  • So my friend has upgraded to Snow Leopard (now Lion, but anyway) so does what you said mean that I would be able to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard with his disc that he has already used before?

    Please reply :P

  • I've been trying to upgrade to snow leopard for the past 2 days, and it's turning out to be very frustrating, the computer itself is working totally normal, and it meets all the requirements to be able to upgrade to snow leopard but when I put the disc in to install snow leopard it will go for a little while up to a certain point, eject itself, and restart. I check to see if it worked and it's still running leopard. I did everything it asked me to do. Any ideas of what's going wrong?

  • will the apps stay in the laptop if you update it?

  • @haiqal2u yeah.

  • How can I upgrade from 10.6.3 to 10.6.7 or the most current version?

  • if you are still using tiger.. you probably are better off on a pc. lol

  • Some non mainstream printers are not supported for snow leopard 10.6

Check before upgrading that the drivers are available for your printer ....I didnt , now I have a printer that wont work.

  • what are os files

  • ma new video: free

    /watch?v=M30R4IXjTpE

  • oh for anyone interested...you can boot up from an usb flash with the Disc image of the install disc(retail) by copying it on the empty HD and then it boots from there I had several tries with just the usb flash but having it on the HD physically ,actually made it work Sadly the retail disc doesn't have the extensive apps like garageband and other things and you will have to dig in your pocketbook to get these

  • I love the Tiger its so clean and the polished silver look and everything worked so smooth but a family member got that one and I have an i3 4gig memory DDR3 with snow leopard pre installed .It might look snazzy but the iLibrary upgrade sucks and that bing pooping up on iTunes is positively irritating I am back installing Tiger again hehehe and everyone thinks I'm crazy

  • Uhhhhh Do you Hate Microsoft? cuz most Mac Users Do

  • how much ram does your comp have?

  • @Wintoneak5 @9:02 you can see his RAM, it says 4 GB RAM

  • how do i know if im already running snow leopard is their anyway to tell? i got my mac in december of 2009 was it already preinstalled or...?

  • @bch190 Click on the  on the top left corner. Then click on "About this Mac." There should be a set of numbers like mine says 10.5.8, which is Leopard. If you have the numbers 10.6 in there, the you have Snow Leopard installed on your Mac.

  • So i have the G5 with Tiger 10.4.11 so if i want to install snow leopard i can just buy it and install it?

  • i love you "longest minute ive ever waited".... always happens to me lol

  • When it takes long to boot afte the upgrade, on a Mac it´s just loading all your files to the right location

  • what if you don't know the key lock password?

  • Thanks bud that helped a lot... Great tutorial ;)

  • My MacBook Pro has Mac OS X 10.5.8 as a server. Would it be possible if I can upgrade it to Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard?

  • I have mac OS X 10.4.11 and they say it'll install just fine. Sadly it spits out a few seconds later. I do have everything needed, is there something I'm missing?

  • @thehawk34 happens to me too :(

  • @MaRMaRx92x Well, to all those who say it'll work just fine without the package deal, your wrong. You can't just buy the snow leopard CD, unless you have leopard already.

  • @thehawk34 well your wrong because i had tiger 10.4.11 and i bought the snow leopard cd today and i just installed it without problems now i have version 10.6.3 =)

  • @thehawk34 and i used a external disk drive since the one on my macbook kept ejecting the disc out, and it installed perfectly fine

  • it's not that expensive to get off amazon i got it for 30$ for my friends birthday

  • and if you have bootcamp partition? can i upgrade from leopard to snow ...?

    or bootcamp will be deleted?

  • @cristianviola93

No, bootcamp will remain the same because snow leopard is only replacing the OS files but all your settings, files, apps, preferences and accounts remain the same, i have a Mac Pro and just installed Snow Leopard and the only thing that changed is that it´s faster, smaller and more stable

  • I upgraded to Snow Leopard today, and before i did that I had 75 GB free space on the hard drive. Now I have 95 GB. ._.

  • Does the SL work better then ur previous operating system or did u have problems nice video btw

  • I have a question, if i install this on my mac os X 1.5.8, will it delete all my files? or will it just upgrade and keep my files?(photos, apps, msn ALL the stuff)

PLEASE answer me, if you do, i'll subscribe

  • @Rafayuteh All your files/apps/etc will remain intact. The only thing that will change are your OS files.

  • @therevivedone Thank you, and where (in the inernet) can i get this software? did you downloaded it? if you did, please give me the link.

  • @Rafayuteh just search dowload torrent Snow leopard build 10A432...I think is better with torrents, I use Transmission. Hope work for you!

  • @therevivedone hey, i bought an imac installed with Snow Leopard already, but it came with the Snow Leopard disc. Could i use this Snow Leopard disc that i got from the imac on my macbook that is running on Leopard?

  • @therevivedone PLEASE HELP ME! I KNOW I SOUND LIKE AN IDIOT BUT DO YOU PUT THE DISC IN THE MAC WITH THE WHITE SNOW LEPORD FACING UP OR FACING DOWN! PLEASE HELP ME!

    IF YOU DO, I'LL SUBSCRIBE

  • nice vid dude!

  • hey can you download mac os x software on a pc?

  • @coolfreak1mannan : nop .. operating systems ...

  • Everyone probably knows this already, but Snow Leopard calculates disk capacity differently. It counts by base 10. At about 2:28 into the video it says your hard drive capacity is 232.44 GB, but at 9:11, it says the capacity is 249.58 GB.

  • ok good because i have tiger and i want to upgrade

  • Will it delete my apps??

i dont want to do this cause im afraid if i do

my apps which lets say are maybe pirated... maybe...

will not work after upgrade is this true!?!

  • the legally obtained apps won't but not sure about those that weren't. also make sure you let it get the updates because 10.6.1 had some minor glitches.

  • @BlankMessageTV why don't you make an backup DVD with your apps and all the files that go with it and then import later.Just remember where all the important stuff goes like make a list..Some things Don't work with Snow leopard like the Quick time Pro and I am still crying just make sure the version of the software is compatible

  • it saves that much space most probably because you have a lot ppc code in your mac,in snow leopard it's intel only

  • i tell u wat happened snow leopard deleted all ur files lol

  • will snow leopard delete your files or will it just upgrade the previous software version?

  • @Sl3yer1o7 It will just upgrade your version. Like all operating systems, there are advanced install options, but you literally just need to put in the CD, double click the icon, and click "Install".

  • Comment removed

  • No lol the reason they don't have serials is because they can check if it's really a macbook... No need for otherwise... The mobos on macs have a special chip which OS X scans for before booting.

  • just asking here but im getting this for my bday in a week and i have a 10.4.11 tiger macbook and im wondering if i should buy the Mac Box Set or just the Snow Leopard CD. Please Help Anyone.

  • does it delete your data?

  • actually it is 6-7 but when you download you get more then just the upgrade.

    you get:

information and a little welcome video ... which should be 100 - 150 mb or more / less

it also checks your application if it needs som changes wit the SL OS.

as the info says this is running as a 64 bit . :D

  • why are you saying that you have to make sure, that you have a backup, but then later in the video you say, all data will not be deleted?

  • Yes he is, but you should have a back up just incase something in the installation goes wrong.

  • i know this is late but where can i get that background from?

  • Apple doesn't waste time with serials because they don't care if people pirate OS X. They make money off of their hardware, not their OS sales.

  • Apple were very conservative with their 7 GB freed estimate. everyone I've seen is experiencing at least 10-12 GB free.

  • Cool video...that's great that 14GB was saved after installation. Looking forward to installing Snow Leopard

  • hy please can u give a link to your wallpaper??? thnx

  • thats a nice background where'd you get it

  • Amazing, dude!!!!

  • so u r saying i can use 1 disc for 2 macs

  • You can install it in 100 macs if you want it. apple don't mind if is installed in different macs. the only problem is when you are using it in a hackintosh or you download it from the internet that makes it illegal. as long is a mac and you buy an original copy you can install it in as many mac are available.

  • Can u revert back to 10.5 if u have time machine back up? Just in case it doesn't work out. They should replace that stupid song with a clip of a real Snow Leopard.

  • Just installed it (okay yesterday evening) and the same thing happened...disk space has grown to 159GB and free space from 7GB to 16GB.

    Only Apple knows why..

  • hyyy can you give me a link to your wallpaper?:D

  • You didn't gain 14 GB disk space, you lost nearly 3 GB.

    170.31 GB used with Leopard.

172.67 GB used after Snow Leopard install.

I don't know why your disk space jumps from 232.44 GB to 249.58 GB. But I'll check back after my Snow Leopard install.

  • that is because apple change the style of reading the bytes.

  • Leopard use to use a different base count for reading the hard drive. They solved it and corrected it with Snow Leopard

  • i have bootcamp installed on my macbook pro. is it okay if i upgade it to snow leopard? will i lose any data? i dont want to backup everything.

  • Am switching from tiger 10.4.7 directly to Snow Leopard. Hopefully no hiccups because i didn't back my shit up at all. Yikes! I have the required space and ram. I'll keep my fingers crossed and everyone posted. Word...

  • Did It work ok, Did you just do the upgrade or a clean install

  • So far so good, it seems kinda slow at the moment i don't really know why. I think i may want to upgrade the ram up from 1gb. But it's got me wondering... Is there a cap to the limit of the amount of ram you can get? If not i'll slap a 4gb on it! Any ideas? CPU is 2.16 ghz Intel Duo.

  • 4 GB is just fine, but use two 2GB Ram parts, it's cheaper than one 4GB..

  • yo man i wanna do the same, tell me how it goes. good luck!

  • See akaYu07's page. The install went swimmingly!

  • what camera do you have? the quality is pretty good i think

  • Can I reuse my snow leopard installation disk on another computer

  • you whole capacity of your hdd has grown from 232,44 to 549,58 GB That's why you got more space

  • You meant 232.44 GB an 249.58 GB of disk capacity...this means you didn't gain 14 GB disk space, you lost nearly 3 GB.

    170.31 GB used with Leopard.

172.67 GB used after Snow Leopard install.

  • my mac rules lol its a imac 20inch core 2 duo 2gb ddr3 had it new with tiger on when leapord was released installed taht now installed snow leapord and its like ive bough it new woooooooooooooooo

  • Are you saying that we can do a clean install for Tiger on Snow Leopard or we can do an upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard.

  • Apple took out the PPC code in 10.6 so thats why it takes less space

  • o yeah... never thought of that... :D

  • LOL, and I think why 10.3 was smaller as they took out the old world Chip code out, (beige power mac) (orignal ibook)

  • very informative video. thank you Im planning to install leopard on tuesday! cant wait..

  • Thanks for your video.

When are you gonna post the clean install video?

  • So when I do the Upgrade Install, like you did, all my applications will still be there when I'm done?

  • im so glad you posted the video... that means i can share my disk with my friend..... great vid

  • Of course you can, but remember that the agreement says that you can only install it on one machine. If you plan to share it with someone else, make sure you buy another license (another box) after installing it : ) .

  • there is a serial # like below said, click on Version 10.6 and you'll get the build #, click again you'll get serial #

  • assuming that you installed the retail upgrade to Snow Leopard, if you go to "About This Mac", you showed the version (10.6), could you be so kind to check the Build number? If you click on the version field it will change right away and show probably something like: Build 10A4##

    thanks a lot therevivedone

  • jesus! a whopping 38GB!

  • how do you make your macintosh hd icon look like a macbook? nice vid, btw

  • Ya how do you therevivedone?

  • I just wish they did a new intro video :(

  • so do i! you'd think they would, and make it something like going through snow piles i don't know but you are right, they should have done a new one!

  • Good vid.... I find it weird u have your Dock on the right side of the screen, but hey what ever works for u.

BTW what camera are u using to shoot this?

  • I'm glad Apple keeps putting out great software like this.

  • I am really stingy and don't want to back up my files. Do I have too? If I don't will it erase all my data? Or is this just a precaution.

  • Yeah, I had 262.89GB Free before and 292.88GB Free After. I LOVE Snow Leopard.

  • i got around 17 gigs back. i was just surprised as you! gotta love apple =]

  • at first you had 234 gigs total now you have 250.

  • How do I find my key lock password thing?

  • That is the password you have set for your computer.

  • will macs sold from today be pre installed with snow leopard?

  • If not preinstalled, they will include a snow leopard install disc free of charge.

  • it will be sold with an ugrade kit included

  • ok thanks for the info

  • no!! the video is not widscreen!! damn

  • did you take that picture Since I'd call it falls a comin

  • What are you talking about?

  • your wallpaper

  • I did take that picture.

  • The 7gb of space you are supposed to get back is the powerpc architecture files and programs so if you had alot of apps that supported powerpc aswell they got a lot smaller

  • how much does leopard actually take up?mine hardly took any memory up as it was

  • You should realize, before saying how much space you got back, that Snow Leopard now reads space in base 10, instead of base 2.

So before, it read the hard drive as being 232.44 GB, now it reads it as 249.58. That would account for part of the huge GB gain you're reading.

So if you want to get a better idea of how much space was actually saved, look at the bytes.

Before, used was about 182,800,000,000, after used was about 172,600,000,000. 10GB in base 10, but less in the old base 2 way.

  • Very true, the gain is a little deceiving but never the less, there are more bytes now than before.

  • i have a 120GB HD. Now i have about 65GB left. How much will i have after i install Snow Leopard?

  • According to Apple, 7 GB more, so 72 GB.

  • will i lose all my applications when i upgrade to snow leopard ? do i have to reinstall everything plus ilife?

  • Following the steps in this video, you will retain all your data, media, and settings.

  • No, you don't have to reinstall anything. It will just automatically UPDATE Leopard so that everything will still be in place.

  • no you don't. if you read the description, he says it just replaces the leopard system and coding, while leaving your files intact.

  • Nice Informative Video As Usual I don't Even own a Mac

  • you send that i could put this on a brand new blank hard ? i bought a 1TB one :) once i have formated it, do i just turn on my MacPro and hold down C for it to boot and install form disk - would be a great help !

    Thanks

    ben

  • It is possible to install on a blank external hard drive but it needs to use the firewire interface or it won't work.

  • it is a new internal 1 TB hard drive to replace my internal 250Gb ! not an external one

  • Excuse me, I misunderstood what you were saying. Yah, I would pop the drive into your machine and boot to the dvd. From there, install snow leopard.

  • awesome video on the upgrade to Snow Leopard. amazed on how you saved 14GB on ur HDD, that was kool. looking forward to seeing the new features on Snow leopard. thanks Michael.

  • Michael, if I do a fresh install and then use a time machine back up to restore using a usb cord, will everything be back to normal? Including iTunes?

  • There is one thing I hated about the upgrade is the fact that "Quick Time X" Has gained good in fact great features but it's all lost features that some users loved

  • Love your vids man... you explain everything clearly and thoroughly.

  • Very informative as usual. Nice video Michael.
