@katcorot No issues with standard height speed bumps at all. The only time I have problem with ground clearance is when the kerb drop down for paths onto the road is too steep. This can be solved by taking it at an angle though.
Beautiful machine. Wish they were not so expensive and more available here in the states. We now have many miles of nice bike paths to ride as the state has close many of the abandoned Railroad tracks and made them into hiking and paved bike paths! Best of luck to you and keep that beautiful machine wheels down! :{)
@MikeOBrien6640 Thanks! When you compare it to a motor vehicle it is actually very cheap and has positive externalities which a car just doesn't have (better health & fitness, it makes you happy!).... :)
What an amazing machine! I have looked at the australian ones fairly extensively ie the greenspeed and the 2 made by trisled but I'd never seen the mango before. The only thing I could whinge about if I was going to do such a thing was the steering. I already ride a greenspeed trike and am quite fond of their under seat steering.
@bigbadbecks73 I've never ridden a recumbent before so I can't comment on the 'standard' trike steering at all. The Mango's steering column certainly feels intuitive and it also has everything located on it - indicator switch, horn button, bell ringer, gear shifters & brakes and all can be operated with one hand. It can also be operated with no hands, just resting on my tummy! :-D
The Mango is really a good machine, I have a few questions though. Does it get hotter then on a normal bike?
Second question is on gearing. If you have 20" wheels, and a 52t- 11t top gear isnt the gearing lower then a road bike, given the smaller wheels, or does the second chain compensate?
I am thinking that if I can get my finances to improve I may buy one. Sorry for the questions.
@KrunchyJD From the guys at the factory: The front chainring is 52/39/30 which drives the cassette (12-25T) which is connected to a 26T on the intermediate drive. This then drives a 18T freewheel on the rear wheel.
I can climb 10% slopes without too much trouble - I'm fit, but not super-fit. It does't really get much hotter than a DF. When moving the airflow is more than adequate. Only when stopped on very humid days does it get warm. The body keeps the sun off me which keeps me cooler. :)
@nitramluap Sorry for all the questions, Does the velomobile, take standard road bike cassettes? I would put a Sram 11-26 t on it for an even wider gear ratio, this is what is on my road bike. Can you easily buy the other chain, and cogs that go from the mid, to the back cogs when the chain wears out?
@KrunchyJD Now I think... if I've done my sums correctly in my spreadsheet... this gives me a gear range of between 33-120 gear inches. This means that at a cadence of 100 I will be travelling 58km/h in the highest gear and 15km/h in the lowest gear. This is what I experience.
Very useful video, the detail deisgn on the Mango is pretty impressive. I'm curious did you try any of the other Euro velos before getting the Mango sport? I'm particularly interested in the WaW....any thoughts?
@MrMcsmiles Thank you for the comment. I did not try any other velomobiles but I did read about many others. The main factor which influenced my decision was that David Hembrow had one, has helped build them and has nothing but good things to say about them! Two other people also influenced my decision @pachauer & @pjotr320 - awesome vidoes :)
Very nice video... I even saw our panniers at 3:55 hihi. This video is pretty dangerous though... One can only spend it's money once and this is one very sweet bike!
@radicaldesign1 Thanks for making those fantastic panniers! Well worth the price and they are very well made. They sit so snugly that I don't even need velcro to hold them in position. Cheers!
@pjotr320 Thanks Pjotr. It was really paying tribute to your excellent walkaround video of the Mango. I watched it many times while I waited for my Mango to arrive! There will be no chance of me riding the Mango in the snow or ice :)
thank you for the clear and informative video; very well done.
It looks a lot like my c-alleweder #0; although that is a "bit" less clean and shiny due to being some 14 years old and having ridden around 240000 km's! I'm doing a complete overhaul/ restauration before i'll be riding it.
@jimmo Thanks Jimmo, I'm glad you liked it. I must say I'm really enjoying the velomobile. It is a fun machine to ride quickly but it is also very, very practical and it keeps the weather off me as well. I'm so glad I now am the proud owner of one!
How well do they navigate speed bumps? Do you have problems with ground clearance on them?

How much is the cost?

Is the rear light visible enough at night, it looks a bit small. Sorry for questions, I think overall the machine is great, and want to save for one.
KrunchyJD 9 months ago
@KrunchyJD It is very bright - visible during the day - but you can always add a removable flashing light to the rear if you need to.

Very detailed, very cool.
Have you checked out bentrideronline? There is a section for velomobiles.
Also Facebook has a whole bunch of Velonauts there.

Excellent video!
And it still is cool to see a Mango just like mine in such a complete different environment.
