Sarah Palin's father said that Trig is "named after his great uncle, a Bristol Bay fisherman". So unless this story is revealed to be false it provides an alternative explanation for the name.
Secondly, Tri-G is not the most common label for Down Syndrome. I have a brother with the disorder and this is the first time I'd ever heard it called Tri-G.

Because I've looked through medical literature and never seen Trisomy G/21 as TriG. It'd be better to give some kind of reference or proof that TriG is an accepted slang, or shorthand used in medical literature.

She didn't name her son after some abbreviation of the medical term for Down Syndrome. Trig means Smart and trim, as in appearance; neat. or Being in good condition.

Sarah Palin's father said that Trig is "named after his great uncle, a Bristol Bay fisherman". So unless this story is revealed to be false it provides an alternative explanation for the name.
Secondly, Tri-G is not the most common label for Down Syndrome. I have a brother with the disorder and this is the first time I'd ever heard it called Tri-G.
Sarah Palin has already been established as a dumb, shallow opportunist I don't see the point of causing pain to her family with this rumour.

Trisomy 21 and Trisomy G are two different terms for the same condition. A ten year old could find this information in 10 seconds flat.

Because I've looked through medical literature and never seen Trisomy G/21 as TriG. It'd be better to give some kind of reference or proof that TriG is an accepted slang, or shorthand used in medical literature.
Or at least proof in her son's medical records that have TriG put on it.

I've also done a lot of searching, and outside of YouTube videos (like this one) and an edit to Wikipedia that has since been undone, there doesn't seem to be a lot of evidence to support the claims here.
I'm not a Palin fan, but it's not a service to anyone to just make up stuff about her to criticize. She's gives plenty of fodder for that.

If this was even a remotely common "nickname" for Trisomy G babies, certainly there would be some mention of it on the web having nothing to do with Palin, right? But there's not. Every time this theory is brought up, it's in reference to Palin.

I have lived with Down Syndrome relative and they learn in a different way. Their qualities are not the same as society holds as successful. They are not evil. They are loving and beautiful in their very soul. They would not leave their babies ar home for their inlaws to raise like fucking palin.

Oh, and yeah, she should have told her family. I had two Ultrasound II's, think that's what they're called. They see more than the reg ones at the OB / GYNs.
First one scared me, at 18 or 22 weeks, because something read high on Trisomy 13. Fortunately, that's common, and second scan showed he was fine. His hands were waving at me, downs usually shows curled hands and other features.

The name Trig is a bastardization of the scandanavian language. That word is Trygg, meaning loyal, and or secure. So we're left with the question, is she so ignorant she didn't see the connection between the name and the disorder? Or, did she just not care? Guess its fitting though. The word Palin in medical terms means "again", so her name is somewhat telling. When she does something ridiculous or ignorant, we can just say "Oh, that's just Sarah Palin."
