edinburgh!! thats not a scottish accent! they used to be scottish its now a turn-the-coat city! and i know i will get some scum from scotlands "capital" trying to defend themselves of this but they only defence againts that claim is to move out of that city or get everyone there to learn their proper politics and for them to vote for the scottish referendum Nov 2010
Don't bother trying to differ different scottish accents. I went to canada and they thought i was english, so trying to make out different accents will come in time living in scotland. Ayrshire and glasgow have the same accent, however, pronounce things differently and use different words. Glasgow will say "know" and a lot of people say "ken" instead in ayrshire. Glasgow will say "Motor" and ayrshire will say "Cor" and everywhere else will say
Eh-din-bu-ru thats how it is said :P not Edinburg like the americans say. And yes if you have a scottish teacher obviously they will have a scottish accent but if they are french or german they may have a different accent.
Thats nae bother hen i will post some videos fur ye tae learn the edinburgh accent is there anyhing in particular that you wanted to ken remember the word KEN is very very important it means alot of diffrent things and is unique to edinburgh i will post this on my video along with the other points you raised
That is true.I have a good bit of Scottish blood in me and I speak with a Scottish accent. My friends think that it's very awkward, but it's just the way I speak.*shrugs*
Im currently at Edinburgh Uni and yeah most of the lecturers do have quite a distinctive Scottish accent. Its relatively easy to understand though as most don't use any form of slang! Anyway, as soon as you live here for a few weeks it'll be rolling off your tongue! Good luck.
Hi, so glad you enjoyed Scotland however please, please, please learn to say the city properly its prononced E DIN BU RAAAA. Watch some of my videos if you want to try and understand and learn scottish accents.
am from edinburgh & yes sound very scottish at edinb uni, but much easier 2 understand than the rest of scotland, u say pronounce edinburgh wrong btw!
OK guys don't shoot the foreigners because your language is phonetic and you don't exactly pronounce what you write!! A foreigner would expect that Edinburgh is pronounced as "Edinmpourg" rather than "Edinbraa"...
don't make me start nagging that in some areas they even pronounce the word blood as "bloud" and the words "up" and "but" as "oup" and "bout". When you find what is the real english accent you can start teaching other as well.
Edinbrog... i don't know whether to laugh or cry =P. i'm guessing the accent lessons are given in will depend upon the nationality of the lecturer, there is no forced uniform accent, they are not on another planet through in Edinburgh lol(note the Ed-in-bur-ough). anyway, enjoy uni and don't worry too much about understanding people =)
You actually have such nice manors btw! Your accent sounds like its been all over the world in 1 day haha.
Don't worry about our Scottish accents. It's not hard to understand, especially in universities, where most of the tutors and students speak politely and clearly anyway.
When I was at the University there most of my class were Chinese and most of the lecturers were from England or some other part of the world. I know some people felt a little cheated about that. You won't hear an accent exactly like RayTheFox's since it is a more northern accent.
its edinburgh not edinbrugh icome from scotland i would know

Its kinda hard to describe any Scottish city as being Scottish now. So Its a bit unfair to say that just about Edinburgh.

Theres loads of different areas in Scotland and we all talk differently with a slight different accent(broag)
I live in West Scotland - Land of burns and just about 20+ mile up the road from us the talk slighty different
So depends from where yer fae in this country

I don't think they give lessons on how to speak Scottish - I really couldn't tell you.
And the pronounciation of "Edinburgh" is "Eh-din-burr-uhh" The "g" sound is silent. :3
And you have nice teeth!
