lol the 1st time i played this game, I never got into the car to drive to my hideout. I just went to the train station, killed people, got a shit load of money, THEN finally proceeded to do the story, and by that time, I already had a ton of handgun ammo and money xD

It's certainly a feat in itself when a single-player game can inspire group play, and that's exactly what this, Vice City and San Andreas did for my friends and I at the time. Hours were all too easy to pass by rotating between people and giving them the chance to do whatever they wanted until they died. They explored, and we watched. Fun was had by all.

Wait... you said the walking and driving feels "sluggish" in GTA3...?! The running, jumping and driving is probably the most responsive and tightest in this version. Sure the shooting mechanic and lock-on sucked, but running around and driving around was the most responsive and tightest controls compared to any other future GTA. It only went downhill as they tried to go for more "realism" in GTA 4, that ended up feeling like I was driving gold carts on the moon.

GTA 3 used its own physics engine. Ragdoll, Havoc, or Euphoria physics isn't the beginning of "physics engine" in game design.

Also: If you think the cartoonish, floaty, and downright sluggish driving controls in GTA4 are "true-to-life" then you obviously have no basis in reality, and this back and forth can bow come to an end.

@mangaas Where did I say that GTAIV used the first physics engine? GTA3's "physics engine" only applied to cars, albiet very lightly. In GTAIV, the physics are based around realism, whether you'd like you believe it or not. Just because cars couldn't turn on a dime doesn't mean they were "sluggish". The game actually required players to use the break if they wanted to get around town smoothly. I guess this minor change was too much for you.

i daresay this is where next-gen started. ground breaking. this describes a great period of my childhood. and be it a dark humor, gloomy and violent game, this is still a very pleasant memory. i was 10 years old, and hey, i'm no psychopath now, even if i was, not the game's fault :)

Not aged well? It's aged very well this and vice city are the most real GTA games. They don't hold your hand and just let you figure things out on your own and play the game. The graphics still look great 10 years later.
