Inner working of Escalator

this is a thyssenkrupp escalator and we need to take off some steps to tune some of thesafety switch in the escalator. there is an inspection mode to operate the escalator with a remote, it is safe like that. never step on an escalator with a hole like that ... same thing if you fall into a blender.(sorry for the english)

What does the red button at the bottom do at 00:11? Is that another emergency stop like towards the top right corner or does it control the speed somehow?
