I'm glad Mr. Martin took the opportunity to explain the situation and what his wife's group actually did/said.  One can't really blame the church for standing pat with its own doctrine. As for your concerns about the Bible (which has been much abused by those who have used mis-translation from texts originally in Aramaic, Greek, & Hebrew to push their own beliefs) and following Christ, I recommend you look into United Church of Christ. UCC has no problem being Christian, following Bible precepts, and being 100% accepting of gays.

The Bible clearly shows that being gay, lesbian, transsexual goes against God's teachings and is regarded as sexual corruption of those who don't believe or choose not to believe or follow God. In the end, God makes it very clear where those people (unless they stop acting that way) - they WILL go to Hell. Its as plain as that. Its typical of those who act that way or who support those people that try to twist the Bible to make their lifestyles legitimate - when its not.

The basic issue at heart here is religion's, and the Bible's, irrational fear of homosexuality. To claim that homosexuality is wrong because the Bible claims that it is wrong means that all other adherents to the Bible must follow through on other Biblical teachings. Such that, attempted conversion is a crime punishable by death (Deu 13:6-11), to name only one thing. So, if we can realize that the Bible may have been wrong about that, we can realize it may have been wrong about homosexuality.

Here's a simple example:

How could anything from this book be taken literally today?
