A great thing about Ike was that he didn't seek the presidential office, both the Republican and the Democratic parties wanted him to be their canidate. ultimately he chose those the Republican party.
Wow, I've never known a war hero to be celebrated to such a degree. Victory must have been definite and absolute. A contrast to today's static & uncertain achievements.
Well today the heros are mostly unknown , the media is only interested on the bad people in the army because there got from those story high viewer levels as the from a normal hero.
It was a very mature military decision for Gen. Eisenhower to have the Russian Army instead of the U.S. Army invade Berlin saving thousands of American lives.
you have to remember tho we saved britan and france from being taken over most british will say they were doing fine but the truth is that the USA saved them and in the most part the whole war was mainly fought by the USA the british barely were any help once we were in the war
One of the joys of my life was to attend the inaugaration of IKE as presidentIT was a great parade and there is a famus photo of IKE being lasooed by a Texas Ranger as he was passing the reviewing stand Thanks for stirring happy memories
Hi; you can add one, Martin Luther King. This egregious man reached the highest top in U.S. History in the 20th Century. His voice freed men of all races: black people was freed from a hateful apartheid and abuse; white people was freed from their complex and prejudice. There is no greater man in U.S. history. Support the building of his memorial in Washington D.F. with no use of public money. MLK was awarded the Nobel prize, he was no president of the country, and he offered his life for all.
Republican? Not according to his son. Martin Luther King III said, "It is disingenuous to imply that my father was a Republican. He never endorsed any presidential candidate, and there is certainly no evidence that he ever even voted for a Republican. It is even more outrageous to suggest that he would support the Republican Party of today, which has spent so much time and effort trying to suppress African-American votes in Florida and many other states." King actually voted for LBJ in 1964.
@Apurlec That just really pisses me off how beyond backwards that is. I don't care so much about the race thing, but this just furthers how Republicans are trying to destroy this country and take everything sacred away from us. They own everything and want to own everything. They also want to make us all slaves just like the Blacks had to once endure for 500 years. That's what's going to happen to us all for another 500 years with their destructive policies.
Ike is my hero as well. The best president of the 20th century. A War hero, yet he kept peace and got out of Korea before it became the first Vietnam. And being called "one of the greatest Americans" from Churchill is high praise. They were actually good friends.

Ike, was a great man and a great President. MLK was also a Republican, had he not been killed the black vote would of been different.
