As a child I used to love running around eating the fresh hail which was a frequent occurrence in my small country hometown.
We had much harsher and more frequent storms than this one (larger hail left on the ground for up to 4 days afterwards in some instances). This sure was exciting though and it showed up the lack of planning against less frequent but more powerful storms Melbourne can experience.
Thats my school. the skylights on the roof are all smashed and water got in. we were told not to rock up for a week because they're cleaning up all the damage. the whole upper floor is art studios.
After being in a similar storm 10 years ago I went and learned how hail forms. It really is fascinating and humbling to lean of such natural power. And yes it can be very localised. It all depends on the wind.
u know what the funny thing was people were surfing and canoeing where roads were down my street even on the train tracks now i've never seen that before.
The worst floods were in 1972, when cars started to float down Elizabeth St in Melbourne, ALL trains to or from Flinders St came to a complete stop. If you Google it & see a Pic of it, you'll wonder why know one drowned in the city. There always will be very dry spells & flash flooding.

I would of loved to of been there so I could eat the hail. It fell straight from the sky so it would be clean water.

Thank you for filming and sharing this.
It gives a completely different perspective than just reading about the storm.
And it's scary..

It amazes me that the strong weather only struck that area only and not the rest of Melbourne. Had to be in the right place at the right time.
