i have a question.... when you are in the submenu page say january page only im wondering can you rotate the word january to 90 degrees or how ever many degrees you want? im guessing no cause i cant find anything to rotate my text but thought i'd ask to find out in case i'm looking in the wrong spot... thanks
@TemporalParadox1 ok thanks. ya i didnt think you could since i couldn't find anything to do it.... great tutorial though. everything worked just like how its suppose too :)
Working on my first project now...when I go to burn my disc, I receive error: Warning: An error occurred while writing a file. The file is an unsupported format. Have you encountered this problem, or happen to know how to fix it. Thank you.
@TemporalParadox1 I had .mov and .mp4 videos in the project. Changed them all to .mp4 videos and that seems to be working now. I'm trying to add some voiceover audio to the menu pages and I'm getting the error again. I have tried .mp3, .wma and .aif, and still get the error. Any input there? Thanks a ton for your help, so frustrating sometimes!
How are you trying to add this voice over audio ?
Normally I use the Explorer Tab and Navigate to where my Audio Files are - then I simply drag it onto the Audio Timeline (which should be blank) for the Menu Page.
I don't think you can drag an audio file and dump it onto the actual Menu Page itself.
@TemporalParadox1 So my project contains .mp4 videos, .wma audio and .jpg and .png images on the menus. Still getting the error message. Don't know what to do now! Ugh.
why does it say that each episode is 5 gigs when i for sure know that those 20 minutes dvd vids are only 1 gig each? is the program just faulty or does it realy increase that much on this program?
There are some technicalities about what DVD Architect does that go beyond my understanding.
However, if you ever add videos to DVDA and it seems to increase the "projected disc size requirements" larger than what you would expect, then do this.
@TemporalParadox1 No its ok i figured out what happend. When i converted my videos to dvd it showed 5 clips but for some reason they all fused into 3 hour and 50 minute movies and i have 4 of those and there was 5 clips per of the 4 movies of clips i made. So basically when i put one of those 5 clips it was the same movie over and over so it turned out to be like a insane amount of gig. I didnt know my computer would fuse them was the problem lol xD
Ok...I didn't realize that adding music was as simple as dragging & dropping a file just below the video track in the lower right hand corner of the page.
The fact that there is no mention of this in the "Show Me How" instructions,is what threw me off.
Of course-I understand completely, that you can't pack everything into a single video...but to me,it seemed logical(that somewhere in the 2 videos that you've made),taking 20 seconds or so to mention something as basic as adding music to the DVD menu, would be appropriate.
I don't mean to sound ungrateful for all that you've done thus far,but just pointing out that mentioning the aforementioned action is not time consuming,is all.
I do agree with you that this is a very deep program, capable of a vast amount of complexity-but your tutorial reveals just what a straightforward & user-friendly program it really is.
For me though,I had only been accustomed to very basic video software that was included with the PC's that I've bought over the years & Sony's tutorials don't read as well as a full blown tutorial video such as yours.
I'm fairly well versed in the professional audio domain, but video production is new to me.
I was wondering...you mention nothing of adding music to the DVD menu, which then prompted me to search the program for details on this & it appears that this option is absent?
There is freeware out there that includes this feature...I mean,it's so archaic of Sony, not to include this option....is this feature exclusive only to the pro version?
This DVD Architect tutorial is wonderful-thank you! I've contacted Sony, begging & pleading with them to make a video tutorial, but I suppose they feel that their "Show Me How" instructions are sufficient for everyone.
They are helpful, but they don't explain everything in as comprehensive of a manner as does video instruction....as when I've gotten myself in a bind,I was coldcocked.
This depth of this video is amazing, for it being at no cost...unbelievable!
@TemporalParadox1 So like the menu is like the main screen that appears when you autoplay a DVD on the TV? And sub-menus are the menus followed by links?Basically, do they work like hyperlinks like in the TV when those text-like links are present in the menu Like 1. Songs 2.Scenes 3.Play Movie Are those sub-menus with media links? Sorry for asking so much cuz I'm new to this And I'm trying to understand the working of the sub-menus and stuff Looks like stuff laid out in a loop-like manner lol
The Menu's are exactly the same as a bought DVD Menu - there is no difference.
You can make your Menu's as simple or as complex as you like - but it does require patience and experimentation to learn this.
It's a good idea to but some DVD-RW discs so that you can make different versions and see how they work - when you are finished you can use the Re-Writable discs again and again.
Very nice video, easy to follow and professionally presented. I, and others I suspect have difficulty in understanding some of the vocabulary used by Sony in the Thumbnail Properties box especially terminology used in the Actions box. Would you consider doing a short video on just how to understand and use this Properties box. Thank you.
Hi I need help Im making a dvd for daily video highlights for a camp I filmed, and I want to know with all the chapters (days) I want chapter 1 (day 1) to play ALL the chapter from beginning to finish and want every other chapter just to play that chapter and stop. so chapter 1 is play all and the rest dont.. can you help me thanks.
yeah sorry I have 5 different videos that i just called the chapters, which they probably arent lol. Well I have figured out how to link them all together so the end action will play the next video, but what i kinda was really after is having the first video (day1) to also be a Play All button as well, and all the rest of the vids (day2,3,4,5) to be brought back to menue after playing it (if you clicked on it without watching day1).
The problem is that once you assign destinations (end actions) for each video, you can't assign alternative end actions - that's why Playlists are in the program, so that you can come up with different combo's.
So the only way that makes sense to me (not spending too much time on it) is assign END action for every video to go back to Main Menu 1.
For Play All function, create a play list with all 5 videos included.
PART TWO: (most instructions are for button properties top right corner)
With Play All list do this:
Click on top of Playlist in Menu - Media Tab - Thumbnail Media - Select Video still from video #1 to represent Video 1 - this play list now becomes Video 1 (delete video1 from Main Menu)
For each individual Video (1-5) double click - go to media properties - END ACTION - set to Menu 1
*For this method to work you may have to import videos a different way to what I originally taught.
Alternate and better way to Import Media - because it gives greater control.
When you start a new DVD Architect Project, go to root directory (left hand side menu for DVD) and right-click on top of "Untitled". Then click insert media and find each video for the project. All you have to do now is drag each video onto the Main Menu Screen.
I will make an updated tutorial for this very soon to clear things up - I only learnt this better method myself a few months ago.
Thanks. Real helpful. So I heard you say to render from vegas "dvd architect". So if thats done that means architect only recognizes mpeg-2? Also, all those videos you added to this video had seperate ac-3 files?
You can put "some" different types of video directly into DVD Architect - what will happen is that DVDA will convert everything to MPEG-2 & AC-3 files.
Every DVD you buy only uses MPEG-2 for video - this is the industry standard.
All the videos I put into the project were standard video files (they didn't come from Vegas) - I allowed DVDA to create the AC-3 files for me.
I am uploading some new tutes for DVDA very, very soon.
Do you know how to edit out a part of a video, but then the rest a background? Not cookie cutter, though. I've watched other tutorials, but they don't use Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 1O.O. If you don't know what I mean, type this in to the search bar and click on the first video. [It wouldn't let me comment the link] " roundtutorials sony vegas effect 33 "
Vegas Pro 10 costs ALOT more than Movie Studio - normally $599 retail.
There is a special on during February with Sony Creative Software, where you can upgrade to Vegas Pro 10 for about $255. However, Vegas Pro is a lot harder to use than Movie Studio.

What type of Video Files did you import into DVD Architect?
You can only import .wmv, .mpeg2, .mp4, or AVCHD video.
Any video that is imported is always converted/rendered to MPEG2 Video - International Standard for DVD's.

However, if you ever add videos to DVDA and it seems to increase the "projected disc size requirements" larger than what you would expect, then do this.
Go to FILE - OPTIMIZE DISC - FIT TO DISC
This will compress everything back down.
TemporalParadox1 2 months ago
@infernorock11
Part Two:
Remember this about DVD capacities.
A single sided DVD holds 4.7GB's of information - that's only about an hour of good quality video.
A dual layer DVD holds 8.5GB's of information - about two hours of good video.
Adding Menu's does take up some extra space on the DVD obviously.

By the way,I thought I should warn everyone here, that Memorex DVD's are utter rubbish,as they do not burn,in this program.
I received an error message saying that the disc was full-when in fact,it was a blank disc.
I then tried Verbatim discs & they work fine.I suppose any reputable brand of discs will work as well.

When you talk about "chapters", do you have one single video that you have divided into chapters?
OR

rickydepths1 11 months ago
@rickydepths1
Another great idea.
Quite simply, you can add small length videos (10-30 seconds is probably a good length) to use as a Menu Background.
Just like you would ADD a still background to a MENU , try adding a video instead.
There are some fiddly settings for menu loop length and other stuff - do an experiment.

What type of video did you put into DVD Architect?
Was it MPEG2?
If you didn't use MPEG2, DVD Architect will convert it to MPEG2, which will increase the file size quite a bit.
Here is an important question for you.
How long does your 200MB file run for in minutes?
You can private message me back with your answers.
