This is really fantastic. I must say, with great respect, I'm surprised by Lindup. He's seemingly SO much more toned-down shortly after this, based upon what I'm finding on YouTube -- great, great vocalist and interesting keyboardist.
Fucking gem of a track. Nobody can and ever will play bass like Mark King. Now we have got to listen to the shite in the charts today (except Snow Patrol, Kings Of Leon, The Killers)
I saw this these guys live when the were brand new onthe old grey whistle test back in the day at the in brixton in whats now called the fridge, the tickets were free there were hardly any sold the band was so new the bbc were giving tickets away out on the street so the cameras could film people, mark king wasnt a happy bunny it was going out live and there were no more than 50 people inside,
never seen 50 people make so much noise would love to see that show on tv again
Hold on a minute, you've got the wrong end of the stick. I LOVE Level 42 and have a lot of love and respect for Mark King and his bass playing. I was just joking that he was prancing around like he had ants in his pants. This performance sounds like it was lip-synched, which is a crime for a band with such high musicianship. I've seen them live 5 times and they are truly amazing !!!
Best song of Level 42. A band with cult potential when they wouldn't have done these stupid pop-songs. Ok, they made their money but they lost their funk soul.
I know what you mean in a way. Although I would say that when they moved over to pop stuff, they still had more soul than the 'pop' that we hear nowadays. I think it had far more substance than most of today's mediocre, overplayed average music. Every band reaches a point where they either go up or carry on, on an even keel. Mark King could see the potential in reaching for the stars I guess.
I'm guessing these weren't Mike's keys? Looks like an early Rhodes and a synclavier - neither of which I believe Mike owned, could anybody shed some light?
Totally awesome, even for a lipsynched/mimed video. Anyone have a link to the group picture of them with these clothes? It's one of my favorites of theirs...Mike in the tiger suit and Mark in leather, Phil in the classic jumpsuit...nice.
Wow, Gretsch kit. I think this is synced though and it's the cut down version of the track without the extensive Lindup keyboard and scat solo...

Reminds me of the records artists like George Benson did in the late 70s-early 80s. Oh, and that IS a Synclavier II.

Re the keyboards, think it's a Rhodes in a custom case and the synth an ARP (Quadra?).
pierstheoneandonly 2 years ago
could be an synclavier... - but doesn't matter at all - it's all PLAYBACK because it's a TV-Show. ;-)
Normally, in the early 80s Mike's Live-Setup was: Rhodes 73, SCI Prophet 5 on top & Minimoog on the right.

"The single "Love Games" had reached number 5 in the Dutch charts. " -------------- I heard it also went to No 5 in Holland and the Nethelands.
