Elvis made rock popular. Jerry Lee, Little Richard, Chuck and others helped, a lot! But it was mainly Elvis. The Beatles brought r&r to the masses. They made it ....ah..respectable. They, more than anyone, influenced the sound of contemporary music more than anyone, including Elvis. But, props should be given to each and every artist of each era, including "Killer".
What a crock of horsesh*t... some of the world's most successful rock stars say that before Elvis there was nothing. Elvis reigned from 1954-1977. So lets think of his country style singing and what happened when it was introduced to Scotty Moore's blues guitaring down at Sun Studios... it was known as 'The Big Bang', and that was the birth of modern music. It was the first time the world heard this new style. A country based lyric alongside sped up blues being country picked. Rockabilly.
Whooooooooa! Just got back from Jerry lee and Dennis Quaid playing Great balls of fire and told youtube commenters the same thing: Whole lotta shakin goin on here on Jerry Lee's video. Great Balls of fire!!!! Fun stuff.
I shouldn't matter who influenced who to us as the fans. There was never this much in fighting with the people who created this music.Credit has been given where it's due. Elvis, Muddy,Jerry etc have all been praised by those who were influenced by them and they have praised those who influenced them. They got over it why cant all of you. How about just being grateful for the tremendous gift of rock and roll. One thing we all can agree on is that this music is top notch. Why not leave it at that.
@MrAxSAP speeking of the present time....not gonna work. he's a legend, but not a God. the talent he HAD* back when...is not the talent that he can still perform today.
A lot of these artists that you guys are naming have all been a huge impact on future bands/artists. BUT I would have to say when it's all said and done that the band that was the most influential (and will ever be) are The Beatles. There has not been anybody in music since their time that has not copied off them or wasn't influenced by them in some way. And that includes ALL GENRES of music.
Is there anyone out there who has "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" on smash records? All I can find now is the Sun version the original I liked the Smash version better it was fuller stronger bass and drums The Sun version is great it's just different thinner maybe
@rollsroyce28 From the film "Great Balls of Fire", which explains the life of Jerry Lee Lewis. Awsome movie, really. Watched it years ago and loved it.
This video isn't Jerry Lee Lewis. It's Dennis Quaid. Pretty sure the music is Jerry Lee Lewis although I believe Dennis Played some piano on GBOF as well.
Dennis played piano for some scenes, but Jerry Lee Lewis actually recorded the songs over again because he wanted to prove who was the real Killer in this movie.
