  • My heart goes out to the family!May God help them all throu the difficult time ahead.

  • How could the bridge tender NOT see the man ?

  • Furthermore, it's my understanding that the Florida DOT contracts out employment of bridge tenders on Florida DOT owned bridges to a private company. I feel the Florida DOT needs to go back to hiring its own bridge tenders like it used to many years ago rather than contract it out to a private company.

  • First of all my condolences to the family of the elderly man who died in the drawbridge accident. It brings back memories of an almost similar incident on the Treasure Island Causeway in St. Petersburg back around 1971 when a car got trapped on the steel grid deck section as it was rising; the occupants were terrified being stuck in mid-air and were rescued.

However, bridge tenders have a duty to ensure that the movable area is clear prior to disengaging the span locks to raise the bridge.

  • What the fuck are you talking about. You know douche bags know when they're beat when they start calling people "kiddo" lol what are you 10

  • you'd think he would've chose one side or the other before it got up too high.

oh well. he was 80. it's not like he had a full life ahead of him or anything.

  • Hi there, you know 80 years old or not it does matter, because it's life. What would you do if someone tells you that you lived long enough and you don't need your life anymore... what would you feel?

  • no one decided this person had to die though. it was a freak accident. but he was fortunate enough to have already lived 80 years. the life expectancy is around that anyway, so it's not like he missed out on much.
