  • I lol'd :)

  • Hello satch solos!

  • 0:24 Pac Man dies

  • Comment removed

  • i only watched because i like like strat fr

  • You can now play Slayer solos

  • i cant bring my floyd down like that

  • Here they teach you this in a simple, quick and great way... I need a guitar with a whammy bar...

  • Pls can we do this without the whammy bar? 00:20

  • @001Metallicarules

You can't do it that way, since you need to push the wammy down and loosen the strings.

  • Comment removed

  • the sequence of harmonics starting at 0:19 is in the live version of "Summer Song" by Joe Satriani. anyone else realize that...

  • keep practicing.this is a difficult technique. eventually you'll get it.

  • 0:24 pac-man dies ;-(

  • nice

  • jeff beck was kinda the first to do that trick...

  • Simple pero efectivo metodo

  • nice and easy, it will make your solos sounds better!!

  • definitely sounds cool on a strat haha

  • very nice man im into the same type of guitar playing :)

  • i usually pick the strings

  • you can do it that way as well. Sounds a little different because you hear the attack, but still a cool sound.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline i pick it too but its more because its too difficult to pull off and get the harmonic right with dist turned way up.

  • @visualkeirockstar ahahhahah

  • Just to make things clear:

This technique is not called "dimebag darrell squeals", because it's been used even BEFORE Dime's birth.

    That's all.

  • @nicolhaidi yup

I mean, you could call them that, and a certain crowd will know what you're talking about, but to correct someone else for NOT calling them that, as if thats the "official term".... is a mistake.

  • Those are Dimebag Darrell squeals.

  • @yucyber

yeah, he did these as well, though he wasn't even close to being the 1st. This was in common useage before dimebag was known. In regards to "squeelies"..... he was just doing what everybody else was already doing.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline

The technique ur using is caled Dimebag Darrell squeals.

  • @yucyber

No, actually that name is used by Dimebag Darrel fans, but the technique itself goes by a number of names. "squeelies" "screams"..... call it what you want. and btw I learned how to do this before the 1st Pantera album was released. Learned it from the same place he learned it from..... all the other guitarists of the day.... especially EVH.

  • @armandosolado take a spring out bud...

  • can u do whammy bar scream only with floyd rose or not??

  • @terristheironsoldier

You can do it with other whammy bars. The Floyd (or similar) will stay in tune though, where as a stock Fender bar will almost always put it way out of tune.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline i have a washburn WM10V and i learned it from this video it sounds good enough without floyd ;) thanks for the lesson keep up the good work!!

  • Can i put a whammy bar on a Gibson Meastro Double-cutaway? if i can, how? plz respond

  • Nice vid, Now the secret secret is how to keep everything quiet wile doing the move.

  • Hey can someone please answer this for me!!! can we do this with a standard Fender Strat whammy bar??

  • @akaanam Of Course

  • hey how did you have stratocaster with up down tremolo? or did you modify it?

  • THAT IS A DIMEBAG DARRELL SQUEAL!!!

  • @JoshuaDG2111 Nope satriani started that technique first

  • @therealWTFproduction

actually neither of those guys invented this technique. it was already in high usage by the time either of them had albums out.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline Good point.... But if you have to choose you would say that satriani "coined" it

  • @therealWTFproduction

well, the 1st person I was aware of doing it was EVH. That's where I learned it. Satriani was like 5 -10 yrs later.

Same with dimebag. Satriani did bring alot of new ideas.... but this in particular is something that pretty much EVERYBODY was already doing. it was a mainstream thing, even .....cliche, before Pantera or satch put out albums.

  • the time is almost sunset!!!!

  • can i only use a standard whammy bar(not a flyod rose i mean)

  • makman7900 like a horse

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline Do you play metal? I'm having trouble deciding between a Charvel So Cal and Fender HSS Floyd Rose. Sweet vid by the way. :-)

  • GREAT! Great lesson!!!

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline Lol, yeah :)

  • what i thought it was like a fender tremolo the stock one

  • The third part of listening to that video, that whammy bar really hurst my ears! Too High! Ouch! How does the whammy bar sound like that, anyhow?

  • my whammy bar sucks and its too stiff and hard to push it be one finger

  • I honestly did not know this. I have a special floyd rose tremolo but during my first attempt to tune it, i couldn't find help or a decent video, i managed to screw up real bad. After messing around with the screws on the side, idk why- seems like a god awful idea now, I finally managed to balance it. Before it was slanted downwards. Now my whammy is super tight and i just play without it since it just became so easy to pop strings. ppl have said i need to counterbalance it but fkk it's confusin

  • FINALLY my latest song is finished check it out my channel

    it's called As Pages Reverse

  • man i wish i never sold my first ibanez....

  • i dont have a whammy bar anymore... i have 2 guitars.. les paul and strat and the strat had a whammy bar and my brother fell on it, and broke it off :(

  • thanks.............. may GOD bless you

  • glad i have a Edge 3 :D

  • can the string break when doing this? o:

  • @ThaThing1337x very unlikely, all strings are stretched so the tension on each individual string is reduced.

  • installing a double locking tremolo system on a strat must be a bitch

  • Alexi Laiho doing this with his whammy bar?

  • so much easier using a pick. not quite sure how you're string-hitting/harmonic-hitting.

  • @danecook321 so?

  • i need a floyd rose bad. but i'm left handed. ugh. im getting really tired of my strat going out. its a fender and stuff, and i've done all the tricks and techniques like the Fruda thing to get it to stay in tune, but then i cant do bends or anything. any suggestions?

  • @OzzyKingofRock buy a gibson?... :P

  • @OzzyKingofRock did u get a righty and re string it or get a lefty

  • @OzzyKingofRock look for an ibanez

I think The RG series has some lefties with floyd

  • you dont have to hit the string first, but im sure it affects sustain

  • Is that the jeff Beck signature strat?

  • @willrivaldo

Na, it's just a 83 standard strat. Wish I had the Beck guitar though! =)

  • what kind of nut is that

  • can your wammy bar ,can be pulled or its just only pressed down.????

  • @nlpongcal163

It's a floating bridge.... so you can pull up on it.

  • you made me snap my strings you bastard! They were 2 years old though :) thanks for the lesson mate.

  • @jamesjonesrocket how non earth they last so long wen u hadda trem bar

  • @GIjoemomma002 I didn't use it until I saw this lesson.

  • Hi! I have a Fender Strat with a normal Whaymmy Bar. But when i use the technic, the guy in the video uses, i just get normal harmonics, like the first one in the video. I do not get this screaming noise like at the end of the video.

    What do i make wrong?

  • @MrTiomio you dont have a locking nut maybe try just playing the harmonic the way you normally woul (finger over fret) and go down on it then up... thats wat i do and turn distortion up high turn all dials on guitar to 10

  • i blocked my floyd a couple of days ago, so now it only goes down.... SO WORTH IT!!!! now i ca ndrop tune all i want!!! and i can tune it so easily!!!

  • @Zorlak108

yeah it's good for tuning issue. I like mine to float though. Its fun to use it to vibrato chords, or to slur a note in from above. But yeah, if its your only guitar, and you want to change tunings...... thats the only way to go (besides not having a whammy bar at all)

  • Can some body please answer this.

I have a Squier Stratocaster and I cant seem to get any riffs from it, it only plays like a acoustic but with a different sound and its plugged in a amp as well

  • @MrUsman007 Use fucking distortion man!!

  • @MrXplorer1994 not everyone is a heavy metal fan

  • are there specific types of a floating bridge that you need to get for your guitar when you get a new one, cause I have a dean ml 79f and the bridge on it is shot..and I found a new floating bridge on ebay thats under $50 in excellent condition, cause im not paying $150 just for a floating bridge at a music store when I could get one for brand new for under $50.

  • i fucking hate my floyd.

  • @12345Carlos

What don't you like about it?

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline my i can't have good action, or a balanced bridge at the same time. i used 11 gauges and then dropped to ten. and its just completely messed up now. no matter how much i mess with the springs in the back.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline idk about him but i dont really enjoy mine. too much work to change tunings and whatnot. i bought my guitar cause it was cheap. i actually traded my squire bass for it. i never use the whammy so its just a pain in the ass for me.

  • @blazelmtdedtn

yeah, well a cheap guitar and whammy bar is definitely not ideal.

    If...

    - you're into music where the guitarists uses a bar

    - you have an extra guitar

    - you have the floyd on a quality guitar

    Then you'll probably enjoy it.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline the guitar wasn't too cheap it was just old. it was around $500 when it was new. im the 3rd owner.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline i don't get what's a floyd sorry i'm not english

  • @djtiestorlz

It's the whammy bar. (Floyd Rose).

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline ohhhhh thx

  • @djtiestorlz Floyd Rose es la marca del tremolo, es lo que hace el sonido de "grito" en la guitarra.

  • better than tits.

  • 0:25 pac man dying sound

  • The last one sounded very funny hahahaha..thanx for the video. It helped a lot!

  • worth the 30 seconds

  • this sounds like the song "Stop The Rock"

  • is that a fender with floyd?????????or u just customized it?

  • @neddx3

    83 strat + Floyd (customized)

  • very cool thanks

  • Very nice video, such effect is very useful in the background or solo when you play metal,

but I've got a lil'problem here, I just plugged the whammy bar in Fender Squier bridge, and started using it, things look fine, but bridge... it has changed its angle relatively to the guitar's body, I've got three springs behind, which are parallel to each other, should I increase springs' tension, or it's okay? Thanks a lot in advance, and rock on! :D

  • hi, im new to guitar and have been practising on acoustic, i was wondering which electric guitar you would recommend for beginners

  • did u install the floyd?

  • Nice lesson, very helpful

  • YES a video that teaches me something! Never watching expertvillage again.

  • it sounds like a horsie

  • this is a very good lesson, short and effective

  • did u ever try pulling up on the whammy? MOTHER FUCKER

  • is it possible to replace my simple tremolo in a floyd rose one????

  • @rpunk85 NOT WITHOUT THE LOCKING NUT I THINK BUT ITS PRETTY MUCH WORTHLESS WITHOUT ONE.

  • can it scream when i used a simple tremolo????

  • @rpunk85 u need a floyd rose or a kahler

  • shit.... now on DiscoverGuitarOnline you MUST pay to see videos..... very sad....

  • Can you do this on any fret?

  • so to create the high pitch do you really need a floyd rose system

  • I watched this and was like, how does that even work?

Tried it, and all I can say is, thanks for this :) It's bloody awesome.

  • Nice and simple, straight to the point! Thanks for this lesson

  • hehehe the last one sounded retarded

  • good thing Jacksons come with a Floyd Rose

  • @cmjmkcapbpjhdsatjx well atleast licensed

  • DO NOT even bother with ANY trem but a FLOYD ROSE, no I don't work for the company, it's just that all the rest aren't worth spending your money on.

  • thinking of getting a start w a floyd rose

    worth it?

  • Well, I like it. But if it's your only guitar Id give serious thought to the fact that tuning will be a pain. You'll stay in tune..... but if you want to go drop D, or any other tuning, it'll be a chore to get it there.

Now if you have 2 guitars..... yeah I think it's worth it.

  • yeah i ment strat i all ready have one but i wanna get one with a floyd plus i have 3 guitars ....

  • oh cool. yeah man, I think you would like a Floyd. I love mine.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline floyd is great as long as you don't want to change the tuning. if you choose a guitar with floyd rose bridge buy a pack of elixir strings and if you don't break it you won't really have to change them for a pretty long time.

but if you want to change strings often or play with different tunings even if its like E and drop D... choose a fixed bridge. You spare yourself from lots of pain.

  • @Havoccus

Well, the ideal situation IMO is to have multiple guitars. I use this guitar when I want to use the bar, but most of the time I play a les paul.... SG... or Strat without floating bridge.

For the very reasons you mentioned.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline I can't argue with that. If you have the money to buy two guitars then its not an issue.

  • @Havoccus So true, I used to change my dadario strings at least once a week due to corrosive sweat. I put on a set of elixirs around 1 1/2 months ago, and they still sound great with almost no tone loss.

  • @kuhboom22 Hell yeah man, i use elixir and ernie ball

  • @Havoccus Have u seen the d-tuna? it looks worthwhile

  • @Havoccus but can you still play in other tunings with a floyd rose guitar? ive been thining about getting one but i want to play in drop c too. what would i have to do to it to play in other tunings? please reply soon

  • @Thebeaner871 Of course you can play in any tuning. What makes a floyd (floating) bridge worse than a fixed bridge is that you need at least half an hour to retune your guitar to another tuning (trolls and pros: this obviously applies to the unexperienced). A good floating bridge will stay tuned for months if set up perfectly.

  • @Havoccus cool thanks for your reply. one more thing though, someone told me that if you want to go to a low tuning like drop c i would have to adjust the tension on the back of the guitar everytime you tune to it. is this true?or is this only when you put in a thicker gauge of strings? please reply soon.

  • @Thebeaner871 This is a common misunderstanding. You only have to alter the neck tension when you put up different gauge strings for the SAME tuning. Here's why: let's say the 0.42mm E string has a pulling force of 50N when tuned to E4. If you tune it to D the force obviously reduces to let's say 45N. But as the string will be too loose this way you buy a thicker string for D4 let's say 0.48mm. Due to its thickness this string has a higher pulling force when tuned E let's say 60N. So... [cont.]

  • [cont.] if you keep the default E tuning then yes you have to compensate the extra force by tightening the neck tension. But when you tune that 0.48mm string to D basicially it loses like 10N so a D tuned .48 string will have the same force as an E tuned .42 string. Of course you won't always find the perfect match so you might need to adjust the tension but if you avoid extremities (like going C tuning with .48 strings after using it in E) you better not fiddle with the neck. Easy to break it.

  • @Havoccus oh ok. im not sure i understand exactly what you said at the ending. so if im in E tuning and then go to C tuning that will damage the neck? thanks for your reply and sorry if im being a bother.

  • @Thebeaner871 if you go from E to C with the same gauge strings the neck with tilt a little towards you so the strings will touch the frets by default. Use higher gauge strings (like, if you use 9-42 for E, use 11-56 for C or 10-52 at least) it will be perfectly fine. The easiest way to tell if you've chosen the right strings that to check if they need the same amount of force to bend. But do not adjust the neck if you don't know absolutely what you're doing. Better leave it the same.

  • @Metallicaforever95 While tuning it may be a pain, also look into blocking the tremolo. By blocking the tremolo it becomes easier to switch from standard to dropped d, or dropped c. While you have the tremolo blocked you can't use the whammy bar but you can make it convenient, but not as convenient, as a fixed bridge.

  • @Metallicaforever95 I equipped my Strat with Graph Tech hardware, and it stays in tune extremely well, it's less expensive and it's more convenient than a Floyd Rose system. I bought a package from Graph Tech that includes saddles, string trees, and 2 nuts (lol) called the Supercharger Kit for only $50! Trust me, a Floyd Rose over time will wear out and will not work any more. I will warn you, Guitarcenter doesn't sell them in stores, you have to order it off of their website.

  • @ShortFingeredShreder i just looked it up and does it really stay in tune like the floyde rose does?

  • @REAPER3295 It stays in tune extremely well. The only way it gets out of tune is if you bend the bar up, bend it back down to fix that problem. A decent Floyd Rose can cost hundreds of dollars but as I said before the kit is only $50. After using the bar a lot, I noticed that tuning is slightly off when I retune it but I never notice it because it's just a little decrease. My suggestion is to try the graphite hardware and if you hate it, just return it and get the Floyd Rose.

  • @ShortFingeredShreder Thanks ill do just that just one more thing will guitar center install it for you cause i dont know how?

  • @REAPER3295 Yeah, they'll do it for like 15 or 20 bucks. They'll sand down the nut, put in the saddles, adjust the action, and adjust the intonation for you. I did mine myself and it took about half an hour to get all of that done. Also if you set up the springs the right way, you can make the traditional bridge into a bridge similar to a Floyd because you can bend it up.

  • @Metallicaforever95 ther are ups and down the up is it stay in tune for a long time the down you cant change tunings

  • @Metallicaforever95 if u r a beginner, it's not worth it. Trust me dude. Since it has a floating bridge...u might suffer from tuning problems. even if u buy, u gotta use same gauge strings and same tuning to make the floating bridge and spring in balance.

  • @arashish

I agree with this. If it's your only guitar, and you're a beginner..... it'll be a major pain.

IMO it's best to have 2 (or more) guitars.... or just 1 with no whammy bar.

  • @DiscoverGuitarOnline damn right dude.

  • @Metallicaforever95 WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Metallicaforever95 MOST strats dont have a Floyd if not any... Youd have to get it installed ( $1500 for a good guitar, $200-$300 for the floyd, $200-$400 for the installation) Worth $2000? No.. But check out the Schecter website. Look at the BlackJack FR and the Hellraiser FR... both under $1000 and have really great finishes, COme with Original Floyd, and come with either Duncans or EMGs and a Coil Tap/ Split ( Gives you a Single coil sound with you pull it )

  • Hey, that's pretty easy. Dude, my new explosion razorback is so much fun.

  • This is to all you crazy guitar players and rock and rollers out there!! (Drummers, Bass, Keyboard, Singers, etc, ) All of you Rock!! All of you, like myself are learning new stuff everyday!! I like music and rocki'n and rolli'n!

  • the harmonics depend a lot on the quality of the pickups and the quality of the amp. If you want a screaming harmonic, always use the bridge pickup.

  • gothyke: Thank you for your input, I did forget to mention that. Quality of pickups and amps is always important. And also you are correct on getting those screaming harmonics with the bridge pickup. Rock On!

  • hey we have same guitar ,i can do scream or whammy bar but in my strat i cant produce the loud scream it just little sound

  • @switch0123

    am...

can u see the little "button" down there, that let u switch pick-ups?

play with that... u need one of the extreme side... i am not sure if its "left" or "right"

    have fun :D

  • does anyone know how i can adjust my guitar string height ??

  • ok whats your guitar ? you just need an allen wrench to adjust the the string heights or is the neck is curve ? if the neck is curve you need to adjust the truss rod

  • @switch0123 its X-trek and i dunno what type it is...its 2nd hand

  • It actually depends on the type of guitar you have. Guitar string height is actually called the action which means the distance from the strings to the fretboard. I don't want to confuse you because a lot has to do with the intonation of the guitar. The lower the action, the less sustain you will get on the guitar, you should have it at a level you feel comfortable with. I do stress though that if you don't have the experience to adjust the rod or the bridge, do not try to do it on your own.

  • @honeyjnc69 ok

  • is there a ertain amp your using, it doesnt work for me

  • yes harmonics rely a lot on what amp guitar your using (quality wise)

  • but they also rely on what your doing so dont just give up they take a while to learn
