I once got to meet Randy--Club Foot in Austin. Remarkable night and performance. One of the nicest guys ever, and...gorgeous....so glad he is happy. Someday his talent will be fully acknowledged.
rocker53zero,Thank you so much! I love this ♥I think you know me a little too well! LOL But I'd like to get to know you better too, cause my heart's on fire! ♥ Love, msstevie ♥
Meisner is from Scottsbluff Nebraska. Before the Eagles were big time they used to play in Scottsbluff at a place called "the Woodshed".
He ownes a small office/shopping mall and some other property there, don't know what he's up to now days...........................................................
please bring Randy back with the song live on stage "take it to the limit " i love that song,he was the best of the Eagles,Better then any of them, there so jealous of him, i want that song back, thanks.
It does not any better than this song . Ihave been playing it for about 22 years. and a lot of the old band re dead, but still playing with us. N. Y. Tony
I think Randy today is comfortable living off his Eagles royalties and just doesn't need the hassles anymore and does his Worlds Greatest Rockers things once in a while and is happy with that...whoc could blame him since he paid his dues in the rat race with the Eagles and just wants to enjoy the rest of his life. The guys high voice made the the Eagles harmonies, he is so underrated.
I could be wrong and probably am but Randy was still under mngt by Irving Azoff when he left the Eagles. Knowing Glenn and Don's grudge's they probably instructed Irving to not promote him much And if i remember correctly he did a show at thr Bottom Line in NYC once and did not feel well. Reporters hounded him about not sounding too good. He took exception to it and i think relations between he and the press soured. That did not help him much either.
@nyrichiek According to the credits for the album this song is from, Henley and Frey did background vocals, at a time when neither Henley or Frey were getting along with each other. Also, seems like the famous Meisner/Henley/Frey harmony is on this song.
Love his voice. I really haven't had a song lately where I absolutely love it like I did back then. I don't know if it's lack of talent nowadays or something to do with my youth.
Randy Meisner's vocals on "Midnight Flyer" and "Take It To The Limit" are irreplaceable in The Eagles songbook, but then so is Timothy B. Schmit's one in a million voice on "I Can't Tell You Why."
in terms of poco, tim's contributions were much more in terms of quantity. several mini hits from the mid 70s era featured tim, including Keep On Tryin, Starin At The Sky, etc........
tim and randy are very different singers. both are excellent and both brought excellent harmony vocals to many eagles tunes sung by don and glenn. tim's solo material is equally as good as randy's.
I'm sorry folks, I don't care what anyone says, but once the Eagles lost Randy and his higher voice, there was a huge void that couldn't be filled........with him they sounded soooo good, his voice comes thru in the background in a lot of songs......like One of These Nights.....Randy Rules !!!!!!!!
Both Randy M and Timothy B are fabulous singers and bass players. But to say that The Eagles was "never the same" after Randy left, I totally disagree. Then again, YOU guys don't know music like I DO! I spent years singing Eagles cover while playing bass! Check out the Hell Freezes Over concert and watch Timothy B. play astounding bass lines on "New York Minute". Not many bass players could pull THAT one off! Can YOU???? And yes, I can!
When this song first came out, Detroit disc jockeys said that Linda Ronstadt was doing the female backup to give the song a boost when, in fact, it was Wendy Waldman.
After Randy left the Eagles, there was never the same high part harmony in the group again. Timothy Schmidt does a good job and I like his style too, but Randy gave that over the top sound that made their early music better than it is today.
I cant help thinking how much greater the Eagles would have been had they not gotten rid of Randy.I guess the egos ruled though considering Randy had the better voice and was probably considered better looking than Henley or Frey, lmao.Eveyone knows how those two fought over women like rabbid dogs over fresh meat and ultimaately ended the EAGLES,THEY DESERVE WHAT THEY GET.
I'm fairly certain the Eagles didn't "get rid of" Randy. He quit (after threatening to do so many times) because he was tired of the constant strain and wanting to spend more time with his family. I do agree that Randy was a key part of the best years of the Eagles and it was a shame that he left.
@SixstringPlayR Don't know about the chick thing, but you nailed it with the better voice. And that MAN had a knack for composing a song that the rest of those assholes envied. Why do you think they settled for Timothy B Shit as a replacement. But you are right .The Eagles without Randy died a slow and boring death. Rock on Sixstring! Tommy.
It's a standard power struggle regarding song writing credits and money. Henley and Frey formed a songwriting partnership and dominated the band. They made it impossible for Leadon and Meisner to stay with the band and ultimately drove Felder off when he questioned where the money was going in the late 90's after they reformed. From what I have read today, Frey and Henley are owners of the Eagles brand name. Joe Walsh and Timothy Schmidt are hired salary players since they joined the Eagles.
I saw him in concert in the late 70s in Portales NM opening for the Beach Boys. Portales used to have a lot of good concerts for a small town back in those days. Saw Pat Benatar and also Santana with El Chicano
I actually recorded this song myself a number of years ago,as a fun thing,i recorded a drum track on my alesis sr16,and added bass,4 guitar parts, and 4 vocal pts,but had to keep bouncing tracks,as i only had a tascam 4 track, but it came out surprisingly well.
It's very refreshing to see all these positive comments regarding Randy Meisner. He's always seemed like such a nice, regular kinda guy. My very favorite Eagle and kind of got treated shitty by two members in particular!! I'm so glad he's not been forgotten by some fans out there!!
I was just at the Wilderness Resort in Wisconsin and heard this on their "musak" while on the lazy river. It brought back many memories and scary but funny, I knew it word for word.
This guy is like the most forgotten member of a famous band. He got hosed by not being on tour with Eagles in the 1995 comeback, and Timpthy B Schmitz was asked? He was on 1 Eagles album, the Long Run. Meisner was with them until after Hotel California.
I remeber this song being a hit back in da day!

Why did they get rid of Randy? Frankly, I don't think it had anything to do with looks.
I ask this question all the time about Randy leaving. I get so many stories. Randy was and still my FAVE! He's AWESOME!

Randy was growing weary of the road and disliked leaving his family behind.
