Tim Geithner, Hank Paulson and Ben Bernanke extorted banks in excellent standing -- forced banks to take TARP loans they did not want or need, plus sign a % of bank stock over to the federal government. Bankers were basically told, "agree to these terms or endure embarrassing public, costly audits" Now feds won't allow banks to repay loans or allow banks to return unspent TARP loans because feds want control of the banks. Illegal, impeachable, and imprisonable! People -- demand action!

The truth,Obama Administration requested the exemption for AIG bonuses. Dodd inserted a amendment in the $787 billion boondoggle at urging of the Obama team to ensure that.

Guess who received the most campaign contributions from AIG in 08? That's right Dodd received over 103,000 08 almost a 1/4 million dollars since 03.

Good speech. These workers deserve their money, it's that simple. They were contracted to earn this money, and per their company guidelines, they did. This is their money, not the governments. Did they do well on the job? Probably not. But they did as they were contracted to do, and they earned their money. Pay these people their money, let them keep their money, and quit grandstanding. No, it's not. AIG is not bankrupt, at least yet. This money was contracted legally to be paid on performance. These employees hit their targets, and should be paid accordingly. The government had nothing to do with this. To take their money is stealing, even if done with good intent. You are argueing two different points. This money was earned, by contracted terms, and should be paid. The fact that new laws are being talked about proves that this money was perfectly legal. Pay them.

jdfox1, you're entirely missing the point. AIG *would have been bankrupt* it the government didn't give them $170 billion. If the government had not intervened there would have been no bonuses, and those contracts could not have been honored. But I agree, Congress and the Treasury handled this very poorly. They should have set the terms *before* handing over the money.

Yes, but the point is this: AIG is not bankrupt, it never has been. The company did not fail. The employees did not lose their bonuses because of company failure. None of these things happened. The contracts were legal. The fact that the government is considering "rewriting" tax laws proves this. Very scary, these new laws. That's ok though. People who can earn this money can do so in any environment. This money is legally their money. Pay them.

The A.I.G bail-out has been a way to hide an enormous second round of cash to the same group that had received TARP money already.

The first 85 Billion was given to AIG by Tim Giethner at the time (FED NY Chairman) on Sept 16...Then on Nov 9th they negotiated some of the terms of that loan and additional Billions were pumped in. At that time Ed Liddy and Kashkari put in the retention Bonuses to be paid on 3/15/09...To make it official they had Dodd amend the stimulus bill in Feb and added the Bonus clause.

Got to Love this little secret wind-down that bypassed the Constitution to deal between the Federal Reserve and AIG.
