6,000 volts at 500ma...3,000 Watts! That's pretty cool! What kind of transformer is this? Did you connect several microwave transformers in series to get 6kv? I've also heard of people taking some of the shunts out of neon transformers to get more current, but that's probably not a good idea. The most power I've ever worked with so far is 15,000 volts at 120 ma.

I got only 4kV @ 1A..not sure about current, but it burned 700mA fuse right away.
