They are attempting to bring it into the US, with a competition involving 15 teams. USA also has an international team that competes in the AFL world cup. at the moment though i think europe is taking a liking to it with there 9 man competition
Too bad they didn't put the effort into importing this to the US as they did with promoting soccer/football. Nothing wrong with that sport, but Americans are well aware of it and simply aren't interested, no matter how hard they pimp Beckham. They started showing games on TV in the Philadelphia area this year and its slowly buliding a strong following. Its takes a few games (or matches, or contests, I don't know the proper term) to get the hang of it but once you do, its f*cking awesome!

I admire the sentiment, but Football is actually older than fuckby and soccer. That's why we celebrated 150 years of football last year. It may well grow in popularity internationally, but 350,000 over the weekend proved that it's the biggest sport in this country by FAR.

The majority prefer AFL, it is our national sport. Rugby is for meatheads from the northern states and is not respected elsewhere in australia.

the majority of afl teams are in melbourne alone.
Sydney was formerly south melbourne and brisbane was dieing so they merged with fitzroy.
The most popular football code in w.a is union 2nd is afl. In S.A the a league soccer is most popular and afl comes in 2nd. Afl tried to form teams in hobart, canberra and the gold coast but the population of those places rejected the idea of it.
Rugby is heavily respected around australia, it is an international sport.

compared to nsw where a lot of people know about and follow afl
the majority is dropping from year to year from where the teams are
as of next year there will be 8 interstate teams + 10 victorian teams + if nt had the right seasons they'd have a team as well
