I was so disappointed with my work, they said they needed to keep the lights on so people knew we were open so they could make money. They're one of the biggest companies in Canada and they couldn't go half lights for an hour because of money. Thank you Cineplex you suck!

How does this translate? (It could well be by chance but...) It means that people who are environmentally aware are probably the most likely to sue you if something goes wrong because you had the lights too dark. Ironic? So yeah, they are probably more afraid of you suing them than not visiting them.

@absolutelyfree1963 Why do you use candles every night at your place? I am assuming that you mean you use candles as a primary light source, not just for mood lighting. Don't you have electricity? I would have thought that the CO2 equiv. emissions from a candle would have been more than that of a low energy bulb. Especially if you factor in the 'expected value' of other social and environmental costs associated with candles (i.e. house fires). Good on you for sticking to the fun stuff!

I work with a guy who worked at a power plant, and he had a great point (which never occured to me). When there is a sudden drop in power demand, the plant is ramped down, but when there is a sudden rise (when people turn their lights back on), the plant(s) blow much more energy straining to get back up to meet the sudden demand. You are not helping saving energy, you are just being manipulated.....

I grew up during the 70's OPEC energy crisis and to this day I use my house lights very little, this event smacks too much of a "Cumbaya" moment, especially when you consider Al Gore's carbon footprint, he ought to be shut down.
