man I loved this game, lotsa sidequests and eastereggs for that and many things to discover even after beating alpha the original gangsta,

I bought 4 aswell but I lost interest after I finnished the second difficulty, I mean it sucks to have to do the exact same things even if the virusses u bumb into are stronger as you do -.- doing it all a 3rd time was 2 much for me.

This battle theme was by far, the BEST one in any Battle Network game...even if it WAS only, like, 40 seconds long until it looped again. (Although, to be honest, it COULD'VE been longer.)

4 may have had the weakest writing and some of the weaker scenarios, and yes playing through some parts 2-3 times was repetitive, but it had the most longevity of any game in the series for a skilled player without a multiplayer opponent. Not only is it the longest (you won't have to erase your save to get more enjoyment), it's also the hardest, with random encounters that're actually a challenge--found virtually nowhere else in the series. After 4 I don't think I could play the others again.

In my honest opinion Battle Network 3 was the best of its series (and Starforce for that matter).

The liberation missions were a poorly implemented gimmick. There was really very little thought required to complete them, which is why they were so frustrating.

Additionally, I'd say that while 1 has the least going for it as far as mechanics go, it's far from the worst. It's only natural for the original to have shallower gameplay than its sequels as sequels should expand on an established formula. However, 1 still has the core, classic Battle Network gameplay that I love, and it isn't a clear step backward like 4 and 5 were.
