The police seem to have the strange idea that people cannot carry out a school massacre without instructions. From what we have seen with the many school shootings after columbine these tapes being held make absolutely no difference. So I wish they would release them to satisfy curiosity.

Its ridiculous that the tapes are still sealed from public view, there is no valid legal reason for it. The parents and others should get together and push for it again thru the courts, or at the very least try to have them released under the Freedom of Information act. The columbine tapes are not 'history'. Their release affords Eric and Dylan another victory. You can read the transcripts anyway, all they do is boast about their infamy. Yes we would like to see them but we certainly do not need to. What on earth was learnt by the virginia tech manifesto being shown except anger from victims families that Cho got the little bit of fame he wanted. Eric and Dylan need no more media attention like I said they are now finally fading into obscurity.

You have made a valid point about freedom of information in a democracy and I accept there is a truth to be found there. However the basement tapes are hardly comparable to footage of the Nazi holocaust which is part of the warning from history the documentation of that era provides. As for the Al Qaeda taspes the only aformentioned example at all comparable we needed to see them in order to know that they had claimed responsibility and other media groups made them public.

I want the taqpes released, bu there is nothing positive that cam come out of them. Columbine has inspired most school shootings post 1999, so I do not think its necessarily a 'call to arms', yet its inevitable the next school shooter post the tapes release will mention them. The release of the tapes will award Haaris and Klebold one more news story they do not deserve. They are now at last beginning to fade into well deserved obscurity. Columbine was a tragedy.

People are choking on their rights. I want to see these tapes as much as the next guy but I also think Mink is right. It's easy to become fascinated by columbine. I've been there and most of you probably know what I mean. Spending endless hours trying to piece everything together, searching for more, finding new meanings in what they left behind. In the end... all that's left are the basement tapes.
