I have a Larrivee with a cracked top as well that I had repaired. I'm using an automatic humidification system (hydrapak or something?) now which works great - just keep it in the case year round and the auto humidifiers keeps things right where they should be. It's not the cheapest way to humidy the guitar, but it's the most worry-free.
Well, yeah, any acoustic guitar needs to be maintained at the proper humidity level, around 45-50%. More easily said than done. I learned that the hard way when my 1970 Martin D-41 cracked the same way. Didn't hurt the sound BTW. I finally invested 50 bucks in a room humidifier that has a humidistat that I can set at 45%, and keep all my acoustics in a closet that happens to have an outlet that I can plug the humidifier into. Better than trying to deal with individual guitar cases.
Larrivees are great guitars. I used to own a l-03. Only problem is that their tops tend to crack when not properly humidified. I'm not sure why but speaking to a local luthier, he informed me of many he had repaired.
great playing. sorry to hear that it cracked, glad it was repair-able though. Any idea what caused the crack? Was the humidity too low or too high of a string gauge?
@whomad1215 It was the humidity in conjunction with a pickup I had installed. The jack went through the peg for the strap on the face of the guitar near the bridge. When I had it installed (at a Larrivee dealership) they told me they'd heard of this problem, but of course I didn't expect it to bite me. I play with pretty light strings, so it was definitely not the string gauge. Needless to say, I am much more attentive to keeping my humidifier in now. Thanks for the comment and the compliments.
@daveowczarek Sorry to hear about your Larrivee cracking! I wonder if it dried out. Do you keep it humidified? I work at the the Vintage Fret Shop in Ashland, NH. Not only are we a Larrivee dealer but we deal with Martins as well. Its my experience that a solid wood guitar will sound its absolute best right before it cracks. Its bittersweet! Keep jamming, sounds good!

I have finally gotten the guitar back after 10 months or so. I'm very much looking to putting up some more video with my new HD camera. Thanks for all the positive comments.
Great playing!! Loved it and the guitar...I just got a Larrivee LSV 11. Absolutely beautiful looking and sounding. Hope to play as well as you someday..
Thank you for the compliment. It is an LV-03. I recorded it in the most primitive way - I set up a point and shoot camera on a tripod and just played. That's why the audio is such rubbish. I'm sure my next effort will be much better, but I appreciate the comments nonetheless!
I was able to get it fixed locally for about US$80, which surprised the crap out of me. They don't glue it - you humidify the crap out of the guitar and then they put cleats on the inside face (no glue) to hold it together. And thanks for the compliment - I appreciate it.
I doubt they will. I will probably take it in this week to have it looked at and we'll see what happens. I'm sure I will be told that it was the humidity and/or microphone in the strap peg and contributed and they are generally not responsible for that stuff.
Damn, some crazy bends there! Very nice.

You deserve a guitar in one piece. Tell Larrivee your prob - it he's a player, he'll understand and send you another, bro - to - bro, ya understand?
If that don't work - sue the bastard.
Peace out.

To follow up on this, did Larrivee replace your guitar?
Good playing btw!

Did Larrivee replace the guitar? It would be considered normal use - no?
