  • This is the very very short version. Its a shame because he has the atmosphere and spirit to pull this song off.

  • He's so cute with his bushy eyebrows and his bounciness :)

    Love this song!

  • love seeing whistle parts played on an early 80's synthesizer

  • A great singer!

His earlier recordings do him little justice due to such poor arranging and production. Maybe someone who understands modern production can remaster these recordings and perhaps even totally rearrange new tracts around his outstanding singing.

  • Awesome!

  • Alright! who are these 2 people!

  • @mikesamwild, your comment made me laugh out loud!

I love this song. I think The Dubliners' version is a bit more atmospheric but Johnny Mcevoy's has the merit of clarity. Thanks too to the contributor who posted the lyrics.

  • Short version! the song is about 3 times this lengh.

  • you guys are fucking retarded. The spanish lady represents a literal spanish lady who lived in ireland. She was a lady from spain. She stuck out like a sore thumb because it was fucking ireland and she was spanish. Some irish guy fell in love with her and wrote this song about her.

  • @dv122 Who's this eejit anyway, and what the hell does he know about her.

  • @dv122 it leaves a sad reflection on YOUR education dv.. if those are the only words you can use to express yourself

  • my ma has a tape from this concert i think

  • It's about the spanish influenza?!

  • No.

  • So the Spanish lady is not "The influenza"? I know that in many countries the influenza is called "The spanish lady"

  • Wait, maybe i'm mistaken here... But with 'influenza', you mean the spanish flu of a few years ago, right? That's not what this is about. ;) But if it's something else, it could be...

  • No, I'm talking abount the influenza of the 19th centure.

  • hehe I'm germany from south

Brazil with spanish parents, i know this. Grácias.......

  • I come from Germany. I can this song foron old CD´s forom my parents.

  • Irish from spanish descent.

  • Johnny McEvoy is a great singer. Coguish where did you get this at? I think we all want to know where to get this dvd.

  • Classy stuff! McEvoy is a legend, an Irish classic!

  • I wish I was there! WOW! He's amazing!

  • Anyone know when this song is from? When were the 'Peelers' (long before even the RIC) known as 'Watchmen'?

  • I've wandered North and I've wandered South

    Through Stonybatter and Patricks Close

Up and around by the Glouster Diamond

And back by Napper Tandys house

Old age has laid her arms on me

Cold as a fire of ashy coal

But where, oh where, is the lovely lady

Neat and sweet about the sole

  • I stopped to look but the Watchman passed

He said "Young fellah, now the night is late

Along with ye home or I will rassle* ye

Straight back through the Bridewell gate"

I threw a kiss to the Spanish lady

Hot as a fire of angry coal

In all my life I ne'er did see

A maid so sweet about the sole

  • As I went out to Dublin city

At the hour of twelve at night

Who should I see but a Spanish lady

    Washing her feet by candlelight

First she washed them, then she dried them

Over a fire of angry coal

In all my life I ne'er did see

A maid so sweet about the sole

  • Bloody Amazin!!!

  • i love this song.
