I remember the Launch and even before channel 5, I was about 6 when it launched, I even remember all the test screens. Its never been a channel I would watch, I have never stuck to channel 5 when watching something, its always been rubbish for me and now its nothing compared to all the other channels out there now.
Channel 5 was a great channel back in the day. It was amazing that back then we had 4/5 channels, but had so much quality TV. Now I have nearly one thousand channels of nothing!
Now that Richard Desmond from the newspaper Daily Express has bought FIVE from Germany tv company RTL. It look like its going to convert back to the Channel 5 brand and he also planning to expand it programming schedule.
At one time I had around 2 hours of just channel 5 test transmissions on a loop on the end of a video- which of course included this. I got rid of the tape a few years back though...

I remember the launch of Channel 5 well, could'nt get a clear picture and it was fuzzy. But i kept adjusting the indoor tv aerial to try and get a good picture.
I remember this very well. I also seem to remember at the end of it, the Spice Girls appeared and said "Channel 5, Easter Sunday, 6PM".
I was on holiday in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland during the launch date, and oddly picked it up fine despite the rural area. I remember the sky being really clear and seeing amazing stars and the Hale Bopp comet from where we were staying. Great days. Can't believe it's over 10 years ago now.
Great stuff! Wasn't the whole build-up to Channel 5's launch really exciting? Then the launch night happened & hardly anyone in the country could get it! Oh well. Channel 5 was a lot better in it's early days, then it is now though...
Its a sad fact of the digital age that because every man and his dog opens a new channel every other week now, there just isn't the same big buildup to a launch any more.
Channel 5 was great when it launched back then, it's sad to see whats become of it, irrelevant celeb trash owned by that smut lord Richard Desmond.

Back then, I couldn't get Channel 5 at all. But then, in about november 1997, we managed to get a faint picture of Channel 5.

TV used to be good. But in the 2000s its shit. So are all satellite and freeview channels.
