As a 6.2 Diesel owner, There's no greater better sound on this planet than hearing a 6.2 roar! Sure, it might be underpowered, it might take 20 seconds to reach 60 on a highway and it might a little stubborn to get going at times, but at the end of the day, it's all worth it.
I just picked up a '86 for $700. Very solid. Very little rust, but has a blown 6.2. But I have a '85 blazer that's body is rusted out with the diesel that I can use for the 2500. It's a diamond in the rough right now, but it'll be sweat once it's finished.
hey man really nice truck, i just got a 86 blazer with the 6.2, how do ya make it smoke? any tips on it? i been reading about them people say no speed or anything but torque out the ass n impressive gas milage like 18 or 20mpg! diesels are pretty awesome!! any advice? thanks man!
@HPJVRBLB44 My injection pump went bad a couple of years ago and when i put the new pump on it smoked like that. Im guessing whoever rebuilt or remanufactured it turned it up some. The 6.2 is nothing for horsepower and is a gutless wonder but its different and thats why i like it and a lot cheaper to work on compared to a duramax, and i have gotten 21 mpg on the highway before. Its been a good truck to me, thanks for your comment
@379v8diesel "other than the injection pump is turned up a bit", LOL! That does a lot for a 6.2, other than adding a K&N air filter and bigger exhaust.
We had one of these where I used to work. It never failed to crank up but it was a POS lol. It had a bad problem that occured if you hit a pot hole going about 35 the whole front end would start bouncing up and down uncontrollably and you would almost lose it. Good times. Nice truck
Before I modified my own 6.2 it didn't really sound like this. however, every video with a Canadian sold 6.2 sounded more like it. Is there a difference between both 6,2's?
It depends what pump you have. The stock 6.2L diesel only produces about 165hp. But I recently installed a 3500 fuel pump. And a supercharger, my 6.2 makes about 365hp now.
We used to haul 17,000+ of beefs + the weight of the trailer and truck ever weekend with a 6.2... which I know is way over loaded but it still did it...not saying it would do it more than 20mph up hill or anything.. but that truck is still runnin strong today
@379v8diesel But that's the point! A duramax would be expensive even if someone gave it to you for free, expensive electronics, expensive fuel injectors, expensive this expensive that. THat is if they broke.
I wouldnt take my word for it cuz the noise yours is making could be something worse than mine...im not trying to scare you or anything but i would get it checked by a diesel mechanic. thanks for the comment
its really hard to tell on the 6.2 cause they rattle and make so much weird noises, mines been makin that noise for the last 11,000 miles so im not to worried about it
im buyin a 85 GMC 4X4 its got rusted out rear fenders but what old chevy dont its got the 6.2 in it and i wanna put twin turbo's on it do you think it could handle about 20 psi of boost at full load? or would it blow some gaskets or throw a piston?
They can barely hold 10 psi stock without having problems on down the road, if you put twins on a stock 6.2 your just asking for trouble...cracked heads, thrown rods ect... A stock 6.5 turbo diesel only made about 7-10 psi stock. If you do put a turbo on a 6.2 you would need to put in lower compression pistons and stronger head studs to make it last a long time. Thanks for the comment!
Its a 3/4 ton. All diesel and big blocks in that style of truck had the hydroboost and all one tons had hydroboost no matter what type of engine (small or big block)
Kid your a fool, don't listen to this kid he know nothing, never make it out of scrap metal, but i do agree on putting a bigger pipe. My local garge built a 3 inch Exhaust for my 1987 GMC 2500 6.2. THe truck would be even better if it had the Bank turbo kid from factor. mine does.
If i do put a turbo on it, it will probably just be factory system off of a 6.5 turbo diesel. The banks system are way to expensive ($2200 bucks), a 6.5 turbo would cost me under $1000 bucks and would do what i want it to do. And yes i do agree about having a bigger pipe. It has duals with glasspacks on it now and there pretty rusty. Thanks for the comment.
it gets between 23 to 25 mpg on the highway, i used to have a 88 3/4 ton chevy van and has a 6.2L diesel, and drove it to gatlintburg tn, sure miss that van though, anyway... nice truck, and since i seen the DeVoe logo on the truck tailgate, you live in marion by any chance? nice truck by the way!!
it's ok for a minute, i never heard of greetown, then i realized... you meant GREENtown, keep that truck running there is not many of these classic diesel trucks on the road
Nice truck! and yeah $6,500 aint bad for that truck it looks really good still how much did your transmission run you? we are getting a turbo 400 transmisson for 350$ for my brothers
Thanks for the comment, VERY NICE K20. I love Ford, but appreciate anything classic and American. I got my truck from the original owner with 91,000 miles in July. It was near perfect original, but some lady backed into the bed and ruined the driver bedside. I had both bedsides replaced and painted, now I have to do the cab to match! I got it for $1200 and drove it home from Cali to Michigan! I love all the classic trucks, I even work for GM, lol
Thanks, no i didnt restore it, i am the 3rd owner, the orignal owner had it repainted, the 2nd owner only owned it for 6 months then sold it to me. hahah! Hey, check out my videos of my '83 Suburban... don't feel too badly -- those injector pumps go out around 150,000 at the most, if you are lucky.. I wish mine only had 116,000 miles on it!! LOL! Still drives like a cadillac, though. Oh, and don't get me started on transmissions..... LOL
i love chevy i cant wait for high school when i get my dads 92 silverado small block but nice looking truck i remember doing burnouts with my cousin's dad's truck lol he had a small block also it was fun but nice truck you got there!!

6.2 liter v8 diesel, it was made by detroit diesel, GM's diesel division

Interesting that they now use the duramax designed by isuzu rather than have detroit make a new engine. Maybe was just disappointment in the 6.5L...
