  • I like to see that this music attracts thoughtful people.

  • So sad I am just discovering this music it sounds like a comfortable old friend and I cannot get enough .....I want to know more and hear more and share, share, share

  • I'm gonna try to learn to play this song so I can play and sing it for my girlfriend. When I hear it I can't help but feel like it was made for the two of us.

  • Most massively talented bands have at least one hauntingly beautiful song on each album. This group is different.

Every single song on this album is inexpressibly moving. Soul stirring.

The fact that this band is not well known speaks volumes about most people's "tastes" in "music."

  • mark kozelek is the sickness of mind. how could someone make such an amazing song like this! it will be always in my ears until the day that i die..

  • Good music Good band.

  • Maybe it's cheesy and silly...but this music makes me feel like everything's going to be okay.

  • @aboo12195 its not cheesy or silly at all, its what bands want, for there music to make people feel better and good about what has past and whats to come

  • this song and it's sound creates a battleground wherin which i find the truth of the struggle of me. from a fuckin song, i find the me, i am to be? unfuknblvbl homie g. go ohio, moreso than the me i could ever be.

  • Can't believe I've only JUST brought this album...

Anyone gonna see Mark live in the UK later this month?

  • tears...

  • Why does it matter how you got into a piece of music, so long as you discovered it?

  • 2 people really 2 wow cant u jus die omg u ruin this song from being perfect

  • great song. the ending is epic.

  • I listen to this song when I fuck bitches. It makes my dick fat.

This comment is meant to offset anybody trying to sound "deep" in the comments section of this video. take that, internet!! >:D

In all honesty, this really is a pretty good song, despite all the hipsters.

  • @GreyAlaska that was deep man.

  • @19wayfarer19 That's what she said.

  • @Yourlocaltaliban hahaha.... that was a good one, hats off to you. set myself up for that.

  • Masterpiece. Nothing else to say.

  • it makes me feel like i'm back in the 90's again.. in a fall or winter that has a just right temp and sitting with a warm fire and some wine... red to be exact

  • Wonderful. His voice reminds me Tim Buckley, but the guitars are closer to Red House Painters.

  • Why is Sun Kil Moon not THAT famous, is beyond the comprehension of my stupid little mind.

  • FIRST!!!

  • @kinkycommie -_-

  • Can we stop saying one artists music is better then anothers. All art including music, is subjective. That said, April is the best album of the last decade..In my opinion, of course. :)

  • i love songs like this. it just reminds you of all the happy and special moments in your life even if you had just a few.....

  • beautiful song....

  • @EliteSpartan633; joemanYT i agree w/ denomoses lol specimens of idiots are people who lose track of the music... just listen to the message of the song... is it talking about the grave consequences of not adding an E to a word! or correcting someone? WHY WHY WHY!!! listen! just please LISTEN!!!

  • I like metal and this is amazing.

  • Somehow it reminds me Chris Issak ... the first time I listen a song from this band and I like it so much.

  • Great song, very powerful, and i catch myself thinking his lyrics sometimes during the day. Yes Sir Kozelek keep it up, and i hope you always have inspiring lyrics to write and put into music, otherwise my eyes and ears will well up with the lost verses that couldve been..

  • I love that there songs are nice and long, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the soft, calming, lullaby that is Sun Kil Moon.

  • Heron blu is my faveroite

  • @joemanYT Get your spelling right

  • @EliteSpartan663 Sorry Mr. English teacher

  • @joemanYT its ok man , I forgive you this once , its just you sound like an uneducated idiotiotic specimen .

  • @EliteSpartan663 thanks jerk

  • @EliteSpartan663 soz man , just saying you were the one who insulted me in the first place calling me an english teacher , and then now you call me a jerk ?

  • @EliteSpartan663 Ahh dude he said he liked the song and then you critisised his spelling then called him an idiotic specimen... i think he has the right to call you a jerk and anyway everyone should just chill and enjoy the music.

  • I didn't even realize this was the guy from Red House Painters til I checked them out on wikipedia to find out their albums. Definitely can hear it now though.

  • This song is pretty much perfect

  • i listen to just about everything except rap, hiphop, n all that new stuff... not trying to say you suck if you listen to it, its your taste in music not mine....

  • Sutch a beutiful song Sun Kil Moon get my thumbs up who else? :)

  • the beauty of those last 2 minutes is unexplainable. It's like one of the best instrumental pieces of music ever for me.

  • i liked the lyrics to this band so much that is the only band i like that isnt death metal

  • @Ceaamjeeee i like this band so much, that they're the only band i do listen besides rap;)

  • @xdrkiller Way to play up to the stereotype.

  • The ending pushes me to the brink of tears. Oh man.

  • The beginning reminded me of Where Is My Mind from the Pixies, which is my favorite song. I can tell I'm gonna become a fan of this band already =]

  • i cant believe gear of war introduced me to this great band

  • @saintatwar i know what you mean. i listen to a lot of post hardcore and metalcore, but i love this band

  • his music is pure poetry

  • amazing song! really helps me appriciate my state of mind and my life right now.

  • Man it's a shame that a videogame trailer introduced me to this excelent band...

  • @Anzaldua3012 I would say, thanks video games for introducing me to this wonderful music.

  • @Anzaldua3012

How is it a shame? You got introduced to the music, which is good.

  • @Anzaldua3012 Lol the show Sons of Anarchy introduced me to the band so don't feel bad

  • @Anzaldua3012

how ? its just the way you found the band, your love to their songs is as true as everyone elses ;)

  • @Anzaldua3012 haha u are also here for GoW?? lol :S

  • @MrCKrool me too, and im not one bit ashamed to say it; im overjoyed i found this music, no matter how it came to be. i couldnt have asked for a greater reward for playing video games than being introduced to beautiful and breathtaking music. it began with chrono cross, and continues onward into the new-gen consoles with GoW. just one more reason im thankful to be a gamer.

  • @MrCKrool I am

  • @Anzaldua3012 It's not a shame, the best part about discovering new bands you like is finding bands by accident or in different ways.

  • @Anzaldua3012 no its not! If this music makes you feel great its not important how you found it! If you like it, you like it and THIS is what is important, not how you found it.

  • @Anzaldua3012 so...

  • @Anzaldua3012 agree

  • @Anzaldua3012 Why? The important thing is that you discovered the music, and like it I assume.

  • @Anzaldua3012 why would it be man? What is important is that now you know and enjoy this band. Nothing else.

  • @Anzaldua3012 I'm actually proud to say that :P I love this music. It's all good

  • @Anzaldua3012

Guy i think the same thing

  • @Anzaldua3012

I find it stupid that people think that finding a band from a certain source is a shame, lets say i found it accidentaly, so ? does that make me a more true fan then others ?

  • @Anzaldua3012 me too man. I'm not ashamed. The important thing is you're here now, and have a piece of serenity, if only momentarily.

  • @Anzaldua3012 What's important you found him no matter how awesome the Gears of War 3 commercial is, lol.

  • @Anzaldua3012

    haha it's same to me...

  • @Anzaldua3012 I think just shows their good taste in music :D

  • I thank gow for introducing me to this band, truely brilliant.

  • this song almost sounds like had a bad day... with the guitar ^_^

  • @mymothersmeatloaf and better

  • This band is great!

  • great song, Heron Blue is my favorite though

  • this is a good band... there is no song I don't like from these guys

  • Sun Kil Moon is like a more consistently mellow, slightly less folk-y counterpart to The Avett Brothers. Both are so great. If you like one, chances are you'll like the other.

If you crossed The Avett Brothers with Nick Drake, do you get Sun Kil Moon? Worth pondering.

  • @SpaceAndrew I will have to check Avett Brothers out, and I love Nick Drake!

  • Ty gears of war trailer

  • finally just like old times nt with all the crapy music of these days this way is an exception wohoooooo

  • After hearing the track heron blue from the gears trailer, and now this, I'm convinced in this band.

  • @A7XFan2245 yea im sure this band is gonna bet big now. btw A7X for life :)

  • this is ridiculously good

  • I think this just might be his chance at fame because of the Gears of War 3 trailer

  • @dfcrazydude

    sure hope so

  • @dfcrazydude well it got us interested lol

  • @dfcrazydude haha no kidding. That was major publicity there

  • I know it sounds really generic and corny to say that an album changed your life but this really did!!! Long live Mark!!

  • this type of melancholy reminds me of sunny day real estate.

  • His songs always make me think about someone leaving important things behind, and literally driving away, looking through the window... I have no idea why, but I love it.

  • i cant even say how much i love the last two minutes.

  • Same here. Scrumptiously satisfying. The guy is a unique musical genius, as people will still know a century from now.

  • i was a little disappointed with 'April'. As good as it was, i kind of wish Mark didn't revert back to the RHP styie of writing songs that overstay their welcome.

This song is great, but the last 2 or so minutes could have easily been jettisoned without effecting the mood and feel of the overall piece.

'Ghosts Of The Great Highway' is his best work IMO. Better than anything he recorded with RHP.

  • I think the last 2 minutes are the best part almost

  • i disagree. the changes in the last 2 minutes make the song for me. 'april' is SKM's best album yet, if only for 'tonight in bilbao.'

  • Can you recommend me good cds by this guy? I downloaded an album when he was with RHP but idk... And I'm too nervous to bite the bullet and buy one of his cds out of fear it'll suck.

  • if RHP wasn't your bag, try Sun Kil Moon 'Ghosts Of The Great Highway'. It features all the elements of his style, but in a more compact form. There is only one long song on there, and it's divided into 'movements' almost. it's not just riff or chord progression or melody played over and over.

If you don't like G.O.T.G.H, then his music isn't for you.

    peace

  • Baha, thanks. I'll give that a try. Btw my RHP experience is limited to literally one album. So, what's their best? I have April by Sun Kil Moon and it's just lovely, so...

  • @theoogabear You could also try Strand of Oaks.

  • I'd be happy to recommned the self titled RHP record with the Rollercoaster cover, or the Bridge cover. Same sessions, two albums. Down Colorfull Hill is very good too, as is the 4ad-issue 'Retrospective"...1996's "Songs For A Blue Guitar" is the one true bridge between old Kozelek and modern Kozelek. However, I should add, I love everything he does. But those mentioned, especially.

  • *Colorful

  • Well said. Sometimes he devolves into a very wan and and predictable kind of folk that leaves me dry. A little guitar dirt always serves him well.

  • Comment removed

  • Lol...

Actually, he does the backing vocals for a version of this song...not sure where you can find it though.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, it's in the chorus...of this version.

  • It's in this one actually :)

  • Yeah...

I only realised that a few days ago, lol.

  • this one. chorus

  • i want sam beam and mark kozelek to work together at some point. or just be a part of the same concert

  • i fucking love this song

  • agreed

  • I love Kozelek's new stuff, but part of me wishes he'd forget this understated pretty stuff and go back to the wrenching angst of his first few releases (i.e. songs like "Medicine Bottle," "24" and "Funhouse"). Oh well...guess he's grown up. This song's great, though

  • Best Kozelek song in years. A pity the rest of the album isn't as good. Still, it's great to hear this song again.

  • Is he a ghost in this song? For example:

"I haunt the streets of San Francisco

Watch over loved ones and old friends

I see them trough their living room windows

    Shaken by fear and worries

I want them to know how I love them so"

I was just wondering the other day when listening and curious what others thought. Regardless it's a great song

  • haha someone gave you a thumbs down so I corrected this. I like your interpretation.

  • i think its about being removed and inable to fully communicate

  • Does anybody know in which song appears Will Oldham's back vocals?

  • I think it's "like the river" not 100% sure though but it sounds like him

  • smooth like velvet ...

  • sends a deep feeling of longing for something more in this life down my spine

  • Mark Kozelek may never get the public recognition or fame, but he is without doubt the best singer/songwriter of my lifetime.

  • and mine. Great comment

  • Thats okay most the public wouldnt know what to do with this after being brainwashed by the radio. I like it the way it is, more for us!

  • @kathybates1980 gears 3 is coming they will rise in popularity

  • @kathybates1980 heck yes man, him and trent reznor. best artists of our time

  • @kathybates1980

    1) His album Tiny Cities was just a cover of modest mouse songs. Although I admit he transformed them into something entirely different and much more beautiful than as they were originally written, he did not write them.

    2) Sam Beam is easily the best songwriter of this generation due to the scope and measure of his work.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mark, but I can't honestly believe that his body of work could hold a candle to that of Iron and Wine let alone Sufjan Stevens.

  • @Ordinare I have to disagree with you, although these are just opinions of course...

I think Sun Kil Moon/Mark have a raw sound of sincerity that Iron and Wine and Sufjan Stevens just don't have.

  • One of the best songs ever

  • This is epic. One of my favorite songs by Kozelek. I also think Ben Gibbard's backing vocals fit in perfectly.

  • a nine minute opening is classic kozelek only he can pull something off like that these days, so no suprise there. The song is great, but I think what is really cool about the song is the last two minutes when the band just goes in to the jam session. Those two minutes in my opinion are the highlight of the song. It's almost unexpected, Mark Kozelek never fails to amaze me.

  • "They fill the foggy days

    that hide the hills away

    that steal our time

    they are the picturesque night

    the casting city lights

    on the bay flowing

    into the ocean glowing"

    Such a beautiful song.

  • Great, soothing track, good album.

  • This disc IS amazing.......even better than" Ghosts " And anyone who has'nt already, you must give Nick Drake a listen .... lots of similarities...... i wonder if or how much Mark was influenced by him.

  • @thejester55 Mark had never even HEARD of drake until journalists compared the two. Crazy, huh?

  • least there are a few musicians who can write a flawless album, this is the best albums i have got recently, i think the only other was jesu's lifeline ep. i think tonight the sky i sthe best track of it.

  • Masterpiece.

  • April IS a great album. The lyrics to this song kill me every time I hear it.

    Kudos!

  • Fanbloodytastic!

  • i couldnt agre more with all of Abs points :)

    kudos
