Most politicians, including Obama, based their politics on some kind of fear just to get elected. I do not think that Obama will do everything what he is saying in his speaches. It is different to be able to motivate people than to face politicians/lawmakers and solve problems in Washington D.C. The war in Iraq was a big challenge and by not supporting surge and by having plan to pull the troops out of Iraq tells something about Hillary's judgment.The war in Iraq has been Bush's war.

At the time he made that speech he was running for re-election in the Illinois State Senate. He was advised against making the speech as Illinois is a conservative state and was in lock step with George Bush at the time. Obama said that if he had to change a speech just to get re-elected and not tell what he really thinks, then re-election would not be worth it. He showed inner strength and conviction. Hillary didn't agree with the support for the war, but out of political fear caved in.
