  • Thank you, PreacherNorm. This gives me much insight on the matter that I'm confused about at the moment.

  • Mind you, doesn't the Bible say "Faith without works is dead?" (Jms 2:17) When you think about it, why wouldn't "confessing with your mouth" and "praying the Lord's Prayer" be considered "works?" Because, after all, they are considered faith responses. The CoC sees Baptism as part of that faith response. Of course, one must be careful not to go into legalism and "salvation by law," but why couldn't baptism be included in the plan of salvation along with the sinner's prayer?

    God bless,

    MrC

  • Hey Norm where is you "authority" for these "works of faith" and "works of merit" which you speak of ??? I did a word search in the Bible and guess what - NEITHER ARE THERE - where is your authority for making this stuff up?

Let's see what the Bible Says?

    Works is mentioned 67 times.

    Works of Merit - ZERO

    Works of Faith - ZERO

Here is what the Bible says: "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves" and you qualify!!!!

  • You begin here placing works as a fruit of grace and also that we have nothing to boast about because we are doing what we should, obedience. Mercy is a grace. Our Lord shows us that while God created us without us, He will not sanctify us without us, that is without our co-operation with His grace. You do seem to attribute all to God and hence bring to light the first part of the beatitude, blessed are the poorl in spirit . God Bless - Sue
