  • lol me and Toms plan is to make this guy a star...

  • nice to see a young person playing that style...great job young man...

  • You are proof that good music and an appreciation for it are timeless. If you aren't doing it already, you should look around for some kind of music in the park summer series. You are more than good enough to solo a set in a show line up.

  • if you want to play jazz you need to learn all the modes and arpeggios everywhere on the neck...Your chord work is honestly better than I was expecting....try not to extend your licks so long, let them breath, for example; the pentatonic lick you used at the end didn't add anything because it was just cluttered nonsense, try to avoid those tangents. This song just jams on Bm7 for the solo section, learn a melodic minor and throw it in, plus aeolian, dorian ect....

  • @thejazzman8 Hey Man I appreciate the thoughts. One thing to remember, this video is from over three years ago, I was still a young buck who was still trying to cram a bunch of knowledge into one song, I was learning a lot of stuff but definitely had a lot to learn about subtlety and restraint, as well as more chords. As far as the middle section, that came out of nowhere during the recording, just decided that it needed some improv, little did I know that is hard to do in 5/4 time :) Thanks

  • Love it .. great taste compared to the trash screaming noise put to cd today.

  • Dude if this is three years ago, you must be really really mind blowing right now!! Anyways you did a good job here!

  • sweeet

  • amazing guitar play

  • well done

  • I wish you had just ended it with a big flurrish that would have been awesome but instead just faded out into nothing :( peace x

  • Would you please answer my second question too; do you know how old is this song?

  • "Take Five" was written by the great alto saxophonist Paul Desmond and first released in 1959 by the Dave Brubeck Quartet. In 1961 it became the first jazz single to sell a million copies.

  • @dabiri58 I believe its from the 50s or 60s. View DAve Brubeck quartet Take Five.

  • Thanks for the information. i appreciate a lot. I always would liked to know the owner of this wonderful song!

  • great work

  • Do you know who made this wonderful old song ?

I remember a name but not sure. Evejinio !!

  • Dave Brubeck

  • Actually Paul Desmond.

  • Written by Paul Desmond, and performed by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

  • BEAST

  • Nice!!! great work!

  • nice playing, little sloppy tho... keep it tight

    Pippbpx Germany

    Peace and Love,

    Terry

  • riktigt bra spelat

  • nice ;)

  • That is some good playing dude!!

  • nice!

What brand and what model is the guitar because it sounds really nice.

  • yeah tab it up!! i learned a version but it sounds really sparse in comparison and i have to have someone else play the rythm or pre-record it... this is really nice x x

  • Very nice Lucas!which artcore model is that and how do you rate it?

  • you make it rock!

  • Dude, nice. Come over and jam again.

  • really good

  • hey wow. you do a great job, you've got good tastes in music and play really well. best i've found so far on youtube. i like that your just kinda jammin it out

  • this gives me so much joy everytime im watching it

  • this is so beautifull

  • man that's awesome!!

you got any tabs or notes?

  • take a five :)

  • zajebiście! awesome!

  • great player , congrats

  • Give the boy another 5 years and look out world....He's killer

  • yea he is, look at his song cold tide. its great

  • outstanding

  • Bravo kid !! keep it going that was good stuff....

  • Great show! That 5/4 timing can be a bit tricky. I once played in a jazz band that did this song (I play bass). It took the drummer a long tiome to get a handle on the timing. You seem to have it down well.

Love the freestyle toward the end! Keep up the great work!

    Rick - Wisconsin - USA

PS: by the way, great jazz tone from that guitar!

  • great! now I love the song even more !

    x

  • Love when you hit the whammy bar especially. Great playing mate!

  • nice playing, sounds good. i give this vid 5 stars.

  • Fantastic

I Could lisning that next 30 minutes

  • Lucas.Wow.You look so young and this vid. is a year old.

    Have you done more this?

  • please answear my question: How many years have you been playing? you are amazing, I wonder if you played it from a real/fake book or just by ear, in case you did the last, how much does it took?

  • Thank you so very much for all the kind feedback. I've been playing for about 5 years I believe however this video was about a year ago...I did it pretty much all by ear due to my lack of funds to purchase tab books, hence the "variations" It took me about 2 hours of listening and playing a long to work it all out and then random practice at various times to play it naturally.

    Thank you

    -Lucas

  • you little devil, you play very well.

  • Great stuff!

  • keep on! it's hard to play this one on the guitar, but a bit more precision would be helpfull for the sound!

    greetings

  • nice, really enjoyed it, my favorite out of a lot of great ones, great natural feel, i like the way it has a life of its own, it doesn't feel or come across like a tight well-practiced exercise, it comes across like gifted natural talent and a feel for music as something free and open, yet focused and grounded, nice balance, tones, dynamics Personally i love the technique as well.

  • dude please send me a link or something for that tab please that sounds great!

  • You're better than me.

I can't get my fingers to play Chet Atkins style, no matter how hard I try. I also really like that jam you did at the end there.

    And the guitar.

And how you store your picks on the tailpiece.

  • not bad not bad but you have to work on your fingerstyle technique its going to hurt you in the long run having the fingers without any real organization it starts to sound rushed when you are only using the M finger for melody. that said it was still a very pleasing rendition.

  • you are a real great strong player. The best of those that i've just seen here

  • Yall need to lay off a little! He just seems nervous. It takes alot of patience and skill to pull this off. So, give him the credit he deserves. Nice job!

  • nice guitar too

  • very nice. you should try to get a little more sustenance on the stressed notes though. you know, a little more soul and length

  • You should practice more!

  • It sounds pretty damn good, specially the ending. I wish I could do that. By the way, you look a little bit nervous at some points but still sounds great.

  • amazing...really.;]

  • Very well done!

  • Kind of embarrassing to play the way I do, since I've been playing since before you were born! Very nicely done!

  • damn! well done man, keep it up

    peace

  • Wow loved it :-)

  • Good take on Take Five. The ending was awesome too. Keep it up!

  • Cool Daddy. I have an art core and Love it and them. Rock on lad

  • Hello! I really enjoyed your interpretation of this Dave Brubeck's piece.

  • really cool, man.

  • This is AWESOME!Jazz on Lucas! :)

  • awesome!

  • very nice playing!!

    I play"take five"too.(Though my playing is not so good///)

but You are much good better than me.

  • i allways see you video

  • good work !

  • Hell YES!! Keep working on it!! great job!!

  • MUY BUENA GUITARRA,MUY BUENA CANCION

  • chingonsisimo

  • how can I find this songs tab

  • I don't have a specific tab of this one but if you search for a Chet Atkins version you will find it very similar in the main sections as that is what I have based it on. Thank you :)

  • would sound 100% better if you get it to swing better. But not bad, nice playing.

  • seriously nice dude well done :)

strange that wenever brubeck plays take five live its always way faster than a recorded version

  • hahaha lucas thats awsome..tho u did it like a wiked long time ago....im getting confirmd this year out there lol..

  • great performance!!

  • You're really talented, you should be really proud of yourself. Learning two different parts to a song and putting them together, great!

  • Luke--you should post a new version of this as a video response and just edit your description to link to the new one.

  • I've been playing along to your version of take 5 on the double bass. You and I should start a band! lol jks.

No but seriously great playing. I'm thinking of getting one of these guitars. What would you recommend?

  • Hey thanks to all yall :) I posted this way back in the day I should do some more guitar stuff on here! Get an Ibanez Artcore AF75 T, they are so cheap and so nice to play and I swear I would have been willing to pay double what I payed for it!

  • You obviously understand this song completely or you couldn't get it to go where you lead it.

You have at least a favorite on my page and thank you.

  • I`ve also got an ibanez WZ52180 it`s so cool!

I was not really cheap but that´s ok.

I get also teached this song at the moment!

  • fucking amazing

  • nice!

  • Great work on that Chet Atkins Remake, MIght I ask WHERE DID YOU GET THE TABS! I've been looking everywhere, and I don't feel like doing it all by hear, Thanks!

  • I learned it by ear, I once downloaded a tab for it when I wanted to learn it but it was so badly done I decided to just learn it by ear, which is why it is slightly different than other versions. I don't have any tabs for this particular version, sorry.

and Thank you all for listening! :)

  • Excellent!

Fantastic work doing all the parts of the song by yourself, that is not an easy task.

  • i like it heaps i got that guitar but in shitty red i wanted that one u got but they were out of stock and i was impatient

  • Not too bad.. mi hermano es mas bueno.

  • Cara muito bom. Muito legal mesmo, um dos melhores vídeos de som do youtube....parabéns.

  • hehe a little to much echo in the room, but pretty good video! n' nice playin..

  • Great playing, our fine transatlantic brother :) Do some more videos, really cool to see you perform...

  • Great sound...I just purchased the Artcore AFS75T same model as yours and a Vox Valvtronix amp...trying to get the same sound.....which amp are you using? Nice work keep it up.

  • I've got a Fender Acoustisonic Junior 30 Watt. Middle pickup with tone and vol cranked (probably)

  • AAAAHHHHAAA, THUMBPICK!

  • You've got some rough spots, but it's very nice overall.

  • Well emixolydian,if he's got some rough spots i can hardly wait to be good enough to have his rough spots!lol

  • nice

  • pretty good :)

  • que bien tocas mucha inspiracion y el sonido es increible

  • This is one of the best guitar Take Five versions I've heard. I especially like the solo part. I actually like it more than Benson's version.

It would benefit from being played a bit faster and timing was not always perfect, but it is a very difficult piece anyway.

Btw, I like the sound of your gear. Invest in some acoustic dampening of your room though, there's too much reverb.

  • some pieces can be covered on whatever instrument, but to me this is just sax or piano. Just my opinion

  • Im not sure if I agree with that. Piano on melody sounds too stale to me. I think this is a pretty good arrangement, but it really shines with jazz tone, ala george benson or pat metheny.

  • I'm probably gonna have the agree with you on that, although not a bad job on a tough piece.

Just a tip endlessepic. Share out the duty between the fingers of your right hand. Your middle finger is doing a lot of the work and although its sounding pretty good, you'll get a far smoother sound if you give the index finger a bit more action. For example - if there are a number of consecutive notes on the B string, alternate fingers.

  • Inspiration!

  • J'adore, en particulier la fin. Bravo

  • you kinda lost the 5/4 rhythm in the middle bit pretty good... its hard to get i know myself from playing it on sax and piano but if you can record yourself playing just the main chords then you will get it better by playing the melody along to the chords

  • i meant only thing for now, metronome, practice and probably teacher also

  • good good, you need practice that's the only thing ;)

  • awesome man, keeping it alive

  • How can i learn this?

  • i can't pick with all my fingers like that

  • yeah well i started like a month ago so none taken

  • Hey Lucas I bought the Chet Atkins book with this in it and you are doing a few things different in this piece. Your fingerng is a bit more convienent... Where'd you get your version....I could cite specifics but I'm at work and dont have the book in front of me,,, Please advise, I've already practiced this a few times but would prefer the version your performing. THanks

  • Hey Lucas Nice playing. Sounds great. How do you like your guitar? I'm thinking about buying one. Any quirks with it? Keep up the great work

  • Buenísima versión. fantástico, Lucas.

  • Dude are you using a thumb pick? If so that's awesome cuz it sounds just great.

  • Sure am. Thumbpicks are the way to go! (Although I frequently also use flatpicks and just bare fingers at times)

  • GReat!*Man!**!Total!*Awsome!>>!:*

  • I enjoyed this. Nice work.

  • Multitalented! Great!

  • were did u get the tabs for this??? it's awsome!

  • nice work!!! Im looking into buying an artcore af75 and listening to play this guitar has made me whant it even more nice work once again

  • I bought an af75 about a year ago and love it. I play blues jazz classic rock and old country and love mine.

  • Guess what, if he or she posted in German maybe is because they can't speak English. You know, some people on this planet don't speak English :-)

Asking it in German is more polite :-)

  • nice!! hey is the fingerboard and the neck confortable it seems like a little rough?????

  • Not an entirely successful version, but about 50 times better than what I could do. You just need to woodshed it a little more and wait for your playing to mature. So keep pushing. You're going to be a hell of a player someday if you want it bad enough.

  • I've just begun playing guitar at age 57. I enjoyed this very much.

  • you sure can play! cool!

  • I hate U (J/K) :P!!! I wanna play like that! dude.. really nice

  • Definitely RalAzir! Hook it up to a tube amp and you can pull the sweetest blues tone out of these things, incredibly smooth but edgy tone. Also you can even shred a lil with the right amp. Good guitars

  • im in love wit that guitar...

  • Wow! Are u in a band? You will become a good jazz guitarist. Keep the good work!

  • Hey thanks to all the comments! I play a little in a band but mostly do solo stuff. Check out me on myspace.

  • Very nice...You have a very Tuck Andress feel there at the end!

  • This guy's a good songwriter and he's got a great voice too... worth checking out his myspace page

  • Very nice. I'm impressed with your calmness and your playing so much that at 48.. I decided to learn this to !

  • Awesome ending!

  • very cool ending, harmonics, style. Artcores are underrated. Sorry, not a constructive comment...nothing to suggest!

  • Etwas anders als üblich, doch Respekt. Super gut gespielt.Schön zu hören.

  • Terrific playing and you are so young, you will be astonishing in the years to come!

  • *Me =D

  • Haha, that was really good. My and some people from school played it. Me on flute and also a paino player, trumpet, sax, and a drummer.

  • Very nice version. A little sloppy on the tempo maybe. Slow it down 15-20 bpm and then bring it back up slowly :)

  • You should tab that version and put it on UltimateGuitar!

  • search "chet atkins take five guitar pro tab" in google.

  • Very good, difficult song to play well by yourself. By the way, the reharmonizations you go into around 1:15, what were those? How did you come up with them? They sound very cool. That is one skill I envy of great guitar players, the ability to reharmonize progressions on the fly.

  • Those reharmonizations are simple chords put on top of differant bass notes, (i.e. D/E) it sounds really good in the swinging tempo

    Thank you.

  • I'm new to electric guitars and had this guitar recommended as one to consider. I must say your demo can sell that guitar!

  • Thank you for all the kind comments and thoughts. Yes I love the artcore. I bought it a few years ago and have never regretted it. One caveat...put your strings on super tight...this thing does not hold tuning well. Other then that It is great!

  • I love Artcores. I have one but mine is a lot thicker. Oh and if you don't already i would put flatwound (or ribbonwound) strings on that. In my opinion they sound much better. Nice playing by the way

  • Is that a double jet Gretsch?! Lucky.

    Awesome, awesome rendition.

  • An Ibanez Artcore. I just ordered one, it'll be here Thursday. They rock!

  • perfectomundo, cool outro

  • great man!

  • nice rendition!

  • post some man man woman!!

  • Alright... The solo wasn't in 5/4 by the way... And the head was shaky.

  • That made me smile.
