No one chased anyone out of Bhutan, they left cos UN was giving a lot of aid and also living expenses (around US 200 per month per person) which was a lot of money at that time. They went cos they thought they will have a better life, but things didnt work out when UN reduced the aid. We still have lots of lhotsampa brothers and sisters in our country.

Do you know the fact ? Bhote People of sikkim are also called DENZONG-PA, Bhote people of bhutan called DRUK-PA, Bhote people of Tibet called BHOED-PA. But all are Bhote or Bhotia's of Himalaya Region from mount K2 Pakistan to upper Burma. Bhotia lost kingdom in Tibet by China, Kingdom of Sikkim/Denzong by India and Kingdom of Mustang by Nepal. now i can say LONG LIVE Bhutan/DrukYul the only Bhotia kingdom in this world.
