hello im trying to make a smoke mixture with kclo3 but there is one problem i cannot find a formula for white smoke. ive made the smoke bombs with nitrate but ive heard and seen videos of chlorate based ones and they are much better. any information on the subject would be a helpful step in the right direction

@panzuman Cannonfuse(dot)com has a great list of compositions. There is a section dedicated to smokes. Just go the the pyro info tab and there will be links on the right hand side to either view the compositions on a website or download them.

specifically you need colored powdered dye, like in hobbyshops

Nighthawk is right on the kno3 sugar you will get some smoke but nuthin like what you will get from the correct formula and the food coloring will just be burnt up.

lol last new years I bought a few similar smoke bombs, and 2 out of the 3 I purchased just blew up in our faces.. pretty sure they were kno3 based... so its not that surprising.

Can't believe these guys are bashing you about store bought smoke bombs. Nitrate based smoke bombs are extremely hard to get right, and when you do they never look as good as chlorate ones. Unless you need a 100 pounds of smoke mix I would suggest skylighter's smoke mix. Just mix the chlorate and fuel mixture and you are ready to go. Besides guys, maybe nighthawkinlight didn't feel like spending several hours to assembly a rainbow of smoke bombs for a CHAIN FUSING video. Nice video NHL.

@laurentprodz Not quite true. Nitrate based smokes burn too hot to produce colored smoke. You cannot simply add food coloring to nitrate/sugar comp and get a color change.

i live in holland and we use fertilizer whit amonium nitrate but we bareley use colours cause dutch smokebombs are used to create mayhem so no colours needed

There are some nitrate based compositions involving wax that have sought slight color changes, copletely noticable ones, but it can be hard to make

@Nighthawkinlight, actually if u use a smoke dye in kno3 smokes they actually will dye it the color, but its not worth it the colors dies off alot and can turn brown+chlorate based colored smokes is alot easier. sorry i was just trying to say its possible your vids are great :)

it is not food coloring it is Hobby Powder dye that is how you get a different color smoke
