@jaden20004499 to learn what "Mormon" means, look at the sites mormon.org or lds.org. "Mormon" is a nickname for "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." In that church we have a book of scripture called "The Book of Mormon." Mormon was the name of an ancient prophet and he is the one who originally put together all the writings that are in "The Book of Mormon." He is one of the main authors in the book. Somehow his name became the nickname for the church and its members.
I often find what is essentially myself in our father the heavenly lord jesus christ. I find myself in him and I continue to grow and grow out through the godhead. This video uplifts me in a way that I feel rivals what I feel for our savior when I see myself in him. All of us should pray like this more often. Amen.
I think this video is very nice :) All of these types of church videos are super awesome! Even as a 17 year old I enjoy watching this because I know what I believe! Not to mention, the church knows how to make awesome videos :)
Thank you to whom keeps this channel and videos filled with the spirit and truthfulness of God The Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost and our Heavenly Father's Gospel. :) This message brings comfort that even though at the time we may have eaten our first marshmallow we can learn and be better and also to find patience. It is essentially through the Godhead that we can achieve our greatest potential. May we all continue to grow and find ourselves in Jesus Christ our Savior amen. :)
I remember this talk! The overlay of the study was very neat to watch and it made me wonder what goes through their minds when deciding to wait or not. Some simply played with the marshmallow. Others watched it.
Wonderful message. I just had a lesson in patience this evening. I was trying to finish a knitting project. I ended up messing it up and ruining the project. I was heart broken. It took me months to knit the particular project. I showed a lot of patience with it till the end only to have it ruined. *sighs* Even in the most patient of projects even let down can happen. It's part of life. But in the process of ruining a project. I learned a lot more on knitting than I had expected. :)
Good message, but President Uchtdorf was a member of the Luftwaffe, was he not? The portrayal of his experience in the military looked like it was an American outfit.
i'm one of those kids eating the marshmallow right away. i know i have to be patient and endure to the end, but i can't seem to do that. well, i will do my best!
While this marshmallow test does well to illustrate his point, I'd like to know more about the lives of those children. One reason we tend to want things now is that we quickly learn, even as children, that there are no guarantees in life. We learn early that people break promises. So, when we have objects or opportunities placed before us, our experience may influence us to take advantage while we can. Patience, a lot of times in this life, is NOT profitable or wise.
@eatcarpet Hi:) The marshmallows in this video was probably bigger then in the original test. And how a grown up would think compared to a 4 year old would think is not the same. (all the 4 year olds liked masmallows alot, i would think, otherwise what would be the point of the test) :). And the person that did the study could see a difference when i checked up on the 4 year olds, long time after, in their lives. The children that had waited, had better jobs etc. (they had worked harder). :)
ohsheet86 - This is a Stanford study. I'm sure they took into account those children who do not like marshmallows, and did not include any of them in their study. Simple evaluation in choosing the children in the first place. Anyone would agree that some people are better able to wait for a better deal in the end.
Not much of a marshmellow person myself but if I was to receive 2 bowls of ravioli instead of 1, you know I'll be patient :). Good message though. I like the Shaytard family on youtube... Look them up and watch a few if you like this video.
What I enjoy is the openness here. Sometimes we don't understand why things don't happen as we feel they should. Thank you for helping us to understand patience, from a realistic perspective.
I love the video, and Elder Uchtorf. It needs to be pointed out that the study is not necessarily about a trait of moral character. Just because a child has ADHD does not mean that he or she lacks moral character. Some disorders make it more difficult to wait, but the children who struggle with these disorders are not any less good than other children.
Sorry Camberus, but 1) Elder Uchdorf did not say anything about moral traits, nor did he conduct the experiment. All he said was that the people doing the study found that those who were able to wait had more success in life than those otherwise. He did not suggest anything. And having ADD (not ADHD - this has nothing to do with hyperactivity) does not make you unaccountable nor mentally retarded. WE with ADD are PERFECTLY capable of making logical choices.
This talk was a great help to me during the past year as I dealt with unemployment and struggled to find ways to suport my family. After nearly a year and a half, I finally got a great full-time job doing what I love, and living in a great neighborhood with good church members closeby. I definitely recieved that second marshmallow!
The sister who gave the lesson in Relief Society this past Sunday told the marshmallow study story at the beginning. Very interesting and very telling.
That little girl at the end is spectacularly adorable...she is SOOO happy! I hope that I can be patient in all things and keep hope in the Savior, Jesus Christ, and be happy and have joy at the last day as well.
Subtitles well done, my daughter is deaf and does not always understand what is said in services so she stopped going. We need more of this on our church videos so the deaf can be included. In New Zealand videos with subtitles are hard to get. 10 out of 10.
I have a blog titled Waiting Upon the Lord. It has a different perspective, using "waiting upon" as in 'to serve, to bin in attendance to' ... however, as this is the other side of the same coin, I simply must add it to my blog.
A virtue heavily needed in our instant gratification, "I'll take in on credit" society, and one I need to develop a lot further myself. The concept that patience is a direct predecessor of success is completely true.
It says this guy is an apostle... According to the scriptures an apostle must have bore witness to the life, the cruxifiction , and the resurrection of Christ. That gentleman really does not look that old- good message though
@singlewing44 The whole message was a testimony and a witness of Christ, I know this man to be an apostle of Jesus Christ. if you would like to hear more from this apostle of the Lord feel free to visit lds.org of mormon.org for alot more videos and teachings of Jesus Christ. I Agree also it is a good message :) God Bless.
@singlewing44: He does have the title of apostle for the Mormon church, which in no way diminishes the important role of the original apostles during Christ's ministry. Apostle means "one sent forth", whom the original apostles were Christ's closest disciples, and who he sent forth to represent Him after His ascension. (Mark 16:20). Pres. Uchtdorf fills a similar role, in testifying of Christ while filling a leadership role in the Mormon Church. I agree, it is a great message.
@singlewing44 Who is to say he didn't? That self same Bible speaks of visions and revelations of things past, present and future. Only God truely knows the extent of a man's knowledge, and the only way to know if this man truely is an apostle is to study the fruits, and ask the source of all knowledge if he is. And yes, it is a good message.
Don't we all appreciate people who are patient with us? Aren't we all glad God is patient with us? We do all need the faith and patience to continue keeping the commandments even when we are not sure why things happen the way they do. and I hope they have marshmallows in heaven. I love marshmallows.
Great reminder! I am an instant gratification type of person but also know that good things come to those who wait. A good saying I like is not only endure to the end but ENJOY to the end.
Great message. :)
