U carry hoses short distance, we hike them in rough n rugged terrain, u go home to see your families everyday an night, we are away from ours days weeks months, u wear masks to breath clean oxygen, we breath it right in, the smoke the hot air from the fire. You fear what you fight, we fight what u fear. We walk right into the fire, flames from hell
wow, there really is stuff on youtube with integrity in comments. I like your video. I am looking to change my career into a wildland firefighter this summer in Nevada. Wish me luck. It looks like my kind of thing!
Air support was to save your ass! Water drops with fire retardant were a blessing when dropped directly on you. Fought and survived when some didn't. My hat is off to the pilots that saved me more than once. I'm 51 years old, no water except what was in your canteen. No food for days and no air lift out. I fought with the USS Shenandoah military on one fire. They thought we were nuts and told me they would rather fight he enemy than a fire and they bailed. 5 men against all odds.
is a wildland firefighter that Parachutes into a remote area to combat Wildfires, The ordinary risk of a parachute jump, the adverse conditions for the jump, and the lack of resources for firefighting and rescue once on the ground in a remote area give smokejumping a reputation as exceedingly dangerous work. !!
Sorry to tell you, ground crews were not available, maybe now days. Not when I was a fire fighter. Stitched up my own wounds and fought for several days without sleep. Small fires, BS. Mineral Mountain complex and Yellowstone were my credits. Lost 4 crew members and yet people just watch the news and don't know what really goes into this trade. My scars are all I have to my witness of my time spent. Remind me I made it out and bow my head to my fallen brothers.
I grew up around this wildland firefighting and i want to thank you for showig people what they have to deal with and the fact they love what they do day in and day out I RESPECT ALL FIREFIGHTERS AND SMOKEJUMPERS AROUND THE WORLD THANK YOU :)
As an art student and a wild land firefighter awesome job on the video its very much appreciated by all firefighters everywhere! My dad was a Hotshot and as his daughter I'm fallowing in his footsteps. Its a very proud part of my life to be a part of and knowing people appreciate us for our work keeps us going and loving what we do. Thank you!
As a former female firefighter out of Calif. [9 yrs.], I thank you. My career began w/Ventura County FD, & Los Padres National Forest as my backyard...I can appreciate the tenor of the photographs, the atmosphere & conditions. My sister was a Forest Service firefighter. To you smoke jumpers? I've always respected your bravery, your courage. Although no longer a firefighter, I wish my fellow brother- & sister firefighters God's Blessings on your lives, and hope that you always come home. Be safe.
Thanks, I have been trying to get many first responders together in one area, and collaborate. Many places that offer something like this isnt free, and in my opinion, collaborating on personal and public safety should be free.
for my brother in fire thank you for the video keep it up. us in the firefighting volunteer and paid we love the support of the public and people like you. i cant meet in person but id shake you by the hand. thanks and god bless
Exactly Wild land firefighters do more work than structure fire fighters, 70% of our calls are not paramedic related, but I am not knocking my structure brothers, just saying that when people think of Fire Fighters the first thing they think of is a ladder truck and a house on fire, there are more of us and we do a lot of work that needs to be recognized.
well put. i was a volunteer firefighter for quite a number of years in australia and my brigade, we only dealt with grass fires, yeah we did have trucks but they were only equipped for grass fires...
I really want to get into smokejumping when I'm older, seems hard. I have a science teacher who also teachs about Wildland Firefighting, he used to be one.
I do a smokejumper type job in the Air Force. I have to say this is a jaw-dropping tribute to smokejumpers and wildland firefighters! Simply the best!
Nice soundtrack!!!

@664FREEDOM Typical smokejumper fires are small (under several acres), isolated, and in mountainous or very remote terrain.
Once on the ground, smokejumpers normally use hand tools such as pulaskis (a combination ax and mattock),
shovels, chainsaws and portable pumps to attack the fire.
If their initial attack fails, reinforcements can be called in, such as engine crews, hotshots, and local handcrews.
