  • for the memotron you have to buy an extra couple of hundred bucks of CDs to get all the sounds. i mean, what's up with that. i know such a small production specialized keyboard has to be expensive but come on. clavia is the only company actually providing sounds online. they don't provide compatibility of all sounds across all models but at least the commercial model of providing sounds online seems to be working for them.

  • @trogular The memotron has almost same controlers as the real mellotron. You can mix 2 sounds out of 3, adjust the tone and pitch-bend on it. This is a big advantage for me, a serious tron purist : ) BTW, now my memotron's guts is in an M400 style casing so that it looks like a real thing.

  • i cant see how could the memotron price be justify... for a real analog mellotron cool, but this is just a digital sound library

  • @mynmyself Yeah, I played real ones many times. Of course I'm not satisfied with the Memotron sound, ha ha... The Memotron has no wobble, no warm overdrive, no touch sensitivity.

  • How much did that cost you?

  • Nice Rickenbacker basses, and a nice tron! You are a one-man prog band!

  • Thank you! I'm a multi-instrumentalist mainly play the bass. By the way, my Memotron is now in Mellotron M400-replica case. I'll show you someday or see my Led Zeppelin tribute band vidios. It's featured on "Kashmir" and "Thank You".

  • Man!... That i was exactly think about that Memotron!!!

Will be awesome to put it on a M-400 case... don't forget to add weight on the bottom base...to not flip over..;)

By the way, if you have no room for a Re-201...just go on settings of your Memotron and put the sustain to the Max!... this way it will act like a space echo!

  • OK, I remember it. Also I'll try to put the sustain to the max. Thanks!

  • Would you happen to know the chord names?

  • I have a Japanese sheet music. It's very strange chord progression, isn't it?

  • Yes, I think so. But RE-201 is too big and heavy for my room... By the way, I'm having my Memotron customized. It'll be assemblied in a special-built M400 type case!

  • Add a Rolland RE-201 or 501 space echo on your Memotron...you'll be amazed!

  • Yes, and the bass notes were played by Mike Rutherford on MOOG TAURUS BASS or other bass pedals(or fuzz-bass) in that era(1973-1977). Tony hated the brass sound of Mellotron because it contains some out-of-tune notes. So Tony stopped using violin/brass unison sound after he began to use the model 400 Mellotron.

  • The M400 I played had the same problem, brass sectino was way out. I have samples and they're not too bad (no pitch correction either)

    this is very good

  • Because of the pitch problem of the brass sound, Streetly Electronics made "Watcher Mix" sound, I guess ; )

  • Mellotrons are making a comeback, if indeed they ever went away. If i am ever able to buy a real one i will

  • Cool! I like how you added the RMI.

  • RMI's low notes sound like Mellotron's "Bass Accordion" that Tony Banks had used. From 1972-1977 that Tony played the RMI, he'd actually perfomed this song by playing unison of Mellotron 400 and Hammond T-112 on stage.

  • Really? Thanks for the reply!
