Great song on that Sun 78 and that record player has a very nice sound for as small as it is. I have two Sun 78 records, one is I don't care if the sun don't shine by Evlis Presley.
I've got this on a London American ep called Hillbilly Rock. I got it circa 1959, other tracks are, Rockhouse, Your're My Baby and Down The Line.
The label is maroon with the gold lettering and the centre is intact. I got it cos my mate worked in a record shop and he ordered it on spec when Roy Orbison was virtually unknown.
Well I think it's much more fun to play records, than just press a buttom on a MP3 or CD player. Records also have a feel that a plastic CD or even worse an invisible MP3 dosen't have.
Interesting. This 78 version sounds a bit different from the version I first heard on a radio show some years ago. Sounds a lot hotter in feel. This was Orbison's very first chart record from 1956.
I've got this on je-wel label 78 before the sun one, in unplayed condition but have nothing to play it on! The B side is tryin' to get to you on this earlier one.
Who's playing lead guitar, Carl Perkins? Anybody know?
axsys212 10 months ago
@axsys212 Mr. Orbison himself. He played lead guitar on most of his early songs.

@collect45 Wow, never thought of Roy as a lead player. This is really good.

You might heard the version Roy recorded at Norman Petty studios in Clovis some months before he went to SUN. They are very like though.
collect45 4 years ago
The version I heard, if my memory is correct, featured a more prominent piano.

Most likely you heard the version by "The Teen Kings".

Probably. I really like this version on Sun better after listening to it a couple of times.
