  • See those sparks drops cammera

  • schweet

  • I wish I was on that train!

  • cool lol

  • This is awsome! Why don't we ever do anything like this in the UK.. Oh wait "elf and Saftey" would get in the way, and the locos could only do 12.1MPH Tops, incase they hit a fly, or the "Green Nazis" would come out in force about Burning coal... Blah Blah! :( Such a shame!

Total Respect to the Drivers and Engineers of these fantastic Locos!!

Anyone up for a Standard Class 5 vs a GWR Hall/Castle? :-) Hell I'd pay a lot of dosh for a ride on that!! :)

  • You got SMOKED !!!!!

    xP

  • the old dude look like he always wanted to do that lol

  • great video, what country is this?

  • Australia. In Maitland, The Hunter Valley, New South Wales

  • @gadardun U CAN SEE MY FUCKING BROTHER STICKING HIS HEAD OUT THE WINDOW, 7 SECONDS INTO THE VIDEO AND THEN PUTTING HIS HEAD BACK IN.

AND I ALSO WAS THERE AT MAITLAND WITH FAMILY BOYFRIEND.

    OOOPS CAPS LOCK, =)

  • Hmm, cool, I wonder what speed those tings are pushing, it definatly has to be over 100Km\h (60Mph)

  • In this video I'm not 100% sure, although I would dare say we were moving at 100km/ph, the locomotives themselves are capable of more than that.

  • i wonder if i could race a plane

    anyway awsome vid

    GO STEAM

  • thats cool

  • That must have been great for the engineers

  • yea notch 8 is all ya can do though =/ lets see em stop now =)

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • PHENOMENAL TOO!!!

  • This year it will be only 3830 and the Tiger Moth Plane but this race will never be forgotting because there are two 38's racing down the mainline of Maitland.

  • Correct. This is due to 3801 having it's boiler and firebox overhauled at the present.

  • i have never even took a train before

  • I think we as the British should be made the masters of trains. Out of the 3 types of loco (Steam, Diesel and Electric) We Hold The Record In Two! Steam (LNER Mallard) and Diesel (BR HST 125) And The French Have One. (TGV) So I Think We Make The Best. :P

  • Personally was never a fan of British locos (apart from the Mallard) but I'll take my 38 class over that any day. Forget the records, these things are work horses and 3801 is a legend. Full respect to your locomotives though, British did have some clever designs. Everyone is entitled for an opinion.

  • True true I have seen the 3801 pass through campbelltown station and she is a spectacular loco, the pretties I have ever seen..I often use to hear her sunday morning as she pulled into the station and I will never forget the sound of her whistle.

  • I don't know why, but it was strangely addicting....

  • wow great clip ..so exciting..thanks!!..the 38 is one of the best looking locos in the world

  • So, who won?

  • LokDave u suck, really. The 3801 and 3830 are fast, beautiful engines. You just jeoulous because their better than your locos.

  • I'm afraid most German locos, though very capable, are very ugly.

  • @LokDave haha the only thing that germany gave to the world was H!tler... ps sorry but its true... So dont pick on our trains & for the 3801 its a beauty for a Steam Engine & is a Legend in Steam.

  • 3801 may not be the fastest steam engine but one of the best steam engines in Australia and NSW.

  • Great to see 3801 still very capable after all these years, fond memories from 1970/71 at Cardiff Loco works near Newcastle..

  • were they actually racing?

  • The two locos race against the TIGER MOTH aircraft, they make a bit of show of it between themselves, I don't think the loco vs loco was a real race but none the less it a fun run. They still belt their guts out.

  • Sorry about the shakes. The carriages were bumping around a bit and I couldn't keep my hand still for the whole thing.

  • Hey, it's not often easy to hold a camera steady on a fast moving train but well done for your efforts. Amazing footage there; bet the coal and water consumption was quite something!
