i still remember the day when i wass stoned...and i was completely taken away by the synth sounding thing that kicked in at 4:10...one of the best musical moments in my life
do any of you really think this is a happy sound? im not hating on it, its fuckin real good, but its 100% depressing and angry, dark, and you got all these other bands thinkin there death like korn, slipknot, you know all tho's that represent it except from , christian death with rozz williams, he also hung himself
i hate to think like this but when i listen to this i feel like hanging myself, its pure dead this whole album even the whole of JD songs, these no way this can be classed as happy indie music,id call this 'death' 'dead' 'coffin' 'dark' haunted' 'ghost fucking ride' ...this is one of my favourite albums i hardly get to listen to it, because its quite depressive and im quite a depressive person
@dy30n Joy Division's music was like that for me too back in the day. (late '80's) It's very deep, dark, and disturbing music and it doesn't pull any punches. I remember thinking that maybe I shouldn't be listening to it ever again, but it was so intriguing and painfully honest that I just had to listen to more. It's like an exploration into the dark, hidden part of the psyche that scares the shit out of normal consciousness.
@asshat72 I'll go with that, I remember getting hooked on this stuff as a youngster, bit too much to handle then, now its fully appreciated as ive got older.
I think one aspect of Curtis that often gets ignored (I guess that's my generation's "one track per artist is all you need to know what they're about" thing) is how well he did anger. I've heard Corey Taylor scream with less rage than Curtis' bellows at the climax.
@LondonDada Soon enough the streets will be filled with the blood of the rich, limp wrist Nazi overlords that run this creaking, terribly oiled machine...and that is when we will bathe.
Pink Floyd is similar. Take in moderate doses every other day. Or else it gets just a tad too dark, and listening to dark stuff too often can screw you up. Moderation is key, that just proves how much power and influence these guys had/ still have.
@BassPr0digy the intro to this songs sounds like a Floyd one but I can't think of which. I can honestly listen to Floyd and Joy Division everyday or just all the time, I guess it depends on your mindset.
when you listen to the songs joy divison have written like this one its no suprise ian curtis killed himself. . .thank god he got to unleash his darkest emotions on a record, also fucking fantastic band instrument-wise.
I've just listened to this for the first time and I had to repeat it like 10 times. This is perhaps the most enjoyable, depressing music I've ever heard and I'm a big Heavy Metal fan...
@WolfgangVonPoserkila Same here. You just have to be open minded for also different kinds of music so you can confirm and find more depth in your taste of music.
@halfcabdisaster7 It's a bit of a shame that he went and offed himself, because now it's hard to see Joy Division as the experimental, full of life band that they were back in the day. You sort of can't not view them in the context of Ian's suicide.
@SirPwn4lot They were a diverse band, from Stooges style songs like Interzone to atmospheric jams like Disorder. I just wonder if Ian could have been a part of the New Order sound if he had lived, it was so different.
I found the original FACT10 vinyl at a garage sale for one dollar three years ago. This year I gave it to my best friend for his 40th birthday. We've listened to Joy Division for the last 25 years. He never knew I had it, he choked up and so did I.
This is such a rocking song, but like most of the songs on this album the production saps the energy out of the band's performance. I got into Joy Division through live recordings, hearing the Peel sessions and was so disappointed that the recorded versions were made so ambient and watered down. Hannet got it wrong!
@Toughguysdontdance12 I wouldn't say depressing, I would use suffocating. There's a great sense of tragedy in this song but it isn't hopeless, it's robust, it's angry. This is as metal as non-metal music get, truly crushing and unforgiving.
cuts right to the very core

Gotta love the menace in this song, the booming bass lines from Peter Hook taking over Sumner's guitar. As for the way the song ends its just epic.
Play this most mornings to get me charged up for the day !

@halfcabdisaster7 Personally I think New Order went TOO electronic. Joy Division's 1980 work was as electronic as I'd have liked them to have gone.
