  • cuts right to the very core

  • Weee!

  • sad man!

  • #whenwillitend

  • ominous tone. the Sabbath influence is here... really great

  • Gotta love the menace in this song, the booming bass lines from Peter Hook taking over Sumner's guitar. As for the way the song ends its just epic.

Play this most mornings to get me charged up for the day !

  • i still remember the day when i wass stoned...and i was completely taken away by the synth sounding thing that kicked in at 4:10...one of the best musical moments in my life

  • Shit..!!! I didn't know Roy Orbison was dead ???

  • the best of all my records, remind the gig in A'dam,in 1980,i was 19,great

  • TU POLSKA! PRZEJMUJEMY TEN KLIP!!!

  • do any of you really think this is a happy sound? im not hating on it, its fuckin real good, but its 100% depressing and angry, dark, and you got all these other bands thinkin there death like korn, slipknot, you know all tho's that represent it except from , christian death with rozz williams, he also hung himself

  • @dy30n Well Joy Division has that style. But I really like Joy Division.. So true those wannabes :D Joy Division is the original post punk band

  • i hate to think like this but when i listen to this i feel like hanging myself, its pure dead this whole album even the whole of JD songs, these no way this can be classed as happy indie music,id call this 'death' 'dead' 'coffin' 'dark' haunted' 'ghost fucking ride' ...this is one of my favourite albums i hardly get to listen to it, because its quite depressive and im quite a depressive person

  • @dy30n Joy Division's music was like that for me too back in the day. (late '80's) It's very deep, dark, and disturbing music and it doesn't pull any punches. I remember thinking that maybe I shouldn't be listening to it ever again, but it was so intriguing and painfully honest that I just had to listen to more. It's like an exploration into the dark, hidden part of the psyche that scares the shit out of normal consciousness.

  • @asshat72 I'll go with that, I remember getting hooked on this stuff as a youngster, bit too much to handle then, now its fully appreciated as ive got older.

  • I think one aspect of Curtis that often gets ignored (I guess that's my generation's "one track per artist is all you need to know what they're about" thing) is how well he did anger. I've heard Corey Taylor scream with less rage than Curtis' bellows at the climax.

  • @Trainspotter2480

u can buy the cd :)

  • And the normals wonder why I am non commercial.

  • " No room for the weak"

    " Where will it end"?

Not til we get the guts to take to the streets in protest against the beasts who rule us.

  • @LondonDada Soon enough the streets will be filled with the blood of the rich, limp wrist Nazi overlords that run this creaking, terribly oiled machine...and that is when we will bathe.

  • How is this 1979? Totally sounds like 90s. Dang!

  • When will it end?

  • you will not hear this on X Factor

  • @GriefTourist if i did id kill myself

  • @GriefTourist even if it was on it I still wouldnt hear it

  • @GriefTourist Hahaha!! If so, every X-Fucktor-teenager will be in shock!

  • I must be pretty screwed up because I always listen to Joy Division to get into a good mood haha

  • @TheDeadPlayers

It's everyone elses fault, not yours. Really!

  • I literally feel Ian's emotions in each of his songs. Especially this one.

  • I'm getting my fix...

  • Pink Floyd is similar. Take in moderate doses every other day. Or else it gets just a tad too dark, and listening to dark stuff too often can screw you up. Moderation is key, that just proves how much power and influence these guys had/ still have.

  • @BassPr0digy joy division and pink floyd screwed me up the first time i heard any of there music lol

  • @MetalDrummer776 Dude:O same here, they mess with my mind so much, got me thinking in a whole different way!

  • @BassPr0digy the intro to this songs sounds like a Floyd one but I can't think of which. I can honestly listen to Floyd and Joy Division everyday or just all the time, I guess it depends on your mindset.

  • cant find my comment thought I already answered but it reminds me of in the flesh the intro

  • @BassPr0digy Whenever I listen to PF or JD i start thinking in a whole other way and just makes everything go dark.

  • @distillery what does "PF" stand for?

  • @michaelgroscoe Pink Floyd.

  • 1979... sounds so fresh

  • @Elegia4 You forgot about the atmosphere of the song, that's also an essential thing when someone interpretates something.

  • Words can't describe how good this is. The perfect companion to depression. Nothing else comes close.

  • when you listen to the songs joy divison have written like this one its no suprise ian curtis killed himself. . .thank god he got to unleash his darkest emotions on a record, also fucking fantastic band instrument-wise.

  • Joy Division this band reminds of The Doors his voice very is similar to Jim Morrison. I love this band

  • OK, I'm convinced, the first real grunge band wasn't Nirvana, it was Joy Division

  • I've been really sad before but I couldn't imagine anything as dark as this.

  • Probably the most powerful song ever.

  • @yoyo3man steady cock

  • This breaks my heart.

  • I've just listened to this for the first time and I had to repeat it like 10 times. This is perhaps the most enjoyable, depressing music I've ever heard and I'm a big Heavy Metal fan...

  • @WolfgangVonPoserkila Same here. You just have to be open minded for also different kinds of music so you can confirm and find more depth in your taste of music.

  • Last Verse = Ian Curtis's finest recorded moment

  • withdrawl pain is hard it will do you right in so distorted and thin...distorted and thin

  • It baffles me how this song didn't make it on their Best Of CD.

  • And the bodies obtained, the bodies obtained, the bodies obtained.

  • 16 horsepower's version is also worth checking out!

  • this song destroys me

  • The reason this is so relentlessly dark is because we know Ian was really suffering inside.

  • The perfect song.

  • i'm glad no stupid fuck even dared to dislike this..(better shut my mouth)

  • @cordfluidnevoie you spoke too soon

  • so haunting !!!

  • this is the kind of music that plays during a zombie apocalypse

  • @ymechaie you must write or make movies bro

  • His voice...

  • les chants désespérés sont les chants les plus beaux,j'en connait d'immortels qui sont de purs sanglots.....

  • Ian was a tortured man.

  • @halfcabdisaster7 It's a bit of a shame that he went and offed himself, because now it's hard to see Joy Division as the experimental, full of life band that they were back in the day. You sort of can't not view them in the context of Ian's suicide.

  • @SirPwn4lot They were a diverse band, from Stooges style songs like Interzone to atmospheric jams like Disorder. I just wonder if Ian could have been a part of the New Order sound if he had lived, it was so different.

  • @halfcabdisaster7 Personally I think New Order went TOO electronic. Joy Division's 1980 work was as electronic as I'd have liked them to have gone.

  • @SirPwn4lot Maybe Ian would have kept them more rock based, I guess we'll never know.

  • Great song, but what hooked me was the devastating guitar break at songs end. That jam then this song was my indroduction to this great band.

  • my favourite intro ever , love this

  • I found the original FACT10 vinyl at a garage sale for one dollar three years ago. This year I gave it to my best friend for his 40th birthday. We've listened to Joy Division for the last 25 years. He never knew I had it, he choked up and so did I.

  • simply one of the greatest tracks recorded by anyone!

  • I guess you were right when we talked in the heat

there's no room for the weak

    no room for the weak

  • The origins of gothic rock is right here.. <3

  • So intense...

  • Where will it end?

  • no, but seriously... WHERE WILL IT END?

  • powerful stuff

  • I love the Joy Division can make me feel shit.

Its the same as some band making me feel great.

    Thats power....!

  • where will it end

    4:41

  • These are your friends, from childhood, through youth

Who goaded you on, demanded more proof

Withdrawal pain is hard - it can do you right in

So distorted and thin, distorted and thin

  • love joy d. and unknown pleasures is my fav album of all time

ian curtis, u legend, see u on the other side

  • @Preliminimal you're tripping face, man

  • What a cool song. Very raw.

  • i really want to believe in reencarnation! and I hope he is in his twenties

  • This is such a rocking song, but like most of the songs on this album the production saps the energy out of the band's performance. I got into Joy Division through live recordings, hearing the Peel sessions and was so disappointed that the recorded versions were made so ambient and watered down. Hannet got it wrong!

  • best song to listen to if comtempting suicide

  • like powdered glass rubbed into a screaming soul.....a diamond drill to the emotions.

  • Absolutely depressing... Hopeless, sad, dark... But hey, beautiful too...

  • @Toughguysdontdance12 Really? Makes me wanna rock out

  • @Toughguysdontdance12 I wouldn't say depressing, I would use suffocating. There's a great sense of tragedy in this song but it isn't hopeless, it's robust, it's angry. This is as metal as non-metal music get, truly crushing and unforgiving.

  • @findingphunc thats a nice way to put it actually, its depressive and feels hopeless but its in an angry way, theres real rage and emotion aswell.

  • @johnnyXsniper ....comme de subir quelque chose d'inéluctable....

  • @dominique6259 thats piss in the pool to me son

  • pure beauty

  • brilliant....simply brilliant!

  • ruthless.....

  • hell yea
