the use of the sustain pedal will really make my pieces sound smooth... i just need to learn when and how to utilize it in my covers.

thanks so much for putting this video up.

  • i would love a piano like that, nothing fancy just something in tune that is fairly cheap haha.. any suggestions?

  • just common sence really!!

  • wow this was really helpful!

Let me know what you think of my video!

    Just imporvising on the piano

  • Thanks for the help.

Now I need to get a pedal.

  • cool! I received the sustain pedal for my keyboard for christmas and I'm trying to learn how to use it right now (unfortunately I never had any piano lesson..)So its use is not so strict, right?

  • No, unless the song requests it. Then, you can choose whether you want it or not.

  • if a song tells u to use it u prolly should. but most songs don't tell u where to use it and u have to figure that out urself. Many songs the pedal is used throughout and u just lift it in between phrases, tho sum songs u son't want to use it at all, if there are a lot of staccato notes

  • thanks everybody, with practice I'm learning!;)

  • After the sustain pedal is pressed, all keys, that have not up, and keys newly pressed, sound together until the pedal is freed.

That helps how to play the sustain pedal.

  • these vids are pretty good for beginner like me ^^

  • Yea, I just started learning to play the piano 2 weeks ago.. I just started using the peddle.. but I guess it just takes practice..

  • Wrong! You do NOT necessarily put the pedal down AFTER the note! The purpose of the sustain pedal is not merely to prolong a given chord. Using the sustain pedal "opens up" the piano, by allowing all the strings to resonate, which results in a much different tone. If you play a chord and then pedal, the initial sound will lack that tone. This is not to say that there aren't any situations in which you could properly apply the pedal after hitting a note.
