As well as a full mental evaluation by psychiatric staff. Unfortunately when you're in a building surrounded by 1,000 convicted criminals, somebody will eventually try to run it, and the safety of the inmate himself, any possible cellmates, and any Correctional staff involved has to come first and foremost. And I would love to be a 'Glorified babysitter' making '74,000 a year with overtime'. Come in and take a tour of any Correctional Institution some time. It's not all stabbings and rape.
Please understand that a cell extraction is the very last possible option when confronting an unruly inmate. Unfortunately, they don't always come to the door and cuff up when you tell them to, and occasionally they get a little stupid when faced with a situation that they know they can't run. Cell extractions normally end with no injuries besides some watery eyes from the OC, and at least in the state of Florida, a full physical medical check is required after any and all uses of force.
You need to STFU and quit defending these pieces of shit, we C/O's don't get paid enough to get spit on, gassed, etc. We have a use of force policy, everything we do is strictly by the book, sure some of us would rather use different tactics, but that's not the way it works. This situation actually happened at my prison and there is no other option but to enter the cell and remove the inmate for his safety. at our prison we have to go through a certain order of steps of force before we can enter the cell. we cant just mobilize a team and go in. the old timers say thats how it used to be but with all these pro-inmate lawyers out there he can say, "I was ready to comply and then they came in and kicked the shit out of me anyway." so the pepper spray gives them one last chance to comply with the orders. most of the guys who get sprayed cuff up afterwards anyway.
Why gas them. Just let them be. Thing is that is is really loud and a real mess in there sometimes. One person is not so bad but when you have all of them doing this shit, it gets really nasty. It really is noisy in prison.
It's for the prisoners own welfare and safety, if the i/m injures himself or dies while in your custody, and you did not take measures to prevent it, say goodbye to your career, and possibly be prosecuted and serve time yourself, and sued by the i/m's family. Everything we do is for the safety and security of the institution, public, and prisoner, our personal safety is almost secondary.
It all boils down to the U.S Constitution #8 amendment

We have to pay our bills. I mean I would rather be out here but they do have a lot of rights when it comes right down to it. Where do you work? Or do you work at a prison?

I REALLY didn't do it, but I know of plenty of officers that say that kkind of shit all the time. All it take sometimes is a bogus allegation.

i train pitbulls for cell extractions and i havent had a problem gettin them out not one bit. i wont mention the city or state but the prisoners run out the cell when they hear that im on my way wit "warlord" u should see them scatter like roaches & comply wit out harm. warlord loves i mean loves when we headed in the jail and he see's the inmates its like a crackhead scored on a mountain the size of scarfaces. he gets amp and crazy but its all just training.... until we gotta make an example...

Why endanger yourselves? Just let them rot in their cells in their own mess...or gas them. Give me a good reason of why not. I don't understand why you guys go through this.

It aint that easy. What if the guy rips apart his mattress and is threatening to shove the stuffing down his throat? Do you sit and watch him choke? This situation actually happened at my prison and there is no other option but to enter the cell and remove the inmate for his safety. Or if he's donkey-kicking his door causing a disruption in the entire unit? It doesnt take much to set a unit off and then you've got 20 guys going crazy when you couldve solved the problem right away.

You'r right. When a lot go off at once they flood the whole place and cause all kinds of shit. I don't get why they do it either except for the fact they are in IMU & have nothing better to do. The thing I don't get is why the pepper spray? Why not just go in and get him. Just babbling.

at our prison we have to go through a certain order of steps of force before we can enter the cell. we cant just mobilize a team and go in. the old timers say thats how it used to be but with all these pro-inmate lawyers out there he can say, "I was ready to comply and then they came in and kicked the shit out of me anyway." so the pepper spray gives them one last chance to comply with the orders. most of the guys who get sprayed cuff up afterwards anyway.

What is 'our' prison? I get the lawsuits but they are starting to become pretty petty and the US Supreme Courts are putting a stop to a lot of that.

Why gas them. Just let them be. Thing is that is is really loud and a real mess in there sometimes. One person is not so bad but when you have all of them doing this shit, it gets really nasty. It really is noisy in prison.

It's for the prisoners own welfare and safety, if the i/m injures himself or dies while in your custody, and you did not take measures to prevent it, say goodbye to your career, and possibly be prosecuted and serve time yourself, and sued by the i/m's family. Everything we do is for the safety and security of the institution, public, and prisoner, our personal safety is almost secondary.
It all boils down to the U.S Constitution #8 amendment
(cruel and unusual punishment.)
