  • Thank you Gary Kurtz for your contributions to the best 2 movies of the saga, IV and V.

  • Wait guys did you know Darth Vader is Luke's Father?!?!?1 OMG I was totally shocked! Andddd! He's Annakin from the Sequels!?!?!?!

  • Born in `81. didnt see this till `98 stangely. i saw jedi in about 1990, thouhg.

  • Hey dudes I heard George he is gonna make da original trilogy but in da style of Avatar n with better actors, he is determnined to break avatars record n since he hates the stupid old looking trilogy anyway he is gonna redo it with cool 3D CGI, OMG its gonna be soooooooooo cool! RaSpex.

  • @imdacoolestguy Jesus... it was such a cool movie and Lucas keeps making it worse and worse. He should just stop f ing with it and let it be... like when he added scenes to the original star wars that weren't there before llike when solo talks to jabba before they leave tatooine; it was totally uneccesary and just ruins the integrity of the movie. So in other words, I disagree with what

  • @imdacoolestguy your saying, I think he'll ruin the whole series if he does that. Lucas is a one hit wonder. take a look at some of his other movies like "Howard the Duck". not too impressive. (yes, I know, american graffiti, but you get my point). Maybe if he does make these new movies, he should have spielburg direct them lol

  • @Elitecataphract I like Transformers. RaSpex

  • This is not Star Wars Episode V, this is just "The Empire Strikes Back"

    Fuck the prequels.

  • "The force is with you, young Skywalker. But, you are not a jedi yet." Still gives me chills! : )

  • This is my number one favorite Star Wars movie. It reveals a dreadful secret, it takes a darker turn, the music became much more emotional, and there is a puppet teaching Luke about the ways of the Force.

  • This is the second star wars movie, not the fifth.

  • @redneckvideogamer Never from their theater release order, the star wars movies you will number; but always use, their Episode number, you will.

And this, is Star Wars Episode V : The Empire Strikes Back.

  • @DontWantAHandle No. What I'm saying is the prequels were crap, so they don't really count as anything. So to me, and all true star wars fans, this will always be the second star wars movie.

  • @redneckvideogamer No. True star Wars fans are the ones who realize the genius behind ALL 6 movies. Even the prequels (which by the way were always part of George Lucas's plan).

  • @TheRuss70 "which by the way were always part of George Lucas's playn"

I know that my friend, and I waited years to go see them when they came out, and I have never been so disappointed in a set of movies in my life. The first one was terrible, the second one was a little better and the last prequel was half decent, but even it was a far cry from the original trilogy.

  • @redneckvideogamer They were just different. They focused on different characters and were meant to tell another story. To understand the makings of Darth Vader. I honestly dont understand where everyones hatred comes from for these movies. I think the entire series was simply brilliant. But I suppose its just another opinion.

  • @TheRuss70 i have to agree with you. i think 1 2 and 3 were pretty good. maybe thats just because i was born when they were being made.

  • The best film of the entire Saga right here. And I think I am right when I say that this specific trailer is the first time any body would have heard "The Imperial March" (Darth Vader's Theme) , the most iconic Bad Ass theme of them all.

  • IMPERIAL TROOPS HAVE ENTERED THE BASE!!!

  • Spoiler alert: Darth Vader is Lukes father... nooooooooooo!!!!!!

  • @txmike9i5 I Found out that like...I dont know 30 years ago....

  • STAR WARS is GOD!!! Why did anyone let Lucas make the prequels? They shud re-release it some day without re-mastering it. In that way they can preserve the nostalgia of STAR WARS.

  • @varaprad You answered your own question. That is why could make them.

  • Ah, yes! This is from when George Lucas still had writing skills...and Leigh Brackett. LOL. Oh, and that Kasdan guy, too.

  • Comparing the original trilogy to the new one is like comparing the Beatles to Justin Timberlake.........ya know 'cause the Beatles were great musicians and Justin Timberlake sucks. Ya see?

  • Billy Dee Williams was a very sexy man back in the day! I forgot about that.

What blows my mind is that the single most memorable character from this movie, Yoda, isn't even in the trailer at all!

Nowadays everyone says that Empire Strikes Back was the best of those movies, but at the time people didn't understand it. The dark themes seemed so very different, people were let down by the ending, and most people, when they heard Darth Vader was Luke's father, assumed he was lying.

  • @CristinaFernandez Yoda's probably not in the trailer, as the Dagobah scenes were the last thing filmed.

  • @SciFiAssasin There's another reason; Yoda was to be a supprise for the viewer, who watching it for the first time, and like Luke himself, surely expected Yoda to look like a "great warrior." That is also the reason why he appears on very few Empire posters.

  • I always wanted to be the one who saved Leia ;-))

  • This is amazingly paced. If I saw this in a theatre right now I would shit my pants even though Ive seent his movie a million times. And its better without the voice over because the asshole calls Lando "Landow".

And the 6 "people" who thumbed this down are nerf-hearding douchebags.

  • I saw the sneaker they used as an asteroid! Did they take that out in the special edition?

  • Hope not hop.

Sorry lookback, misread, Glad Im not the only one who feels this way--thanks.

  • @lookbacktime? this what?

@Brrdan--it was a puppet in Ep I on release, but the DVD release it was replaced in some versions with the CG Yoda. The puppet in EP I sucked--it didn't look like the classic TESB and ROTJ Yoda that was sculpted. In my opinion that original puppet from the OT was the best version ever--sure it didnt hope around like crazy in a saber fight, but something about CG always looks too neat and artifical to me vs. sculpted/makeup effects. Hey, its just my opinion.

  • ha! i see a mess up in this when you see the little snippet or luke and vader fighting after the imperial probe droid explodes, you see that their lightsabers weren't lit up. the blades were just white sticks

  • best movier EVER!!!

  • No voice over? I distinctly heard Chewbacca's voice. But my babel fish isn't working. What did he say?

  • @hapspir I LOL'd

  • the old star wars movies are better than the new ones.they were hard to made at that moment and this is why are the best.

  • Also, I think Frank Oz's puppet yoda is Epi V is superior ot any of the CG crap in episodes I-III. The feeling he projected, esp. when he teaches the Luke about faith in moving the X-Wing from the swamp, it my favorite part of the whole series, hands down.

  • @sevilami

its a puppet in ep. 1

  • @sevilami -- This.

  • @sevilami

    well said son

  • TESB is THE best movie of all 6 movies. Irvin Kershner should have directed all six movies and we wouldnt have had the tragedy of epi. VI and I-III. Oh well, Ill have to wait for the remake....

  • Star Wars blows

  • @HarryPotter87 u blow harry potthead

  • @HarryPotter87 gay harry potthead!

  • When STAR WARS had menacing villans and heroes ... before George Lucas went all Jim Henson Muppet Show on us. - Doc

  • @mikewat001

You do know that Yoda was one of those Jim Henson puppets you're refering to.

  • such a shame George Lucas didn't adopt the same policy with episodes 1,2, and 3, and get someone else to make the movies! they could have been as good as this corker!

  • 2 right the last ones were dreadfull

  • My favorite of all the Star Wars films.

  • They pretty much just showed you the whole movie.

  • i think i am the orangputeh too

  • Best Stars Wars movie

  • at 0:10 Darth Vader with blue lightsaber?

  • Stuff was not done yet. The effects were mostly done but lasers and light sabers were not.

  • actually what you saw was the unedited blade. if you look at the episode four trailer you might notice that they didn't edit the lightsabers for the trailers. kind of wierd.

  • I think kfizz is right, the lightsaber SFX were not there.

  • The greatest sci-fi film ever. One of my favorites.

  • still the best Star Wars

  • From 1:20 to 1:55 what is he official name of the song played?

  • It's called just Finale/End Credits

  • Comment removed

  • This movie has the biggest movie twist ever.

  • @cyresthevirus123 What are you referring to?

  • kickass trailer, empire was probably my favorite star wars movie. was this like a teaser trailer?

  • look at 1:25 wtf is c3po doing? removing a sticker from a door?

-Oh dear, a sticker from the empire.I shall remove it!

  • I'm glad you pointed that out else I'd have missed it. That's a scene that didn't make the final cut. It's in the Rebel base on Hoth just after the Imperial troops have entered. The sticker was a warning to keep out of a room where the Rebels had imprisoned some Hoth Wampas (the creature that captures Luke at the start). C3-PO removes it hoping some Snow Troopers will enter and get mauled.

  • As a matter of fact, the moment leading up to it is still in the film. As Han and Leia are running to the Falcon, Han actually throws a glimpse at the door and the sticker. 3PO is running to catch up, and the shot cuts away just as he reaches the door. Right after that, he would have stopped and torn the sticker off, perhaps explaining why he was so far behind everyone else.

  • lol

  • The best star wars film ever.

If you take the quick and easy path you will become an agent of evil. Who said that to you George Lucas.

  • is fabulose

  • I was breastfed on the Force.

  • DUDE!

    i can't wait!

holy crap it seems so cool. i wonder if it will be any good

  • This is still my favorite trailer of ALL time....of any movie.

  • I Eat, Sleep, and Shit Star Wars.

  • hmmmm...the person who made this video did not do a very good job. easily better than the episode IV trailer, though. and yes, it is VERY similar to indiana jones (similar music, harrison ford, the "ive got a bad feeling about this line" that happens everywhere). and yes, this is just a good time at the movies, a plain adventure/love story with action, good action, and memorable writing. i dont like the new series very much because it doesnt really share any of these qualities.

  • what a thrilling trailer

  • easily the best Star Wars movie experience of all time. but let us not discount others in the series. Return of the Jedi has the cliffhanger quality of the old movies which inspired Star Wars in the first place. Kind of similiar to how Indiana Jones films can be all over the place in one movie. Clone Wars was good too for those with an open enough mind.

  • The scene at 1:25 is a deleted scene. Has anyone ever seen it?

  • It was a scene when 3PO ripped off a warning sign because there were Wampas inside. Apparently some stormtroopers went inside and got ripped apart during the ground assult

That would have been interesting!! Obviously Lucas scrapped it probably due to time and pace.

  • i love this movie sooooo much, i had an AT-AT tattooed on my left side!

  • managed to get on and post while your parents weren't home, huh?

  • @Sevverusxxx Fuck you good sir.fuck you...

  • The Empire Strikes Back. This movie is an all time classic. A New Hope and The Return of the Jedi are amazing and special movies, but this is up there among the greatest movies ever made!  As for the other three hmmm... well. As that animated movie it was {four letter word not found}

  • i think its a tie for the great sci fi movie of all time between empire, blade runner, and alien. all 3 of these movies were made within 3 year of each other. between 79 and 82 that was the pinnacle of sci fi movies. then it all devolved into cartoonish crap.

  • this is by far the best of the 6 movies

  • I agree!

  • HELL YEAH!

    Atte: Juan Ramón Velázquez Mora.

  • I still say there are only three real movies, and three multi-hour special effects and bad acting laden craptavaganzas (soon to be followed by a fourth!)

  • yeah i wish all the movies had this cinematography and tone. the dialogue is spare. it is mostly images and music. ep 4 is ok. return of the jedi has a few good parts. the rest are shit and this is perfection.

  • @sandwichx it is my FAVORITE of the saga, along with REVENGE OF THE SITH, which was the best of the prequels and the whole saga, but this was right up there, and is the best of the original........................

  • @sandwichx i know

  • join me!

  • Father?

  • There's a movie series called star wars? How come i never heard of it? Guess i should get off the moisture farm on tatooine more often.

  • I lol'd.

  • "Guess i should get off the moisture farm on tatooine more often."

But now is when we need you most!

  • He can't stay here forever, most of his friends have gone. It means so much to him.

  • Gromit's just not a farmer, JJuran. He's got too much of his father in him. Or is that what you're afraid of?

  • This george lucas premonition that moisture farms will be needed to global warming.

  • If global warming is real you mean? Yeah "global warming" is why it snows in FUCKING APRIL

  • so you're saying global warming is real because it snows in April?

    You just contradicted yourself, friendo

  • No my friend. Im saying it ISNT real because it snows in april

  • You are stupid.

  • @Gromitdog1 you just kiddin' right? LOL!!!

  • @Gromitdog1 you need to get off your mom's dick too!

  • i love the Vader breath sound echo at the end......sawpah sawpah, saaaaaa !!!!!!!

  • Felt like stepping back in time there.

The best movie of all time!

  • Definitely. I was just watching it, and I enjoyed every bit of it, even after a billion times. Star Wars ep. V: The Empire Strikes Back was great every time I watched it just like ep. IV. If I could only watch 1 movie forever, I'd choose this. It never gets old.

  • Fuck yeah!

  • this is the best of all the films

  • Thanks for posting some great and hard to find StarWars footage. I was a baby when this stuff came out and now my son is playing StarWars Lego2. Best EVER movies because it passes down generations.

  • This is probably one of the best trailers ever made. I still remember... It was 1980 and all the fans were waiting for "The new chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga". When I first saw this trailer I thought: My God, Darth Vader really survived! Who the hell is that African American (Lando Calrissian)? And Jesus, is Luke really going to die at the end of this movie? Thanks for putting it on Youtube!

  • Greatest movie ever made, greatest sequel to a great movie (Star Wars), greatest score (thanks to John Williams), greatest sci-fi, and also, the greatest trailer. No voice-over, just the clips speaking for themselves.

  • Here is the bottom line! There is Star Wars and there is everything else! Vader is Star Wars therefore there is Vader and there is everything else! All Hail Lord Vader!

  • The main reason this trailer is really beautiful is John Williams' wonderful score!

  • This is a real time capsule! I saw this trailer premire 1979 and drove me crazy until May 25th the following year. This was the best trailer for that time.

No VHS, no DVD... NADA... we had to tough it out in thise days. Waiting three frickin years beween the movies.....

  • Which video is this trailer from? do U know?

  • Whoops i thought my first comment didnt go through.

  • Had to be awesome to be alive in the days when these movies hit the theater doing the late 70s early 80 i would had loved to kick back with some popcorn and a coke and watch this awesome ass movie best one out of the original series other than return of the jedi.

  • That was a awesome trailer from back in the day i envy people who were old enough to see the original trilogy in the late 70s early 80s cause i couldnt imagine how awesome it had to be just to kick back with some popcorn and a coke and watch this in the theater.

  • Hey duz anyone know where i can get this versian of the "star wars Imperial March" song ? ? ? NOTICE its different than the normal darth vader march. WHERE HOW ???

  • I have an ex girl friend I want to put in carbon-freeze!

  • Best film ever

This trailer from 1980 - you wont see a film trailer that gets you like this does - wooooooooo!!

  • OMG If I'd never seen a SW film - I'd be BLOWN away by this trlr.

  • Star Wars fans and lovers of 3D animation... please check out DROID RAGE by one of my new heroes Ken Dunn here on You Tube. Ken is an amazing one man 3D animation studio. He has modeled and textured every prop character and set himself, lighted each scene, animated the shots, even wrote the script, performed the speaking parts and composed the musical score! If you want to see what one person can do with a little talent and a lot of free time (and a touch of obsession), check it out!

  • I can't believe some people find these comments amusing, annoying is more like it...

  • yeah srry about that

  • omg, you f'n techno geeks! reading this reminds me of the battles in clerks and clerks 2 over the same shit. and just to put my 2 cents in...yes the originals rock and the "1st 2"episodes kinda sucked!

  • attack of the clones?? WHATS THAT??! OH YEAH THAT MOVIE SUCKED by the way....the worse of star wars movies...in my oppinion...& i also agree w/ {pray4asia} that person is heads up* in my book* but dont get me wrong i like all the other *star wars* movies

  • jimmykenobi...you're a moron...the vision was lost with the new. You can never appreciate the present unless you can truly appreciate the past. If you don't learn from it you will repeat it...the original trilogy IS star wars...the new stuff is CGI.

  • defienitly the star wars most PATHETIC movie. Go watch attack of the clones that is STARWARS, not this old ridicolous stuff

  • I think you got it the other way aorund.Attack of the clones looks like a star trek movie.Anyways the prequels were just plain bad. They are simply NOT star wars.

  • there are only a few star wars movies that are better than the worst of star trek movies. theres more to enjoy in star trek anyways.

  • yeah right

  • it all depends on personal opinion. you could argue and point fingers all day about which is better and which is worse when they are both clearly great series. i am a extremely large star trek fan who loves star wars as well.

  • Again saying that they are both great is also personal opinion is it not...

  • yeah, but its better than bashing one or the other in a pointless arguement that rages on for hours. its just dumb to do that in my opinion.

  • @jimmykenobi

your deluded this is star wars the original magic trilogy the new films are pure pish you need your eyes testing you twat.

  • I still remember the thrill of seeing Han in a parka shooting that probe droid when I saw this in theaters. "Cool, they're going to a snow planet!" Notice in this trailer they didn't have to say a thing, just show all the action.

  • I remeMber seeing this trailer for the film "Kramer vs Kramer" in late 1979 when I was 11 years old and thought..."OH MY GOD... Part 2 of STAR WARS" AND COULD NOT WAIT TO SEE THE FILM. Still is the greatest SW film along with Episode IV.

  • Cool! It's the one with C-350 ripping off the warning sign from the door on Hoth base. That whole sequence was removed from the movie (and not even put in the Special Ed.) so that scene is one of the only ones we've ever gotten to see!

  • FYI to all: that's at 1:24

  • Cool! Thank you.

  • Cool.
